my ultimate dream is to fly to an island like midway, raise one of these babies from the ocean, restore it on the island, then fly it back to the mainland
Just a guess. I'd say the guy in the white shirt is either a co-owner of the aircraft or the Flight Base Operator or someone like that. Most definitely not a vagrant! I've flown in to one or two airports in my time. Never even heard of vagrants on the tarmac.
Also the "vagrant" could have possibly been a good friend and/or an aircraft owner himself. VMF214Boyington is just joking about that.
While I agree that one shouldn't touch any property that is not theirs, we humans when examining something interesting have a tendency to want to touch, as well as look. Usually a brief touch, just to get the feeling. I have an old car, and at car shows folks just seem to want to touch it. If they're female and attractive, I just might allow it. :) Nice plane, nice vid.
That's so annoying. If I had been that guy, I would have said, "Oh, I'm sorry - I'm in your shot. Let me stand out of the way." Still, it's a great video nonetheless.
Nice Video, Those are the markings of Ira Kepford VF17 "Jolly Roger" CO Tommy Blackburn, AKA blackburns irregulars, They do nice work at Fghter Rebuilders!!!!
Why is it that there always has to be someone touching the airplane. Usually that person is some sort of dumb ass. I can see if you are on fire watch. But the guy does not have an extinguisher. I hate it when there is always that guy or kid that stands there and has to be in the photo. Hey dude. get your own airplane
I dunno...that guy leaning on the wing doesn't look like he's doing any harm. Probably a friend of the pilot; I don't know too many guys who would let just anybody lean on their plane.
Tough startup...sure would be nice to have some 130 octane in the tanks...
so why didn't that guy by the wing get out of the way? and why was he leaning on the wing? that would have really ticked me off if i was trying to start. i prob would have told him to fuck off!
yeah, a bit tacky of him to keep standing there like that - at least he was a little helpful and told the pilot it was "wet" on the port side. you could hear the fuel dropping on the concrete.
It's one that's been painted to match his famous Corsair. I remember reading in Air Classics a few years ago an article about this plane. They were doing engine tests, and the plane was painted all white except for the "29" and the Jolly Roger on the cowling. The article stated they were going to paint it to look like Kepford's plane.
Oil pools in the lowers cylinders and you have to turns engine over for a few revolutions to blow the oil into the exaust or it creates an abnormaly high compression rate which would damage cylinders on start-up.
Vintage Corsairs took a little more effort to start without modern elect. starters.
there is an old legend that an f4u-1c corsair crashed landed in san francisto bay but a frfiend and i salvaged the plane and the 20mm cannon fired and we hit the deck for 5 minutes.
Anyone need to get spanked by a 6foot propellar lol

Skydiving is the closest I'll get to owning my own plane. Just out of curiosity. How much does a toy like that cost to buy, insure, & feed/maintain?
neomuttley 1 year ago
To buy around1.6 mil to maintain depends on how much you fly it. probably about 50,000 a year if you fly a little.
VMF214Boyington 1 year ago
OUCH... Like I said. I'll never own one :-(.

From the cockpit view, it looks like if you drop your keys on the floor...they are pretty much gone.

how in the world can you see when moving on the ground?
jimmythekiddd 2 years ago
That's why tail dragers s turn when they taxi.
VMF214Boyington 2 years ago
Yep the taxi wiggle...

canopy has to be open and you lean your head to the side.. Tail draggers are kinda tough to taxi.

Is this Ira Kepford's original F4U-1A or is it a remake like the B-17G named "909"?
