I don't know...I think that this scene should have been left in. It adds depth to their relationship together. Especially to leading up to their momentous hug later on at the farmhouse, this scene showed Lois leap-of-faith in trusting Clark. The hug is not only seen now as an emotional-shoulder-to-cry-on for Lois because of Clark losing Lana, but also an emotional-thank-you. Lois believed in herself & Clark's trust to save Lana, to save Chloe, and reinforced her faith in Clark.

I love how her mood completely changes after he says "you have to trust me" because then she's like... "oh...well of course I do..." LOL
