  • MOP's "Roll Call" brought me here. Then I noticed the Main Source sample. Premier and Large Pro are the shit.

  • I could sodomize Larry Craig's blumpkin-ridden butthole to this song if I could!

sodomy from crack addicts feels good listening to R&B.

  • "we would really like to help you.."

  • sample by DJ PREMIER FOR M.O.P. .. Firing Squad

  • classic

  • pure classic.

  • I like the way Heavy D used this joint he had a similiar message in his song I think iit was off the peaceful journey cd i don't want to give misinformation either it was peaceful jurney or blue funk he used this sample anyway this is classic

  • @76BomberGeez You're exactly right, it was from Peaceful Journey. I think it was called Letter to the Future, one of Pete Rock's earliest productions. Large Professor also used this on the remix of Main Source's Peace Is Not The Word To Play.

  • @76BomberGeez you're absolutely right about the sample. It was used on "what's wrong with out future", from the blue funk album

  • MOP

  • aww yeah.. nice and funky, when music was true..

  • When a sample is done elegantly and properly, showing respect to the original artist and tune, sampling is merely a tribute and a way to show honor and appreciation to the original tune. And a way to introduce the tune to the younger generation that would never be able to dig it out themselves. The originals usually kick ass, though! :)

  • say man, what it is!!

  • most of the black oldies have been used and abused by sampler addicts ...Sample on I rather get samples no one else heard of especially if it's a longer loop.

  • Peace Is The Word To Play - Main Source

  • DILLA!!

  • People look down on those who find out about the classics through modern day samples... I say it's a great way to pay tribute to what these artists grew up listening to in the kitchen, and to expose new generations to, all while maintaining the creativity to make the music their own.

  • M.O.P !

  • Now I know where Heavy D got this from. I always thought it was The Meters because this group's sound is somewhat similar to The Meters.

  • This sounds like something The Meters would have recorded. They should make a law that if you sound this good you have to keep recording until you die! These guys were awesome.

  • Whenever I see that something came out in '72, I know it's good.

  • Sampled by Heavy D "Letter to the Future"

  • fuck both you faggets im sampling!

  • @minDc0nTroL1 LOL...me too..its good for the earth..its called recycling

  • yes

  • it's also cultural heritage. thank God some passionated rigorous diggers keep trying to give those men's soul creations some justice and Memory, it's an hommage to The History of da People right there. Much respect. I am happy to know which rapper sampled which master of funk, soul, jazz etc. keeps their names alive, this is an essential part of what gives this mad world humanity. It's just love of Art, which saves the world.

  • VERY WELL STATED! SERIOUSLY, THIS MUSIC IS SO ABSOLUTELY DEEP, TALENTED, PASSIONATE & GOOD FOR ANY OCCASION. I'M A SERIOUS FUNK-HEAD, SO I HAVE TO AGREE THAT I COULD CARE LESS WHO SAMPLED WHAT & FROM WHO!!! NOT THAT I DON'T LOVE SOME OF THE SONGS USING SAMPLES, BECAUSE I DO. I AGREE THAT IT DOES HELP TO KEEP THE MUSIC ALIVE. NOTHING BEATS THE ORIGINAL HOWEVER. WITH ALL THE TECH WE HAVE NOW...HOPEFULLY THE YOUNG BLOODS WILL DIG ON THE OLE' ORIGINAL FUNK & BROADEN THEIR SCOPE...

  • yeah, like whatever man... trying to force your cryptic opinions on others will never lend to true communication...you've got a lot to learn. And remember this, when you make a response, be prepared for an equal and opposite one. Not everybody shares in your viewpoint. you just met one who won't put up with anyone's antagonistic BS.

  • @btinsley1 I don't give a fuck anymore man but here. I found a nice song. I'm sure you know of it and the band but . WAR -why can't we be friends. Fucking hippie classic bro. You could smoke out to that shit like over and over.

  • only the squares care about samples..been there did that in high school pre "ebay"...listen to THE MUSIC..

