I think it's just frustration, really. GW takes forever to get anything done, so you wind up with half the factions and the other half using old rules. Then Privateer comes along with a system that not only updates all the factions at once, but makes a completely separate game compatible with the first one.
GW puts out a great product, but their 40k rules are antiquated compared to others like Warma-hordes. Not to mention GW keeps upping their prices every year (but hey that's the cost of business right?)
Its not that people hate GW as a whole its just people hate what GW have become. IE an overcharging polyurethane turd. Oh and plus their paints suck balls. Vallejo or Reaper all the way.

Privateer press seem to care more about the customers and creating quality
products. And their minis don't cost as much in regards to game size which is a plus point for a lot of hobbyists for an equally if not "better" game.

Don't get me wrong, I like GW...I play their games all the time. But Privateer Press is BY FAR superior.
I collect Warmachine figures aswell as GW figures. I find the quality of the figures is much better from GW, as they produce more plastic models, which lend themselves to conversion much easier, so you can 'make the model your own'. When I said that, I only mean I prefer GW's games to PP games, however Warmachine is enjoyable aswell.
I like both PP and GW equally fun-wise, but as for game rules(simple to learn and very balanced) and minature cost, PP is a clear winner.

The paints are better, the lore is better, the models are easier to assemble, they look far cooler. I could go on all day, PP i superior.
