  • Nothing beats the Youngbloods version, but this is wonderful to hear. Crosby's voice is a dream.

  • The Shoop Shoop Song (It's in His Kiss)

  • This version has the beat from "It's in his kiss" !!!

  • @hydraIX listen to the searchers do its in her kiss its in youtube wasnt released in the USA

  • nice pre-byrds crosby tune, thanks for putting it on

  • his was written in 1963 by Dino Valenti from Quicksilver Messenger Service. He signed away rights to it when he was imprisoned for marijuana possession. The Youngbloods recorded it in 1967 and gave the composer credit to Chet Powers, a name they made up. dan

  • LOL...sounds like "Guantanamera," or "La Bamba." Very un-edgy...

  • This is Crosby singing???? It's not a woman???? wow.....beautiful...

  • David Crosby, Jim McGuinn, et al., premiered as the Byrds in Los Angeles, 1965, Personal photos of the event reside with me to this day. Yes, billysings, most pop version by the Youngbloods/69. Jefferson Airplane probably close second.Thank you for the history breakdown.

  • This sounds like Jefferson Airplane.

  • Wonderful and different version of one great song! Thanks for posting this :)

  • Shows why Crosby was not a lead vocalist. But harmony? One of the very best!

  • McGuinn did not want the song on a Byrds album. Even when David Crosby told him that is gonna be a succes. No way, said McGuinn. So we know th story: The Youngbloods recorded it and it was a smash hit for them.

  • 0:12 JESUS CHRIST is that crosby and gene clark??? really old picture

  • @NLFilms Yeh,McGuinn's in that photo too,but has been cropped out here.It was taken around the time the three of them recorded 'The Only Girl I Adore' as The Jet Set mid 1964-ish.By then the Beatles were an influence on their music but not on their hairstyles (takes a little longer to grow your hair)

  • Damn right Bro, H.P.Lovecraf't's version ROX! (He wrote some good eldritch pulp horror fiction too...) The song itself is an anthem for the Utopia that endures eternal in the Human Heart. One Love!

  • He must have been very warm in that Sweater and Jacket.

  • @Tom57ish That's why Californians are so cool - no choice in the matter if you're going live in the Californian sun AND wear clothes.

  • The lyrics are so deep, mystical and well worded that one would assume it was a song wrrien in the late 1960's, like 1968 or 1969, however it was first recorded on june 1st 1964 by The Kingston Trio. It is a beautiful song and The young Bloods's version that is most haunting and is the version that will last forever.

  • @brusselstarlight Completely agree. If it had been written in '67 it would still be amonst the very best and most enduring of the 'Hippy' anthems ad surpass most of what came out in that year. But it was written circa 1963 and that shows how far ahead of time this song was. Also memorably quoted in the opening bars of Nirvana's Territorial Pissings of course.

  • @RodCow Sorry,just read it was written in 1960 not 63.

  • so , any information on THIS session of crosby???? who were the musicians, etc.?

  • I thought The Youngbloods had a hit with Get Together. That's the version I am most familiar with anyway.

  • Chet Powers wrote Get Together in 1963. Dino Valenti was his stage name while with Quicksilver. The Kingston Trio first recorded it in 1964. A 1965 version by We Five charted at #31. Jefferson Airplane put it on their 1966 debut album. Also In 1966, Powers sold the song to Frank Werber, manager of the Kingston Trio to pay legal fees on a drug charge. The most popular version is by the Youngbloods from 1967. Used in a tv campaign, it was reissued in 1969. That charted at #5.

  • @billysings Man, Thanks for the comprehensive information. Nice.

  • @thanksforthemusic Truly my pleasure. Jesse Colin Young changed the world of music for me and it started with this song.

  • @billysings Thats not right dino valentis real name was dino valenti chet powers was a made up pen name the publisher used on the music when they bought the song when it was released by the youngbloods it wasnt a hit until it was used in a commercial for the national conferance of christians and jews

  • @spacepatrolman rock around the clock wasnt a hit until it was used in the movie blackboard jungle

  • @spacepatrolman That commercial was the tv campaign I referred to.

  • Neal Sedaka=David Crosby

  • does anyone notice he could duo with Grace Slick & if you were to close your eyes, you may not tell the difference?

  • not the best version but great song.

  • a little bit Trini Lopezísch... but also sooooo beautiful sung soo talented!!

