Hi, I came across your channel because I wound up looking at videos on the Bates method by way of contact cleaning videos I clicked on. I decided to check out your channel because the couple of videos I saw of yours I thought were very well done and I found your voice quite soothing. This video I thought was funny. It's true, though. You should do a segment of videos on tips on being green. :o)
Thanks for commenting! Videos on being green are definitely a good idea. Trouble is, there are so many good ideas for videos. And it's easy to rant about the problems - more challenging to propose solutions - as with everything!
I'm up to about remembering to take my reusable bags to the market about 63% of the time. There is even a sign at the rack where the cars are returned saying, "Did you leave your reusable bag in your car?"
Anywho, we now keep our reusable bags in the car. Maybe you can keep your plastic containers in the car?
Yes, I also prefer the fresh meat, but sometimes for convenience and lack of time I buy the packaged one and then, just like you say, I've got tons of garbage to throw away. Your video made me think - I'm going to try and avoid packaging from now. I really enjoyed listening to you. 5 stars
Packaging really is a terribly abused luxury - and yes, we can recycle, but recycling just uses up huge amounts of energy - and actually making all the various bits of the packaging in the 1st place does too - and having it shipped to the same place as the food that's to go into it.... So it seems to me that no packaging definitely is best =)
Given your tone and my being american, I found it quite humorous that you said "patronize" the store. Pat-tronize to my ear is to condescend, whereas pay-tronize is to use their services (spelled phonetically of course, since they are homographs). Do you not have to clean your recycling? We're supposed to, so if it dripped it'd be just water.
Wow, that's interesting - I am not aware of any such distinction being made in Britain. We say pay-tron, but I never heard pay-tronise. And yes, we're supposed to rinse the bottles, but maybe I don't do it thoroughly enough!
I'd rather turn vegetarian than go down to the plastics recycle bin, reach up and try to shove dripping items of plastic into a hole that's too small for them while they drip on me, knowing that there isn't even a plastics recycling facility in this country and everything either gets binned anyway, or exported. (ooh, I think I'm still ranting!)
It was actually meant to be a video response to the featured Friends of the Earth video, but they weren't accepting responses apparently. It's about the difficulty of reducing the amount of rubbish we generate, to avoid all the landfill. 'ungettable' lol
Ah, I love the peppers:) Curry sounds good too:) Bringing your own bags is a great way to help the world:) You could clean the containers up really well and use them to plant some raddishes and start them indoors for next season:)
local organic farm delivery rules! we have one here (homestead growers), but we have to arrange getting it. in the summer can pick up less than a mile away.
the amt of packaging drives me nuts too. but i get a lot of stuff in bulk now, so i take my own containers. i find some organics are CHEAPER this way than conventional items.
It is a shame, all that packaging that just pollutes the environment more. I must confess that I do tend to buy things packed separately because during school time I live in a one-woman household (more or less) and if things are packed, they are longer fresh.
If you give your opinion to a minion, you may end up looking like an onion.. :p Now, put one packet inside the other.. saves space, if not the environment! :D I have a cotton bag that says Sweden on it.. or possibly Sverige.. I should make a response video really, but I don't know where the darn bag is.. :)

Next time you buy meat there, simply say, "put it in these" and hand them the empty ones.
YOu are soooo correct on this packaging thing!!!
FSTOPDR 2 years ago
That's an excellent idea. Only thing is, I never remember to take my empties back with me - but at least I manage to take my own bags.

how do you do it without swearing? I'm usually furious.

Well I do swear, but I try to present my better side in public!

Thank you - I don't often manage to speak for so long without hesitating. I sometimes try vlog style just for the exercise.

I know what you mean. If us beggars started to be more determinded we might make them change their mind.

Oh, I see. If you post yours on YouTube, send me a link, won't you?
HappyHag 3 years ago
No, not really.
But we were watching a bunch of videos about effective and un-effective enviromental rants.
Because we're making some soon.

I'm going to rant a bit too =)

You're right. It doesn't look like there's enough room in your garden for you to raise your own beef cattle. :)
I'm vegetarian, so maybe this is a dumb idea, but couldn't you buy a whole lot of meat and freeze it? That would make it worth a trip to the butcher.
breathead 4 years ago
I'm sure you're right there, Breathead. Or I could turn vegetarian!

I do use cotton shopping bags too though. ;)
