The book "Conversations with God" pretty much came to me, and it changed my life in incredible ways. I never knew it became a movie! Makes me smile knowing it had this level of publicity.
This movie was great! Very inspiring! Makes me look at my life and the so called hardships that I went through and then to compare it with the mess he went through and where he is today, very inspiring.

Conversatons with God is a man made book! It is not inspired at all! The Bible on the other hand was written by 40 men who wrote 66 books through 1500 years of history that is amazingly coherent! I would encourage anyone who doesn't think the bible contains supernatural (prephetic) predictions to study the books of Daniel and revelation. Start simple with Daniel 2 and follow the rise of the five kingdoms (Babylon, Medo-Persia, Greece, Rome and eventually God's kingdom) then there are 100000 others.

This movie smells of modern spiritualism. It appears Biblical on the surface and everyone hurrahs, "Yes, God!" But this movie is more about a vague, impersonal concept of God which, honestly, is used to give a person what they want and is more self-directed than anything. The God of the Bible is a personal, living God who has acted in specific, proveable ways throughout history as documented in the Bible. In human form, his name is Jesus Christ and he surprasses being just a vague concept.
It is ironic (but not surprising) that these people do not understand the real meaning of their own scriptures and therefore, not understanding what they preach, they fail to practice it. They do not practice the Love that Christ taught. They do not demonstrate the Compassion that He lived. However, if you research Spiral Dynamics you will see that these people are at a certain level of consciousness, which is a part of the Perfect Plan and Divine Design. Amen.

I love how god spends all his miracles helping white middle aged men overcome situations that would lead to a mediocre or slightly substandard american life. God forbid he should help out with the AIDS crisis in africa or something like that.

They discover that a lot of things can't be explained by Church, so they create their own. But the more theories they create, the more they deviate from the dogma of the Church. They argue with the priest and clergymen. They become more and more radical and eventually, they become atheist.

Humans have risen to the top of the heap on this planet due to our brain, not our heart, and we have conquered problems and disease with our brain, not our heart, so we need to stop making important decisions about reality with our heart, and not our brain.
We destroy others out of greed and anger, instead of realizing the whole is greater than the sum of its parts. We do better working together than apart.
We destroy the planet from lack of knowledge. It is by understanding the ecosystem and how to work in harmony with it that we counter the indifference of those ignorant.
We live lives of fear and pain, because others "know" we are bad, because their god tells them so. We need to learn that our fellow humans are more important than gods.
i do agree with much of what you are saying. i am spiritual, not religious. in fact, those people who's "god told them we are bad" are what drove me away from religion..
but what i'm saying is that fear and anger are constructed within the mind, and while living outside the brain, they cannot exist. therefore, they exist because we've been trapped within our brains. no problem living with them, but we have lived for them.
Well yes, technically emotions do come from the brain. That wasn't my point though.
We need to understand and interact with our reality based on logic, reason, and evidence. We should believe things because facts support it, NOT because we want it to be true. We should make major decisions based on a great deal of thought, NOT on a great deal of emotion.
My initial point was that this movie strongly encourages people to decide with emotion, because it gives them a warm fuzzy. That's bad.
I understand, respect, and agree with what you're saying.
My point was nothing more than we have to learn to live WITH the brain, and use it in the way you just described, whereas we as a society have been living FOR the brain, as it has kept us captive.
The use of it as a tool for situations you have just described is perfect, but so many hardships are created from it that we need to get out of it every once in a while if we wish to grow. If we don't, that's "bad".

