  • SO HAPPY TO WATCH THIS !!!!!QAAAAAAAAAAAAAA

    Briliant movie!!!!!!!!aaaaaaaaa excited!!!

  • Any chance of getting five suns on youtube?

  • I got viking blood in me, but im really fascinated about the mayans !

    Thanks for the upload

  • I haven't seen this since I was in 6th grade (which was a long time ago). Seeing this video gave me so much memories.

  • should i watch this before reading Popol Vuh?

  • @Whoamiii111

It may help present an artistic background to the book, as this art was taken from Mayan sources (painted depictions of the Popol Vuh, on pottery).

But this animation only covers the first two of the four books of the Popol Vuh, of which there are many translations.

I hope you enjoy both the animation and the book.

  • @Whoamiii111

    I recommend reading it.

  • I saw this in my art and architecture of mesoamerica course at U of Michigan - so happy to find it again!

  • ew dirty cannibals

  • We're studying this in class!! Thumbs up ahora!

  • I remember seeing this when I was a kid and being fascinated and scared to death at the same time...

  • its funny this is myth , but the bible is also a myth ????

the bible is made by a white ppl and popol vuh is made indian mayans . what side are you ???

  • @tiburon69 A myth is a traditional or legendary story, usually concerning some being or hero or event, with or without a determinable basis of fact or a natural explanation, especially one that is concerned with deities or demigods and explains some practice, rite, or phenomenon of nature.

And the film was officially described as the Maya creation myth.

But a film describing the story of creation in the biblical book of Genesis would scarcely not be touted as a myth, although that's what it is

  • @sejembalm just because thats what YOU think it is doesn't mean every one else does also. You know whats a myth everyone can agree on, evolution...

  • @tiburon69 The Bible was not written by White people. It was originally written by the Hebrews, who are related to Arabs. The Bible was then tampered with by other people, including White people.

  • @tiburon69 Actually, the Bible was written by Middle Easterns.

  • @tiburon69 you'll never understood anything about other cultures ..because you have in front of you the " racism".. a skin problem ..

  • @tiburon69 the bible was not made by white people wtf?

  • This story is so beautiful, I have been looking for this forever!!!!

  • to see the Book of Revelations

of the Popol Vuh as a feature-length film, google:

    THE MYTH OF TIME

  • to see the Book of Revelations

of the Popol Vuh as a feature-length film:

  • Could the way this was presented be any more boring? This reminds me of somethng I was forced to watch when I was a kid. This guys voice makes Ben Stein's sound like an upbeat radio DJ.

  • This is the story of CREATION! As told by the Quiche' Maya. It's a Genesis. The first super people. Before modern humans...

  • @Ixtemoc

Examine how this is similar and different compared to the other creation myths.

  • not only is this idilyc but also kick ass!!

  • my teacher's "good friend" made this video. :O

we just watched it like two days ago. i just dont really understand the meaning of it.

  • It odd to me that any kind of christian would believe this was fixed fro their religion.

  • The Mayans were great sailors whose ships traveling from the western ocean to eastern and southern seas to the north in remotest ages. This is verbatim from Volume I of the Ramayana. Probably the easiest thing is to think that the most famous historian of ancient India was a consummate liar, but ... How could a character to know that 2400 years ago there was a civilization called Maya?

  • The wooden ppl are actually dwarfs. If you research it, u will find out that they use2 think that dwarfs werent thankful to their gods since dwarfs only worked on artistic things like pots, writings, and etc.

  • Thanks for posting these. I recorded it off PBS back in the day and still have the VHS here somewhere. Sure would like to get a DVD copy!

  • Its available on DVD from Berkeley Media but very pricey. They also have it in Spanish (no less expensive though).

  • @JustSw00n Very cool! Thanks for the info.

  • @JustSw00n

Popol Vuh from Berkeley Media: $295 (?!?)

Perhaps you can get it through an inter-library loan, like how I got the VHS tape.

  • muy bueno y completo pero esta en ingles :(

  • Hay un version en español tambien.

  • can't get more native than this!

  • this is so cool ! well done! THANKS ONE HELL OF A LOT!! :)

  • It would be possible to translate this story to the spanish? It's unbelievle that this histori it's detailed in englisht, but not in spanish. In spanish I have only found two shorts videos about popol vuh

  • @elvelodeisisbarcelon If you know Spanish, why don't you translate. The Internet community benefits whenever someone gives something in return for what they have taken.

  • @amateurVideoForYou

It's a pity, but my english knowlegdge is very low. I can read and write, but my comprehension... it's very very difficult for me translate

  • I wish they taught this in the churches nowadays!

