is this their final concert? because ive seen another youtube clip by someone named bossjiji where they perform solid state survivor with the same dresses and with those weird people with the flags. i thought it was going to be in this concert, is it another? did they ever perform nice age in this late period, because i would really want to hear it
This was there final concert before they split in '83/'84. This concert was also released on cd as 'After Service'. Weird people with flags? wouldnt put it that way but yes, it does have something like that ;) They didnt perform nice age in this concert but check out 'YMO - Live At Budokan 1980 - Part 3'. Nice age is there! :]
I think you'll find the girls with flags were in the ymo film 'propaganda' which is basically the concert [above] but with a story line to it. Hard to describe fully but thats the jist of it. A young boy who is obsessed with ymo and has a ymo shrine [propaganda]
There was more video footage recorded than just what was on this "YMO Densetsu" video (excluding Propaganda which was on film, and probably on different dates). The NHK TV "YMO Special" was broadcast on 1983.12.31, featuring some of the same recordings as on this but also:
Solid State Survivor
Ishin Denshin (You've Got To Help Yourself)
Kimi ni Mune Kyun
It also shows David Palmer's entrance and their reappearance for the encore (Technopolis/Rydeen)
By any chance do you know if the footage of them playing "Limbo" has been aired before? I know it must have been filmed, since it was recorded and appeared on "Complete Service".
@Artstar: I'm not aware of any video recording of Limbo. Complete Service used recordings from different dates, it's likely they did not have video or film recording equipment on those nights.
absolutely mind blowing footage, what a true genius, sakamoto is, backed up by equally impressive musicianship of takahashi and hosono,i take my hat off to you sir !!!!
I can't stop watching these YMO videos! I read that they have done a few concerts as YMO or HAS, what do you think are their plans for the future? Any more concerts?:)
Hi Matt, thanks for your comments. Glad your enjoying them. Your correct about the HASYMO concerts. Mr sakamoto was a guest in there previous concerts (sketch show) in earlier 2000s. If you look at my recent uploads, all three got together and did a HASYMO concert as recent as 2007. Will be uploading more from that concert soon, including a welcome return of ymo's 'You've got to help yourself' amongst others :)
What happened? I think they still did great with the music at this concert, but it doesn't seem to have the energy. Did something big happen between Winter Live 82 and this concert? Also, what happened to the guitarist, the rhythm keyboards and the guy in the back who messed with everything?
I assume the better technology around that time (live sequencers, playback systems, lighting/visuals) infatuated YMO to rely on those things, rather than have a full band playing along with them. Even though I like watching stuff like "live 1980" I also very much like this completely different updated sound of YMO in '83. Plus, they were at their peak of their career in '83 and decided to end it there...these were farewell concerts.
I think ymo1965 could enlighten us on this matter :D
Thank you Artstar, but i am just an old ymo aficionado ;)
I only put these videos up for fans such as yourself and maybe a few new listeners who might stumble on my channel (Has happened quite a lot). That said, as with anything, technology changed (look no Moog III here) although if you look at my recent HASYMO postings, they're still using there old 'Sequential Circuits' :) They had more yen to spend here and revamped the whole experience! & keep up with the 'times' at the same time :)
I saw propaganda movie on DVD at the store the other day. Although you can't watch it technically. wait for the blu-ray comes out.

Oh and a nice touch with this recent 2007 concert, some musicians even don ymo's original shirts with the 'ymo' logo all over it :)

:) thats cool. I'm going to Japan soon, so hopefully I can see something YMO related or just buy any DVD/CD of theirs I can! Thanks!

The connection from Technopolis to Rydeen is the most excellent part of all their lives that they'd ever shown.