It not only gives detail of a beginning..but also tells us how we can be part of His Kingdom...through relationship...with His Son. Job 26:7 "He stretches out the north over empty space And hangs the earth on nothing." ~ Job understood the idea that the earth is suspended in space.
Job 26:10 "He described a circle upon the face of the waters, until the day and night come to an end." ~ Job also understood the movement of the sun and moon in circular patterns.
Look at Isaiah 40: 21-22
and Proverbs 8:27

well done Faeden. There is so much proof of divine (supernatural) involvement in the Bible. Just the mere fact that we cannot understand many things prove to us its divine origin. I would encourage anyone who doesn't think the bible contains supernatural (prephetic) predictions to study the books of Daniel and revelation. Start simple with Daniel 2 and follow the rise of the five kingdoms (Babylon, Medo-Persia, Greece, Rome and eventually God's kingdom) then there are 100000 others.

@Faeden (4) ..claims that God is the author, 2tim.3:16, 2.peter 1:21. over 3000 times does it say "thus saith the Lord" and similar phrases, so it certainly claims its authorship to be divine.
however, just because the Bible claims God as its author, does that mean He is? no, it doesnt. I could write you a letter telling you what to do and sign it "Love God" but that doesnt mean that God wrote it. we need more proof. so lets go to next point.. 3rd. Historical evidence support the bible! ...

@Faeden (5) no one has yet been able to identify a single historical mistake anywhere in the bible. that in itself is amazing! if man wrote it, we would certainly find historical errors after all these years -- but there are none. you can study more on this point. i can recomment books if u want. (but thats if you'r really searching for truth, cause u, u can always lead someone to evidence, but you cant make them believe it, guess it depends on how much you want to believe the bible is wrong...

The people who write the bible thought the earth was flat, you would have thought with all of Gods revelations they would at least know it was a sphere, the men who wrote the old and new testaments where riddled with mistakes.

@Cilya No one is disputing that the places in the bible did not exist and that the people did not exist, your missing the point, there is no proof that the magical or supernatural elements of it existed. There is no proof of that at all. I could write a story and claim supernatural things, but there would be no proof of supernatural things to people 2000 years down the line reading it.

the Bible is not just a single book but a compliation of 66 books written by some 40 different authors (men use by God to write His words down - like a painter, who paints a masterpeice, but uses a brush, its not the brush who decided what the picture was to look like, it was the painter) ...

I suggest you read one of the books before you pass judgment. Firstly the financial help this man recieved was well deserved, would you have the patience and time to sit there and just be with your thoughts to hear what God had to say? Mind you it has helped many people from all walks of life. Secondly our job is to create, God helps us as much as we can help ourselves to strive to find a cure for aids and help to shape the African community for the better.

You know how we call these kinds of men with such delusion in Hong Kong? We call them "free radical".
They discover that a lot of things can't be explained by Church, so they create their own. But the more theories they create, the more they deviate from the dogma of the Church. They argue with the priest and clergymen. They become more and more radical and eventually, they become atheist.
Free radical -- apart from chemical, we have a new meaning for it.

We destroy the planet from lack of knowledge. It is by understanding the ecosystem and how to work in harmony with it that we counter the indifference of those ignorant.

i do agree with much of what you are saying. i am spiritual, not religious. in fact, those people who's "god told them we are bad" are what drove me away from religion..
but what i'm saying is that fear and anger are constructed within the mind, and while living outside the brain, they cannot exist. therefore, they exist because we've been trapped within our brains. no problem living with them, but we have lived for them.

We need to understand and interact with our reality based on logic, reason, and evidence. We should believe things because facts support it, NOT because we want it to be true. We should make major decisions based on a great deal of thought, NOT on a great deal of emotion.
My initial point was that this movie strongly encourages people to decide with emotion, because it gives them a warm fuzzy. That's bad.

I understand, respect, and agree with what you're saying.
My point was nothing more than we have to learn to live WITH the brain, and use it in the way you just described, whereas we as a society have been living FOR the brain, as it has kept us captive.
The use of it as a tool for situations you have just described is perfect, but so many hardships are created from it that we need to get out of it every once in a while if we wish to grow. If we don't, that's "bad".

we overanalyze everything, many times creating realities in our own minds that stress us out, when they don't actually exist.
mark twain put it best when he said "I've had a great many troubles in my life, most of which never happened."
