I heard or read somewhere that Peter Brock actually gave him a lift from the crash site back the pits. They don't make them like PB anymore that's for sure.
I tried to park in Queen street yesterday and when I returned to my vehicle after watching a movie I found $10,000 worth of parking tickets under my wipers :-(
There was never any in car camera footage of this lap because some one from channel 7 forgot to press the record button on the race cam recorder. That lap would have been great to see from inside the car.
Hi Toothlessinwapping, Dicky actually drove 3 of his team Sierras in the 1988 race and only managed second - swapping cars was just the rules of the day - personally I am glad its over but Brocky would have only achieved 7 of his 9 Bathurst wins in the current structure, and for me that's too close to some of the other guys to knock off the king of the mountain title (BTW I love Brocky & Dicky the same)
the biggest problem with the falcons was the new rear end watts linkage .. they had all sorts of problems setting them up... that set up was never intended for high speed racing.. a nightmare for sure.
when you look back you can see how badly they handled compared to todays cars... that fact is that car was a death trap and an accident waiting to happen.. it was all over the track...
@yianni3510 - Qualifying lap, mate. Trying a lot harder than a race lap. But yeah, these were basically road cars with smokin' hot engines and big wheels and tyres.
No they did not rebuild THIS car overnight... Ross Palmer purchased a Falcon XE from one of the privateer teams at Bathurst that weekend; who in turn - ran a Commodore next day with Ford signage all over it...! The engine that came out of the crashed car was not affected at all, in fact that engine and drive train was used again at Bathurst in 1984.
champion effort - teh rebuild involved transferring motor, drive train and brakes and repaint of donor vehicle. Disagrred then - and do now - you have one car and one only - no car hopping allowed.

Really Yianni3510, you cant compare todays cars to those. Shit loads of differences and improvements. Its the same with anything old and new.
