  • ooooh gotta love dem good music chills haha, ROCK ON!!

  • Who disliked this? Probably just mad this wasn't something they came up with.

  • @rwd4life : I think I know why someone might have disliked this (it wasn't me, by the way). It's in the wrong key. Metallica recorded Blackened in E, the pitch has been changed on here to F#, either that or it was automatically changed when it was uploaded.

  • @AndyB1286 wow my friend , your musical ears are very sharp.

  • @rwd4life : appreciate the comment :-) I've been listening to music since I was like 7 or 8, and it was around 15 or 16 that I realised I could work out what some chords were just by hearing them. It helps if you play an instrument like the guitar or the piano, then when you hear certain notes or chords you remember them from all the times you've played them on the instrument :-)

  • @AndyB1286 yeah man , i notice it when i play as well , it comes naturally afterwards

  • I was thinking: It would've been really cool if they tagged this to the end of Dyer's Eve (the end of the album).

  • jason newsted was a legend. and metallica treated him right, just notsome of the fans at first because he was filling so hard shoes. r.i.p. cliff burton

  • the mp3 file please

  • wow, i knew it was backwards from the day it came out, but being as it came out so long ago i never thought of trying to hear it forwards (wasnt any youtube or internet back then). very cool to hear it now, thanx!

  • in my opinion it sound's cooler when it goes backwards

  • 867 5309 Cool video I'm impressed

  • They used an ebow

  • es blackened al reves jajaja .

    ya lo comprobe

  • @fedemetallica100

Mejor dicho lo que era Blackened al revés es la grabación original xD. La intro la hicieron asi en la grabación, y luego le dieron la vuelta al editarlo, cosillas misteriosas que les gusta hacer a los grandes grupos :D

  • Nah, It would've ok to keep it as is on "Blackened" because if they'd used this again in a different way, it would've kept the 1988 Metallica fans thinking, "Doesn't that sound like the intro to 'Blackened' backwards?", which would've started a huge debate to this day.....which would've been funny. I think using this part to start and END the album would've been interesting. Is it me, or does the heavy modulation on the guitar sound more prominent played this way vs. the original backwards way?

  • Ok, that could work, but..........another possibility could be instead of ending the song with James' grunt (I think that's what it was), they could've extended the ending with this serving as a fill solo over the riff. I do like my original idea of it being a tenth track as a stand-alone tribute to Cliff, though I think maybe they would've had to something more with it to make it worthwhile.

  • I made an edit so this riff is at the end of the song and it sounds really good like if should actually be there. It's way too hard to explain what I did.

  • Have you posted that on here somewhere?

  • No, but I guess I could if I figure out how.

  • Oh, and if I do post it, do you want me to post it normal speed and pitch, or the one I have now which is a little faster and deeper pitch?

  • Do'em both. Why not? Everybody else has done the "Chipmunk James" thing, right?

  • Alright, now the hard part. Just gotta figure out how to upload an audacity file on to youtube.

  • Soldier on, brother! I have no idea how since I've never uploaded anything on here.

  • Hmm...well, ballz

  • if you want to upload what you did just export the song out of audacity, make it into an MP3, then import the MP3 into windows movie maker, through a picture in there and bam you have a youtube video lol

  • "Dyers Eve" ends so abruptly that it would've seemed weird to just throw that in there that it perhaps it could've been the last track. Then again, wasting 30 seconds of tape on one track would've seemed absurd to them, I'm sure.

  • Comment removed

  • Outro to "Blackened" you mean? I don't know..........I think with the momentum and emotion built right up to the end, this part might've killed the effect you get at the very end where they do the "all-stop" ending to the song. Besides all that, I don't think they wanted to tributize Cliff just yet at the very beginning of the album like that. It most likely would've been perceived as cheesy or cashing in on his legacy. Of course, it's easy to say these things 20+ years after the fact, I guess.

  • whoah i never knew about this! this is badass, but i still like the original version better. i just wish it was always loud and not fading in :(

  • well, i mean i like the reversed version better :) lol

  • so fucking cool. i wanna learn it so bad.

  • Awesome.....

  • yeah, you're right it's really sad and would be perfect outro !

  • dude, that has gotta be one fo the saddest guitar riffs ever... stil awesome though

  • The backward version on the album is way cooler.

  • Befitting to the band, it's dramatically somber.

  • Sounds like something Cliff could've written. Does sound better backwards, in the way in which it was used. As it is here, it would fit nicely in "To Live Is To Die" somewhere, like if they didn't cut it off in the middle of the acoustic part, they could've played it out to slowly fade away with this part fading in to finish it off. That would've been a nice nod to a fallen comrade, I think.

  • this is great

  • This is awesome. It really does have a very bitter feel.....a very dark sound to it....it's maybe even scary sounding :S

  • holy shit start welcome home sanitarium after when the solo is done it will be so fucking great!

  • this is the better version

  • This music has a very bitter feel to it. I like the 'normal' version and the backwards version. Someone should make a version where this is the outro of Blackened.

  • I never thought this was backward. but it sounds nice too this way

  • the backward version is the one on the record man. Metallica put it bacwards on the record. This is the original playing

  • i remember when one of my buddies first told me that blackened was backwards, i was like "...the whole song? whatever you ass" but i later learned that it was just the inro gahahagargargragar...its awesome

  • then you can imagine how i feel at the moment O_O

  • yeah man, its pretty rad. a good idea too

  • this intro was on one of their demos and i guess someone gave them the idea to put it in reversed.

  • it jason's idea ;)

  • + was

  • Jason rules

  • So much better than the studio version, they should have used it like this.

  • I always found the beginning of the intro to be a little sudden, this explains why

  • damnit why did i not realize this wasbackwards

  • damn, that sounded cool.

they should've used that at the END of the song...

  • yeah that would ba a cool ending NIMHFS agreed

  • i like it more this way around tbh.

  • holy shit its backwards on the album???!?!?!?! no wonder i always found it hard to replicate on my guitar

  • lol you wud need to be pretty good guitarist to do that

  • it's impossible

you can play the notes but you'll never get the same sound

  • this intro is pretty cool, but the other just sounds like it came from hell!! which is pretty cool

  • They should use this original intro in the new album...

  • thats the best fuking idea ever

  • Oh no way, reversed is way better! This way is like any other metal band would have done it back then. Reversed it's like some other world, demonic sound rising from the dark depths, It's the sound Metallica makes when it's poised to crush your head with BLACKENED!

  • actually, it was Jasons idea to reverse the intro ;)

  • Oh, well there ya go! hahaha

  • I'm surprised he had any creative input given the way they treat him.

  • yeah, that's true. But Jason actually got a writing credit on Blackened... one of two on his first two albums, the second being My Friend of Misery off Black album. So he had a little creative input, but regarding the span of years it wasn't much :P

  • He only had credits on Blackened, My firend of misery and where the wild things on Re-Load

  • @Kizak6 i actually read the book about cliff burton. its said in the book that it was cliff who wrote this intro and reversed it not jason. but who knows..

  • Fuck me thats awesome

  • whoa i didn't realize there were so many of these haha. check out mine, it's not mixed as well as yours tho. good job

  • AWESOME.

  • thats pretty awesome
