The league was SO much better when the players--including goalies--could police and defend themselves without fear of giving up 7 minute power plays or being suspended.

Pretty cool. I like the last figure with Tiger Williams. I remember reading a quote of Williams' a while ago about Smith and his chop to the calf of Williams. Funny to see an actual figure depicting this story! I hated Smith growing up as a North Stars fan and losing the Cup Finals to the Isles in '81, but I sure admire him now--aalong with Nystrom, Bossy, Potvin and Trottier. I moved from Minnesota to Long Island in '81 right after the Finals, and GOD was NY crazy for the Isles! Cheers!

And it was the Colorado Rockies, not the Avalanche. The Avalanche were still called the Quebec Nordiques at the time. THe Rockies went on to become the Devils.

billy smith was awesome

he First NHL goalie to be credited with a goal was Billy Smith of the New York Islanders, he didn't score it in any way though, he was simply the last player on the opposing team to touch the puck. The goal was technically scored by a guy from the Colorado Avalanche who messed up a pass with an empty net.
