  • If i hear that music i can feel an ancient elvish magic coming out of the woods.

One of the sadest and greatest songs i have ever heard!

  • The English translation is awful. But it sounds great in Elvish!

  • is beuatiful the sindarin i know speak in sindarin is the language more beautiful then all the other MELLON NIN !!!

  • who's the interpret?

  • Lovely.

  • I imagine that picture as Lothlorien in Spring :P

  • i love this

    =')

  • penny na saila ar alta ar vanya:)))(elvish)!got it??

  • The sources of Quenya are Finish,Latin and Greek. The reason he created it such a beautiful language was to fit such a place as Middle-Earth

  • I dont think he was inspired by Greek, but Latin, Finnish and Walsh.

  • Qenya and Sindarin may sound a bit like latin but vocabulary and grammar are totaly different. The language is darivating from nowhere, with exception of Tolkiens imagination :D. So claimings that French and Spanish people can learn Quenya easier are redicolous.

  • French and Spanish???? Who the hell said that, these and Elvish are totally different! Though I must say you can't just create a language, Tolkien had strong connections in the grammar and vocab, too :D.

  • You're right, even if you tried creating a language from nowhere, you would be influenced by ANY language you know.

But I think he meant that people speaking French or Spanish don't have an easier job on learning/speaking Quenya.

To remove misunderstandings (if I am right) ^^

  • Actually, I think they do have an easier job, because those two languages are more complex than English. There are more rules on pronounciation and whatnot.

  • larakiara, I speak Spanish, very little French but fluent in spanish. Not the least easier. The Elvish when spoken sounds a lot more like a slavic language than a romance language (i.e. spanish or french) maybe even a bit ancient Greek. just my 2 cents

  • In truth, English is one of the most complicated languages still in common use. Not because it has so many rules, but because it has so many exceptions to them. Because they combine grammar and vocabulary from so many language groups, English's rules are a mess.

  • Whose rating are you referring to? The FSI? Declining languages are considered easier to learn overall because they are so predictable once you've mastered their basic mechanics. I don't know that it necessarily makes any difference, but I did major in Classics and linguistics.

  • Oh, ok, sorry :). I thought that in the first part he means, well, that it doesn't really have roots "with the exception of Tolkien's imagination", but it seems like it was just a misunderstanding :). And thanks for your comment :).

  • personnally I'd say elvish is most like Celtic

  • Its Enchanting, Isnt it?

  • yes, it does look like a darivative from latin...

  • Quenya is also easier to learn for French or Spannish people, because it looks more like Latine.

Anyway, this song is purely beautiful !

  • I am able to speak old english,

    not verry fluently though...lol

but i can see some resemblence in the "elvish" and old english language(s)...

  • Escuchar esta musica le hace tan bien a mi espiritu, siento que se eleva, que se nutre. Es musica para el alma, profunda...inunda mi espiritu y lo hace feliz!

  • sindarin is based mainly on welsh. also influenced by old english and old norse. quenya finnish. there are many other languages mentioned in tolkien's works, all originally derived from quendi, i read. the only way i got familiar as a teenager with the elvish languages was by reading the appendixes of LOTR, which contains aphabets and word listings and phonetics. that's all i can tell you abt actually learning elvish; haven't looked into it.more sources might have come about after the movies.

  • As far as I know, it's a whole variety of languages.. Alot of finnish (Grammar as well, i think), ancient english and what not..

  • I may be speaking out of my own stupidity, but I was under the impression the elvish language took after Gallic not finnish, am I right? completely wrong on this? of course you guys follow this more than I do, so Id say you are a lot more knowledgeable than I am, help me out guys, because I do believe this is a beautiful language, and if the actors can learn to speak it, why not us, and how do we do such a thing, where are the books, the tapes, the Rosetta stone for elvish? LOL :o)

  • actually tolkein got his influence in elvis a lot from old norse, aswell as celtic/gaelic

  • quenya was much inspired by finnish, the older finnish, i'd say (found in kalevala --a finnish collection of epic poems). still, current finnish contains phonetically much of quenya feel, i'd say, for ex. in words/phrases like 'mieliteko', 'vetehinen', 'suvanto', 'ylimielisyys', 'aikaisintaan', 'tullen ja('ya') mennen', 'onnenkantamoinen'.

  • Yes indeed,, its good to impress the girls if u can speak elven languace :P

  • omg no, they´ll think u are a freak :D

  • I would definately date a guy who could speak elvish.

    Its so....romantic...

  • but it is so difficult....

    i tried xD

  • where did you try?

  • lmaoo

  • i agree , i want to learn how to speak it!!!!

  • I love this song!

  • Do they hav a book tat teach u about the elvish language? I desperate to know

  • Silmarillion has everything about Elves.

  • lol there are real living languages out there that sound just as beautiful (possibly more), maybe you should try learning some of those :)

  • Sériieux sa ma faiis Pleurer Plusiieurs fOiix .. C'eii tOut siimplement Magiique et Magniifiique !! (L)

  • Absolute beauty and harmony, healing sounds, a remembrance from the past.

  • I would love to learn elvish does anyone know anywhere where i can learn it?

