@lewiskyle11 16 year olds in the UK tend to do GCSE exams, often to get into do a variety of courses between the age of 16-19, or to go to work. To get her you have to pass a number of GCSEs and the gradings go A*ABCDEFGU - DEFG and U are fail grades. Some people claim the pass grades are A*-G but this is wrong, a course will often ask for a number of pass grades A*-C. Oli did very well and passed 12 GCSE A*-C. Sorry if you wanted Oli to answer this for you! ;)

@mrkosilathi A "D" grade is not a pass. I've worked in further and higher education and the overwhelming majority of colleges and universities will only count grades "C" and above as passes. In many exam levels (higher, Intermediate etc) a D grade is far too low to be considered passable, which is why the pass grade has been accepted to be the "C". There are a small number of FE institutions which will take D's for some vocational qualifications but absolutely not for "A" level courses.