  • yadayada...i'll just say it...samples from are needed in today's music (chuckle) because generally today, men can't sing...they can only rap...and since no one knows how to play an instrument anymore, we are slowing getting dumber, lending even more apathy to not only the message, but the black musical experience. when some younguns trip over that, they get all indignant, but their musical exposure is so limited, how ARE they to know what is real talent?

  • @btinsley1 I'd think you're half-way correct, nd just viewing the media and it's society in a stereotypical, biased, and generalized rationale. I'm only 13 years of age, but I listen to a variety of genres and compositions of music; believe or not, I've examined that some of the musically intertwined youth in my environment actually can understand the evolution and intuitive thought around music. Although I do agree with what you're saying for the most part, the world is just trending the sound.

  • @UltimateSeducerIII:I believe our youth may understand the evolution & thought process that musically-derived messages have to offer, but that's simply not enough. Society is in desperate need of modern-day talent to not merely understand the process & meaning in music, but actually create from concept, not piggy-back, and continue the heritage. Viewing the media stereotypically naturally takes place because the audience is undaunted in replicating the offense. That's not trend-that's reality

  • @btinsley1 Agreed, but to view the media on bias and then make an activistic statement is fairly contradictory; especially fashioning it mainly on the view of a topic like music itself. I believe the world trends music - America in general, - because it's not trended by normal citizens. The Beverian Illuminati and Freemason connection creates the interpolation of music and media. Enough said., cos nothing's going to change.

  • @UltimateSeducerIII: Music is not trended by normal citizens? Trends don't pay a performer's or producer's salary....normal citizens do. As for the Barvarian Illuminati...what? Your hodge podge of irrelevant words have absolutely nothing to do with my threaded topic / comment. The originating topic was the dumbing-down of society by way of less skilled performers. Sampling is an easy way to produce, but what happens when there's no one to "originate" music. Enough said...

  • @btinsley1 If you had the fucking IQ to keep up with intellectual messages and relevance to original topics, and how conversations evolve, you'd understand clearly. Let me break it down: NO REASON TO COMPLAIN OR MAKE STATEMENTS ON MUSICAL EVOLUTION/ SHIT WONT IMPROVE/ I WAS TRYING TO PUT IT IN A MORE ENHANCED CONTEXT. Trying to help you see the reasons behind reasons. NUFF SAID

  • @UltimateSeducerIII; calm down you officious, self-righteous, little 22 year old punk. You aren't nearly as smart as you think you are. is there a hole in your head or is your head in a hole? either way, the world is a better place for the deed. I sugggest you quickly enroll in a literary composition applications class in your ridiculous attempts to use words that have no cohesive worth. if you are in school - stay there you soiled fuck wipe. i'm here to hear music, not your rants.

  • @btinsley1 Ha, man I'm 13. I didn't mean to confuse you or your lack of literary intelligence - fucking dumbass. The issue is with your - - let's say, 'race' of middle age egotistical fucktards. You can't examine situa correctly. I would say 'contemplate' rather than 'examine', but you'd take that as: 'to study or consider as a possibility,' etc. So before speaking upon your great intelligence and attempting to belittle one who is just exchanging words with you; pick up a dictionary. Stupid ass.

  • @UltimateSeducerIII: oh you're 13? then you're a liar too according to your channel.

let it go fool young’un…I eat surly bitch-pups like you for breakfast & poop ‘em out in tightly coiled piles the next day. i'm here for the music, not your psychotic misdirected outbursts...save that for your therapist you pathetic cretin. now shut your big double-breasted lips & play in traffic, you illiterate, pizza-eating, back woods, pock-faced little dick stank bitch. holla !

  • @UltimateSeducerIII: Go back to your crack den …every time you open your mouth, you subtract from the sum of human knowledge…your mom should have thrown you away and kept the stork…

  • @btinsley1 excuse me, let me correct 'situa' to 'situation' in that last message. Because i am obviously dumb and must respect you. You have it misconcepted at every level, sir.

  • @UltimateSeducerIII: Man, you’re pathetic…it’s great to see someone make a complete fool of himself with not a clue of the self-inflicted action….you sure mom didn’t hook up with george bush 25 years ago?

