Well, good experience for you. i have to say starting out as a scratchbuilder really help me in this way as it's not really obvious what will fly well and what won't until you build some things yourself. It teaches you a lot about planes that definitely has helped me as I moved onto nicer balsa aerobats.

Way too windy for the first flight... and it looks like you have too much elevator as well, making it very twitchy.