  • The Youngbloods had a big hit with it in 1969, but it was written by Dino Vallente, earlier in the 60s. For a great live TV performance, search YouTube for NbQ5rHzrhVw

  • i just want want to sing' oh come on come on come on baby shake it now"

    when the chorus hits

  • twisat and shout beatles meets dino valente....meets kool....very nice cos version

  • If only the Byrds had recorded this one is 1966 or 1967 - they would be remembered so much more well known today...

  • Amazing... I admire his voice and beautiful energy

  • According to the liner notes of The Preflyte Sessions, this was recorded in early 1964 and produced by Jim Dickson. Crosby sang and played acoustic guitar, Tommy Tedesco played electric guitar, Ray Pohlman played bass and Earl Palmer played drums. The other songs from this session were Hoyt Axton's "Willie Jean", Ray Charles "Come Back Baby" and the traditional "Jack Of Diamonds". Dickson sent the tape to Joe Smith at Warner Bros., who replied that there was no hit material! Oops.

  • If this is pre Byrds, he is 20-22 years old. From the film clips, its from his Byrd days.

  • Nice song and groocy beat..I like it...

    David is such a talent

thank you for discovering it and posting it!

  • @Bigum99 Yeah, your welcome!

  • @Bigum99 crosby and nash did the theme from the cousteau society tv series oasis in space nobody seems to have this in here

  • Well...it seems the song was written by Chet Powers aka Dino Valenti who was a member of The Quicksilver Messenger Service. It was first recorded by The Kingston Trio under the title "Let's Get Together" in 1964, so that clears that up now.

  • Nothing tops The Youngbloods version in my little '60's universe. I presumed they wrote it. I presumed wrong by the sounds of it. I'd like to hear the HO Lovecraft version. I'd hate to hear The Jefferson Airplane version. David always had a nice voice and in my mind seems like an honest up front guy who admits he's got a big ego and that he's fucked a lot of stuff up, but gets on with life regardless. Wouldn't let him father my baby though, ha ha, no offense David. Sing it brother!

  • @cottageorgan Jeff air was kool...what ?????

  • really good crosby is sometimes almost too good, i can't believe

  • This song is from 1969 if I recall well, so there's no way It could have been pre-Byrds!

  • This song is an old folk song from the early 60's and was recorded by various artists throughout the 60's. Jeffersor Airplane recorded it in 1966 for instance.

  • Thanks for the information. I just thought It was an original song from the Youngbloods!

  • Wikipedia says David Crosby's version was 1964 - the Youngbloods 1967, and the song was written by Chet Powers "in the early 60s"

  • @raponte1955 You can tell from the rudimentary instrumentation and even Davids singing that it is earlier than 69 . The playing reminds me of the Great Society's playinjg which was 1966 . I would bet a lot of money that it is no later than 66 . Crosby is one of my 3 all time favorite male singers . But his singing here is definately not developed nearly as much as it was by 1969 .

  • @raponte1955 David recorded this in 1964.

  • @raponte1955 it was written in 1960, but David recorded this version in 1964... seeing how 1964 is the same year the byrds started, it is definitely possible that this is pre-byrds

  • @jackaroe2293 sorry, meant to say written in 1963

  • @raponte1955 They bought the lyrics off a friend back in 63 read Crosby's autob-bio...tells you everything

  • @raponte1955 funny they gave it a Twist & Shout Intro. Dino Valente (aka Chet Powers) wrote this song and it goes way back before the Byrds. Plus, the namby pamby delivery here would have never been cut in this fashion in '69. This is pretty historic actually seems like Crosby didn't know what he had. McGuinn, Valente, Crosby, Kantner, they all knew one another before they were.

  • @12347771 Burt burns wrote twist and shout he started Bang records it was taken over by the mafia

  • You're an idiot!

  • i never knew david crosby looked like that, what a differenc the hat and tache makes

  • what a great school you went to. all the pricks i know now would have turned out better people if we were taught the essential decency of bob dylan. are you running a bath? if not, then piss off

  • C**t.

  • are you afraid to write cunt on the internet? you are getting weirder and weirder i swear. tbh i am not a cunt, but i know a lot of cunts who care not for the musical genius of bob dylan. does something about bob dylan offend you? what would you say is acceptable to listen to then, seeing as you are the purvayor of all that is good and true

  • @FOXdevelopmentSux

Yes, this is a poor vocal performance. Embarrassing to hear.

  • oh man. this is just scary.

  • Folk rock is the only thing that realy says anything now listen to blowing in the wind by the searchers [ i played it for a room full of people everyone was crying ] .

  • What a great voice. Excellent control and expression.

    Very nice.

