Knock it off Don! You're like me and too hard on yourself. I enjoyed your performance and thank you for sharing the video. It helped make my evening and I wish we were neighbors 'cause I've got a nice front porch that needs some guitar pickers... especially those who pick on Townes! :-)
Real good. Must have felt great performing. I'm knew and badly want to learn this. What's the pattern on the high strings? Any help would be much appreciated
Great, the tone of your guitar and your voice mesh perfectly--I am from the south, but I am living in South America right now--makes me think of home.
Townes was a great joice he was one of my inspirrations as well. We must plant some seeds before we leave this world and go to meat the great spirit we all have a part. With music give many gifts we help to people, forget our pain, we make them smile, are cry, we bring, and we awaken emotions. Its a good thing so play on my brother.
Auntie Kaiwi used to tell me when I had stage fright to just remember my talent is a gift and that I should be humble and thankful for the privilege to entertain people, Not every body can. Somehow it made sense so I never worried about it again.Best wishes...
Thanks Thomas, a good thought. We started Sunday Morning Open Mic Breakfast show at Farmt to Family and after everyone went on I did a couple of songs and felt better than in April. I really enjoy it a lot, and hearing my own voice coming back from the trees that surround that stage area really sounds good and I found myself relaxing into it a bit more. I will keep going up every open mic, and I will remember what you have said, humble, thankful, and privileged .. . Don
Very very nice Don, Glad to see you with a video of you playing. I wish I had the footage to go along with your comment before you started playing. ;o) I'm glad Rainah pushed you too. Hey, I can run the board for you and you can play a set next month, well not next month but the month after that :o)
Thank you Christine. I actually enjoy watching it. It makes me want to play more. Being on stage is a good thing for the spirit, being able express in the midst of the heart pounding. I am looking forward to when I can be totally relaxed. I guess I will have to get back up on stage to become okay with it. Everybody else seems okay on stage. . . Thanks for getting the vedio and doing the syc with the board. Don
Hi Jane, Well it was fun being on the stage and maybe it won't be so rare by next year. We are doing a Sunday Morning Open Mic Breakfast Show each month now.
At ToobStock I realized how that morning show extended, and gave a proper ending, to the festival feeling. So we are going to keep it going. So I will have more opportunities to do a song and if my darn heart would stop pounding I imagine my hands would do what they are supposed to do and I could even breath. But it was fun. Don
Hi there Annie, I am glad that I did do a song and I envey all of you singers that are so relaxed on stage. What a good time you must be having. Being on stage and other special moments from that weekend have made that show a place in time that I will always be able to enjoy in my memories. It's like you said a few times . . . a dream . . . and thank you Annie for your warm comment. Don
Ahhhhh Leah thank you . . . I am looking forward to being as comfortable on stage as all of you were. I really would like to get set up to put some videos on youtube. I don't have any originals that I would play, but I know a lot of songs that aren't done much. Music is so much fun. We are opening the venue up on Sundays with an open mic breakfast show. I think it will be good for pickers and singers to be able to get on stage. They get a recording too; look forward to seeing you again. Don
Well this is my second attempt to post a comment, I hope it works just once, i don't want to repeat myself, Anyway that was way cool, Don. It is good to see you up there maybe i'll try it some Sunday.
It was fun Rainah, thank for the push. I probably wouldn't have even thought of it if you hadn't encouraged me to go up, and thank you for your comment too. When I watched the video I could see how much stage fright I was experiencing, but nobody else seemed to notice it. Quite a rush, lots of energy. Hey, if we got used to it we would probably hog the stage. LOL Don
I haven't quite got the hang of it yet but, i guess i'll get it together. Thank you so much for all that you do. You are so talented with the videos. You just get better and better!
Hi Don, I'll have to admit I never heard this one before but I sure like it and sure he's the Master of poetry.I'm lookin'forward to hear more of you, Thanks again.
Jacques if I ever get set up with a camera and what ever program it takes to get the video on line I will be sure to do that one. You will like it. I feel kind of inspired now. Don
I have watched a lot of your videos and your very big compliment means alot to me Jacques. I used to play a lot of Townes songs that aren't played much. I think I'll get the words out pick on a few. "The Birds were talking all at once and the old man's mowing down the lawn . . . he didn't seem like much too bad a guy" What a story that song has. . . . do you know the background of that song. Thanks for the visit. Don
Thanks Hammy, I have to admit it was fun, but not being relaxed makes it hard to play. We are having morning shows regular now so there will be more opportunitites. Don
Thanks Mike, it was a spur of the moment decision to play. Everyone else was though. I remember hearing my own voice coming back from the mains. What a rush! Don
Thank you Danny, Townes has tunes that really get me. "Pancho and Lefty" . . . "If I needed You" . . . artist amaze me how they can put together a song.
I was wondering if it showed. I am definatly more comfortable around the fire in a picking circle, but I sure did enjoy the sound coming back to me from the PA. A different experience for sure, and everyone applauded after and that felt good. Don
I am glad that you liked it, and I appreciate your taking the time to mention it. I looked at your channel again. Man I never saw anyone hold a guitar the way you do. Left handed with the low E on the bottom. How did you ever learn to play that way . . . must be a story in it. Don
Sheer boredom,I'm always up for a challenge,I think my strongest piece of motivation to do it came from a letter in a guitar player magazine, syaing something along the lines of a right handed player that trys to become a left-handed player will not be successful at all,and I was like hmmm, we'll just see about that,it' was not easy ,but I'll never go back!!!!
Dammit, Don! I've had my own shot of this ready to upload for days, but I've been putzing around with other stuff and you beat me to it. RATZ!
I thought it was great seeing you up there for a change, instead of hiding behind the mixing board, and it was SUCH a laid back day that I think you were the only one who noticed the stage fright OR the flat string. LOL
Hi Moosie, I will be looking forward to seeing what you got on video. It was quite an experience being on the mic with people listening. Sometimes when I am setting up the stage I play a song, but no one is here then.
I'm uploading my own clip as I type, Don. Same song, different perspective. It's one thing I like about having multiple cameras around; each one captures a different point of view.
I do know that feeling of sitting in front of a mic when people are actually looking at you. (gulp!) After you do it a few times, that fear factor fades and you actually start liking it. :-)
You sound a lot like Guy Clark.