I'm going to make you reply, since you have so much to say my little bitch-puppet.

  • @btinsley1 Truthfully we're just communicating the roots of the common 'my dick is bigger than yours' middle school altercation. I don't need bullshit, but it's not like i'd take to the heart man. Break even,

  • @UltimateSeducerIII: you can't hang bitch

  • @btinsley1 Whatever man sorry if I pushed the limit. I don't have anymore shit to say - I don't like participating in E-Feuds. And yeah, I'm a self-righteous, foolish, young, emotionally twisted, heathen-like creation made to exhibit my lack of general knowledge on this earth. That sir, individualizes me as something you will never be. In truth I admit I said some stupid shit, but man if you realize you can't comment something and not expect to get meddled upon.

  • Great track...

sample this, sample that, sample my nuts you bitches !

  • MOP sampled this for roll call

  • this song has been 100 more times in the 90's great song love the message

  • Premo/ M.O.P

  • i hate to add another sampled comment, but one of all time my favourite hip hop tunes rip's it.....top choice clique 'peace of mind'!

  • these songs are good but its they're still good with rappers over them too. its not a competition

  • It doesn't matter if the song has been sampled to death. It's down to whether your musical personality is strong enough to leave your own signature on it and make it your own. I've sampled stuff jammed ideas to loops and twist it to my own thing. I then take the sampled loops out and no one can tell where I got the idea from. The tune I end up with sounds nothing like the point I started from. Its a question of musical interpretation.

  • backwards... This is human experience put to rhythm and melody. The african american experience to be precise.

It's what makes this timeless. I doubt there will be many people 40 years from posting beats for people to think on.

Not disrepecting the art of beatcrating but when listening to songs like this who cares if Street Thug sampled this for "Trick Bitches and Courvoisier"

  • yea..

    beat = nice pattern

    this.. nice SOUL !!

  • i like how you rock your ignorance on your sleeve. the era of hip hop that did a lot of sampling from this era was one of substance not like today's stuff that's all about bitches, money, and cars. guys like Wu-tang, Nas, and others showed intelligence and combined it with street dialect. it was paying homage to the music they were raised on while creating their own. but of course credit goes to the original.

  • @HrhFish so then why not start from scratch with something thats you very own idea from the get go ( of course there are only so many musical note's that we know of )

  • @HerbertReid First of all because the music you decide to sample is something that requiers several musicians, so it's something you can't do by yourself.

Second of it, an acoustic ensemble sounds a thousand times better than most of those screwed up electronic keyboards, rhodes and all..

Third, when you chop up and flip samples upsidown you can create something than nobody would have ever imagine, it can be very special and unique..

And finally it gives forgotten records a 2nd life.

  • i see your point. the music should stand out by itself but most hip hop heads will always care. it's fun for them.

  • i know iam one of the victims :P

  • i care cuz i produce and its nice to see how much a song has been sampled....cuz if its been sampled to much or by a really influential producer i wont even touch it

  • @rezi206 The reason we care is because as much as the music DOES stand out by itself, when it is re-incorporated into a modern form of music, it is fascinating to see how a producer can take bits and pieces of songs from the past, to create something totally new. I can't see how people don't understand that.

  • @rezi206 - they care because this powerful shit is the roots of hip hop. also its fun to try and flip a sample differently than whats already been done. not as fun as finding something unknown but its more of a challenge.

If you dont like hip hop then you just wouldnt understand.

  • @rezi206 hah i got into soul, funk,an oldies cause of sampling.makes me appreciate this music much more

nothing like chilling with a blunt listening to some good jams

  • @bigdudegman123 I second that

  • @bigdudegman123 word up

  • pretty groovey and cool.

  • as sampled by main source

  • Anybody know here I can find this album? It's not turning up anywhere.

Also, any other afro-funk artists you'd recommend?

  • Anyone find lyrics for this...?

  • if you find yourself!

  • hey you guys dont you remember THE 70S. this is gooooood.