  • yeah you make fun of it white trash its very good

  • kinda dorked it up on the chorus...those drums...but hey a long time ago-go

  • Yes, keanelady2244. There are several of their songs here on YouTube. Most of them are those that show a 45 record spinning as the song plays, but there's actually a clip of the band lip-synching one of their songs in a movie titled "The Deadly Bees"(1966). Just enter "The Birds Ron Wood" and hit "Search" and several clips of their songs will appear. One last bit of trivia for you: They started going by The Birds Birds on the suggestion of Robert Stigwood so as not to be confused with The Byrds.

  • i use to think the byrds were a british rock group.

  • There was a British rock group called The Birds....different spelling.

  • Yep. Did you know, keanelady2244, that The Birds' lineup included none other than Ron Wood, former bassist for The Jeff Beck Group and guitarist in the Rolling Stones since 1975.

  • No I didn't knovinski. I must have a bad memory. I was once talking to them in Morecambe.

    Fancy me not knowing that.

Gosh. Thank you for telling me.

  • They started by mimicking the beatles and blending that with folk rock [ala jackie deshannon and the searchers ] .

  • Great!! parts of it remind me of the byrds "have you seen her face"

  • CAll me crazy but he sounds like Mickey Dolenz of the Monkees to me. Great rendition , no doubt!

  • You're NOT crazy! That IS Mickey Dolenz! The truth can now be told - The Monkees was a band of amazing studio musicians who played and sang on all the OTHER groups' records.

  • How is it Micky Dolenz? It doesn't sound like Micky at all!

  • Ha! Well played. But there really ought to be a "tongue-in-cheek" key for the "I don't get it" folks.

  • @livefromRaleighWorld yeah yeah your right it sound even more dolenz than dolenz himself man . it is great!!!! I love both crosby and dolenz scubiieee dipp scubbidapp scoobbeddatat to quote randy scousce git song from headquarters

  • Thanks for the post- I have always liked David's voice. The music from this era was oftne copied. A good song was often recorded by the folkies regularly- people forget- everything was on 1 channel then- Henry Mancicni- Blues Folk rock- This is a nice post- Bob

  • Wow, that's different. I had no idea that this song existed before the Paulist's PSA in 1968. He sounds like Cass Elliot though, I like the Youngblood's version better.

  • My favorite version is by a 60's band called HP Lovecraft.

  • They have really soaring harmonies on that [ the first concert i ever went to was hp lovecraft and the airplane at fillmore east ] .

  • @JasonTryp I have a live CD by Hp Lovecraft . Bought it about 5 years ago for the White ships . A gorgeous song . There was no Get Together on it and I don't remember them doing it but I'll look into it . are you sure your not confusing them with the Youngbools which to me is the all time best version . I saw Dino Valenti with Quicksilver and Buddy Miles at Fillmore West day after Jimi died - QMS played till 4 AM . fortunetely Dino only sang during 1st set . I really didn't like him at all

  • Se parece demasiado a los beatless.

  • Thanks for the song! I never heard it before sung by David but I love it :)

  • never heard it before ...yet, i love it!

  • kinda sounds like Michael Franks.

  • Wow, I didn't realize David Crosby had such a good solo voice. I've only heard him singing in harmony until now.

  • On the Byrds album PreFlyte there is a song called "The Airport Song" which is another nice Crosby showcase.

  • You got it Jason!

    Chris

  • THATS A JAZZY NUMBER

  • check out almost cut my hair by csny it's david's song, it's amazing, he sings lead on the track.

  • The Youbgbloods released "Get Together" in 1967, so I thinking this must be a David Crosby or Byrds demo because The Byrds were already a band at this time it seems...

  • That's corect; I'm thinking this is the demo he may have given to J. Airplane. When was this song written???

But yeah, this is probably recorded by David around '66, '67.

    I MIGHT be wrong though!!

  • It was recorded in late 63 or sometime around 64. He made a demo of himself with a producer (I think Jim Dickinson) to shop around at that time.

  • Wikipedia says it was written in the early 60s. It was by Dino Valente/Valenti under his pseudonym, Chet Powers. First recorded by the Kingston Trio, it was a top-40 chart hit for the We Five in '65. Byrds had recorded it in 64, and their managers, Tickner & Dickson were also publishers, this song being their first published in '63. Valenti was Crosby's roommate for a while. Later a chart hit for the Dave Clarke Five in the U.K. Also recorded by Judy Collins & the Airplane before the Yb's.

  • There was no chet powers it was just a name the publisher stuck on the sheet music when dino sold the song for $30 when he needed money for bail .

  • That's so cool! David Crosby had an amazing voice but he had trouble getting down to the low notes.
