@Haggisman0 its like that for a reason. in old bands the bass player always stood back by the drums since theyre the two main instruments in keeping tempo. you see this in a lot of Ska bands now a days though.
my god...simply fantastic. Set Up - one of their best songs in my opinion plus this is the best live version of it I've ever seen. Hope it's like this if I ever get a chance to see them in concert...omg...
also, another reason I like this version is because in the other live ones I have seen the beginning from 4:50-4:57 is focused on the guitar solo. In all the other ones that part is always drowned out by like Dan playing right through and stealing applause lol.
The horns sound absolutely ugly on the set up. I blame Tyler. There's other vids of this show, and you can clearly single out Tyler as the shitty sounding trumpet.
Actually, the horns have no editing and really no acoustics in this video. Personally, the guitar sounds shitty as well. And this was Tyler's first show as their new trumpet player. This was right after they released Cheer Up and right after they fired Tavis.
Nah, Tavis was brought in during the recording of Cheer Up! in 2002, because he played on two tracks. This was filmed in 2003, at Carlos de la Garza's last show.
I am pretty certain that Tyler has no credits on any of the albums. He is only credited on this DVD and Live shows from 2001-2004. He was terrible anyway and I am glad he is gone.
2001 was before Cheer Up! was released. Both he and Tavis are credited as "additional musicians" in the Cheer Up! notes. Along with - fun fact - their current drummer, Ryland Steen.
Well, I got the info for when Tyler was hired from there, but I actually own Cheer Up!. Another fun fact, I wrote the personnel section for the Turn the Radio Off article upon buying the album, wanting it to match Cheer Up!'s personnel section.
i think it sounds pretty good. they're probably just tired so they're singing a little off. plus the crowd is CRAP so i wouldn't be very excited to be playing in front of them anyways
If it ain't broke, don't fix it. Aaron's been playing his Gordon Smith since 2006 or so, and though it's not really meant to be his primary live guitar, it somehow ends up being so.
But it's a great-sounding guitar, and I hope he sticks with it. Scott found a good one for him early on, I hope Aaron's finally found his perfect one.
Why did you put the tag during Aaron and Scott's kick ass guitar solos?! D: That's the best part! >_<

Yeah, truly. I've only seen them once, unfortunately, but it's VERY good live, this song especially.

...'cause the Les Paul sounded like shit.

he ended up selling the Les Paul. Glad I bought the DVD that has him playing the GS.
albythunder 2 years ago
Yeah, and he plays it on the new one too.
And I love how not too long after I post this, I go see Reel Big Fish, and Scott's now playing a Fender Jazzmaster instead of his Custom Tele. >_>