  • Try Welsh, it's sounds very similar...

  • yes, welsh and other celtic languages are very beautiful indeed

  • Isn't Quenya mainly based on Finnish?

  • yes man, just put on google theres a lot of resources an people who also know the lenguage

    im learning actually lol

  • Alright Thanks.

  • Heavenly music . Reminds me of my holiday last year exploring the New Forest ,so peaceful and tranquil .

  • it is a great soundtrack realy good

  • I think anyone's free to learn a second language once they're at least fluent in their own. *wink*

  • I hope for your sake, you learn your own!

  • hehe but didnt you know...

    were all elfs here.....

  • that's right ;D

  • es ist gut gewesen aber es könnte noch ein bisschen mehr zu sehen sein TSCHAU

  • This rises you above the skies .Beautiful

  • who sing this

  • There are worse things in this worl that people can do in their spare time... For some people fantasy IS their life, and it can be lucrative if you know to work it ;) Look at how much money Blizzard is making with WOW, and WotC with Magic:The Gathering... Peter Jackson Mad a fortune off these LotR movies as well. If Tolkein was alive, he would be crazy rich too. Don't knock what you don't understand or can't see. I'm sure they got your money anyway, so they get the last laugh... HAHA!

  • Then don't watch television or films, don't play computer games and don't read books. Just work all the time and spend your entire life satisfying the needs of your body. But ... what about the needs of your soul?

  • It is a sublime song which engulfed me into

    deep spiritual mood

it addresses my soul like a prayer.

  • Pardon me, but your words spoke to my spirit.

    You speak truth there, dear.

    Blessed be.

  • no..it can not...

  • See my reply to HelloFade2. Unless you can top the money that has been made off of fantasy, keep working your "real world" job and pay your "real world" bills... How awesome is that?!...

  • It is very awesome.

  • I'm sure...

  • Whatever you choose to do with your time IS real life. You are 'living'. Books, movies, games are all meant to entertain, surprise and make you feel amazing so I'm pretty sure you live more emotions through them than drinking a beer at a pub.

The sex argument also fails. There are hookers, there is porn. Most of the people that comprehend literature, art and science don't want some 90 IQ something tit-flashing cunt to waste their time.

I'm happy to be a nerd, so you can just fuck off. Cheerio.

  • You are quite entertaining yourself. I like what you wrote. Except for the fuck off part.

  • Sod off would be more adequate perhaps?

  • i would like to be in thah world

  • me too! it would be so beauutiful life!

  • Is there any way to get a one-way ticket to Middle Earth ? When is the next vortex to there ?

  • Damn it ! The song in Elvish are so beautiful that I want to go there ... if only it was possible ...

  • I hope one day....

    One day...

    Unfair sorrowful neverending dream...

Poor of us... traped in reality...

  • I so agree! I wish that world existed for real.

  • the lyrics here are typed as sindarin but are sung in quenya that's why they only make sort-of sense

  • It's beautiful. Namarie.

  • yeha its like a singing angel, it let my sorrows forget if it goes bad :(

  • the music from lord of the rings is so beautiful

  • Truly beautifull.

Remindes me of a childhood dream, so real and unreal at the same time.

    Thank you.

  • That was very lovely. Thank you for posting.

    ~Journey Well

  • Absolutely beautiful score in any language.

  • it's similar to wales language: )

  • is there a real language close to this?

  • No, and that's the point of it ;) Tolkien was a linguist and he beased most of his work on the so called lost languages of Arda.

  • o right, kl :), its a beautiful language!

  • u can learn elvish jsu ttype in on google and go to the second link called Elvish Phrases. Im fluent in it now! me and my friend speak it all the time

    ^^

  • Shebzee, the elvish language as we see part of in the movies are made up by the author of the books:P Jrr Tolkien actual created his own language, inspired by other languages such as Finnish for example..So yes this language exists and it's very amazing in my opinion

  • Thaa-bagh gro-Duzg! Beliv Orcs, food! Arrrgh! Ther no elv spik, their sing like birds, yeah. Birds yammy. Elvs yammy. No elvs spik, food no spik, arrgh.

  • I have been to Middle Earth-it is a place I have been going to for years in my sleep.

    Hard to explain but true.

  • I know what you mean.

  • thats sweet

  • is elven actually a language or is it an awesome made-up one?

  • It's an awesome one made up one by Tolkien.

  • well i like it!!!

  • a fantastic auther i bet he dant think they wold be ths big!

  • Guys! What does estelio veleth mean?

  • trust love

  • SO Beautiful!

  • AND IT COULD BE A NEW WORLD LANGUAGE

  • oh! I wish it was!

  • It's too beautiful for this world.

  • WONDERFULL,5 STAR,FAV

  • I cant really manage to relate the song with the text, its not the same...but i still love the song

  • Malyia07 - firstly, please don't talk about 'language' when your spelling & grammar are both atrocious. Secondly, who are you to tell others that they are wasting their lives by learning anything, whether it be a hobby or otherwise? What a tool!!!!!! Great song btw

  • who have said that we are studying it??

  • well maby he like it..

  • when you like learning it there is no reason not to do it or?

it's not a waste of time to learn something you love to?