  • that's cool! i agree! :)

  • I just finished rewatching this version of the 'Popol Vuh".

I, too, taped it on VHS when it was broadcast on PBS. I love this story and the soundtrack. The animations from images on Maya pottery are spectacular. I wish it were available on DVD

  • you should read the book of the popol vuh it is very interesting. plus look up on youtube the underwold caves of the mayans. they belilieved it led to another world.

  • native pride here

  • this is cool

  • Its good

  • amazing!

  • this is my favorite of the 2000 Presidential debates, Gore definitely won this debate as far as I'm concerned.

  • wait a min, Wait a min, WAIT A MIN! so the spanish and all oppressors that came after are the wodden people then, right??i mean its the only conclusion

  • No those were Spaniards.

The 'wooden people' were a failed attempt of making people to worship the gods of creation, but it did not work out, so they were destroyed in a flood.

  • yea the spanish failed to worship any gods either...they just thoguht of themselves...maybe they shoulda been washed away in a flood...

  • Much better than the Judeo-Christian creation myth.

  • The stories originated from the same oroginal source -- the Hebrew story of the creation. Over thousands of years, the story gets modified, but they have the same original source.

  • Wrong, the Hindu, Sumerian, babylonian, and Egyptian myths are far older. The Jews probably copied theirs from Egypt or Babylon

  • @Stonewalljackson7 we can not explain how Valmiki, the famous Indian historian, author of the Ramayana, in the fourth century BC C., can say:

The Maya, from their land of birth in the east, as missionaries of religion and knowledge, first went to Burma and there instructed the Nagas. From Burma were the Deccan, in India, where religion and knowledge brought to Babylon and Egypt. This is verbatim from Volume I of the Ramayana.

  • @sejembalm LOL

  • @sejembalm notice the wooden people is compare to the Nephilim &The Igigi

of the bible & sumerian text''

  • @lureyes1 the spanosh not even in these story ' thse like 10,000 bc, if am correct

cause the fload story is inhere like that story of noah & the annunaky what are you talkin about? you sound lame i think the spanish are the demons of our era'

  • Yes, the images were taken from Mayan pottery and reproduced in watercolor and ink animation for this film. Very good job of an interesting story.

  • I've been addicted to this animation for years!!!

just want to make sure everybody knows the original drawings are from Mayan ceramics

  • Listen to your elders. Thanks for posting.

  • long live GUATEMALAAAAAAAAA

  • @maxestuardo Long live Guatemala and its Mayan culture!!! This is coming from a Salvadoran.

  • And they paid BIG TIME for their lack of vision.

  • We're all paying BIG TIME for our lack of vision....

    Are we ever gonna learn?

Awesome production according to the original items...

  • @sejembalm

I am of European descent, and I am sorry if any of my ancestors hurt your ancestors at any point in the past. I hope that you will accept my apology.

  • @homsar678

No need to apologize. My ancestors are all from Norway, Scotland and Iceland.

This is not a protest video, but rather an illustration of the Maya creation myth and the story of the heroic exploits of Hunter and Jaguar-Deer.

Compare the Maya's creation myths and religion to those of the other peoples of the world.

I hope you enjoyed the video.

  • The Wooden People = no appreciation of what they have been given. They squander their resources and cannot see the important things around them. No heart, no resolve. They do not appreciate the Creator. They are seen as inferior people.

  • my father (a mayan of guatemala) participate in this movie haha!!!!!

  • What part did your father play?

A voice actor? One of the animators?

    Thank your father for me.

  • Thanks. My father write a part of the dialogues and helps in the investigation.

  • very fascinating, thanks for posting!

  • The whole sacrifice thing was part of the initiation where man accept the existence of the underworld and hence willingly abandons this life.

Sadly, this simply teaching has been hampered by those who promote a life style of wealth accumulation by exploitation (e.g. corporate and organised religion..)

    Long live the feathered serpent!

  • these are my niggas

  • thank you for posting this... we are alive, well and strong. IX CHEL

  • Thank you thank you for posting this. I still watch my copy on Vhs its been my fave since I was kid and watch it every few months. Thanks Thanks Thanks. :)

"Lord of Xibalba One death and seven deaths...Sacrifice yourself in turn so that we may see it..."

  • My pleasure. My VHS recording of this (recorded from TV in the late 1980s on PBS) became corrupted and unviewable. I was able to obtain a VHS of this through an inter-library loan, and I did not have to endure any trials, such as spending an evening in the House of Knives. Good thing, too.

  • Did you REALLY think that "I" could resist commenting on something as cool as "Knife Owl"!?!?! lol

    To the Illuminati...

    The OwlMan Cometh! 8:55

  • The story of our creation.