[sorry for my english, i'm from austria.^^]

  • thats true..

  • i agree on the american part but im a brit and im eager to learn quenya, do you know of a gd site(preferably audio based) cheers:) btw this is a beautiful piece

  • I don't know of anything audio based (if such a site even exists) But there's this site called Ardalambion. I think it's really good. It has a Quenya course, and I would recommend it as a good place to start. Unfortuanately I can't post the link because for some reason Youtube takes issue with that, but if you just type Ardalambion into Google the site should come up.

  • Yeah, but I like wasting my life :)

  • lol you're the funniest person.

And come on guys, there are better things to do than waste your lives arguing about Elvish on facebook. Just enjoy the song.

  • I AGREE,BUT IT DOES SOUND WONDERFULL

  • SO SAD!!!

  • MAGICAL! This song sends shivers down my spine. You really can feel this song in your daily life, when everything just crashed in your life and you suddenly realize that everything's gonna be alright.

  • This is possibly the most beautiful song ever written for a film.

  • duh, cause no other film had a song written in Elvish

  • One more thing. Is it just me or does the woman singing keep saying "estili", "estilio", etc.?

  • Does anyone know if the Movie people wrote the lyrics, or if they got it from something Tolkien wrote?

  • wow...for a moment i thought the world has become a better place...how magical, how wonderful

  • so beautiful,

    Thanks for sharing:)

Its been on my favs haha

  • love it!!!

  • i love this song

  • I think I stand as the only person who loved Tolkien's masterpiece but has never studied Sindarin, Quenya or any of the languages spoken in LOTR. I have got to start learning this stuff...

Good job by the way. :)

  • thank u ^_^

  • I love it!

  • wow.

    you speak elfish?

  • I found at lyrics mania different lyrics than those above, could you please tell me the sourse of the lyrics so I can check it out?the others dont seem to match that much, even thought there's a translation of them

    Heo naefre wacode daegred

    To bisig daegeweorcum

    Ac oft heo wacode sunnanwanung

    Thonne nihtciele creap geond moras

    And on thaere hwile

    Heo dreag tha losinga

    Ealra thinga the heo fortas.

Heo swa oft dreag hire sawle sicende

Heo ne cuthre hire hertan lust

  • that sounds like latin ^^

  • No. Those lyrics belongs to another song. On the sountrack it's called the missing and it's not elvish. It's old english.

  • ooooo such a charming melody....i'm amazed:)so relaxing....

  • do these lyrics even mean anything??? please i really wanna know =D

  • read in the description ^_^

  • omg i love this!

  • beats 50cent

  • hehe xD of course

  • Maybe you could :)

  • =) not really like that x)

  • I love this song. I'll forever see Arwen's face when I hear this. So relaxing.

  • this song is so peaceful.

  • whoever composed/sang this are geniuses.

  • Elvish XD

  • WHAT LANGUAGE IS THIS?

  • She has the voice of an angel. Or atleast I think she has a voice of an angel...never heard an angel sing or talk XDD

  • I agree...it is so calming and beautiful! I wish I could sing like that...

  • Very sad song and beautifull

  • It's so beautiful and a little sad.. I don't now why. Maybe because the story of Arwen? Who know? :) Great video!

  • =) I agrre with you, that it is sad.

    Thank you

  • I know a little elvish, and that song isn't about Arwen Undomiél, but if I remember right, it's about Middle earth... as I said Arwens name in Quenya is Undomiél, eveningstar, and that word doesn't show up in the song... ^^ but this is one of the most beautiful songs on earth, and Tolien is the best author :)

  • once i tried to learn elvish, but after 4 weeks i gave it up because it's really soo hard; i used an ELVISH-DICTIONARY where the grammar and everything was described very well...

  • I want to learn elvish! Can you please say me what's the book and who write it? Thank you!

  • it's an artificial language and copied finnish. If you want to learn something exotic try to spell a verse or a few lines of the prototype of Odyssey in ancient greek.

  • Thanks!

  • Can someone knowledgeable in this form of music tell me how the vocal effects are achieved? It's like the chanting barely touches each word, but the meaning still comes out... I would love to learn how to do this very badly

  • i wish I knew

  • hum... we use alot our resonators (english?), mining sinuses, throat, all "empty spaces" to ensure flow of air is strong and we can frame it inside these cavities. it is not like speacking, it is more like playing the flute. my teachers are more specialists than me and could explain better. but it how it feels inside. this is no different than any classical singing : join a decent choir and you'll learn!! ;)))

  • Howard Shore is one of the best composer of the world.I like him and John Williams, Randy Edelman, Danny Elfman, Alan Silvestri, Steve Jablonsky, Klaus Badelt, Hans Zimmer, James Newton Howard etc XD

  • is so beatyful

  • who composed this music?

  • Howard Shore composed the music for all 3 films

  • Beautyful..

Anno and me is trying to learn it..

    OMG !! xD

  • hehe, that's good. It is not very hard. I can it already.

    Good luck!

  • do you happen know where i can learn elvish? thanks for posting this video it makes me feel better

  • So wonderful !!!....Cheers!!!, ~Sergio.
