Why is she now wearing a Static strap, and the Static Mat doesn't look like its grounded since i can see the connector by her right hand. That alone can blow any Motherboard and screw any repair lol.
This is a really bad idea!! When it finally needs to be fixed by a pro, they will have to charge extra as this often can cause all sorts of damage (sometimes beyond being worth it to fix eg; new mobo because u had no temp control etc and the chips slid off causing power to ground short that cooked a track in between layers 3 and 4) It will only work a short time at best, why bother? Most pros charge 80$ and give it back to u the next day with a warrantee!!
The only problem with repairing it this way is that it's a very temporary fix, and the PS3 will break faster each time you do it. You're better off repairing it, selling it right after, and buying a new one.
Heat gun repair is horrible and was started by Gilisky. Heat gun is no good and should never be done, reflow takes the right equipment. What I hate about this, is when people cannot fix it they up selling a warped board on Ebay that cannot be repaired because the board is damage. If you used a heat gun on your PS3, don't sell it on Ebay, just trash it because reball is impossible on a warped board.
My phat PS3 has many 1000's of hours of operating time. I've gotten my money from it. By the time I fixed it using the heat gun, I'd already bought a slim PS3 to replace it. The cost point to "properly" repair an old PS3 is almost enough to just buy another one. I'm not going to pay what shops want so they can "fix" it, but I am willing to try it myself, since it already doesn't work anyway. I'm sure many shops will just heat gun it anyway for a quick buck.
I don't disagree with you that the heat gun isn't the most elegant solution, but if you take your time and use common sense, it may just wake up that tired machine. I suppose you could compare it to an old car. It's going to begin to fail, no matter what you do, so you keep fixing and replacing parts until it's just not worth it any more.
My board was nice and straight when I got finished. No warping. And I paid $0 for a little while more with my ol' fat PS3.
I performed this fix on my RLOD PS3 a few days ago. I sicked the kids on it for many hours over the weekend and it is still going strong.
I've heard that in many cases it will fail again within a couple months. I'd like to know if anyone knows the reason? Is it the quality of the repair that was done, or a sign of further failure?

Ha ha, I'm a dickhead I did not realize the solder (with an L) actually begins to liquefy. I would have went ahead and just heated the thing up on whatever angle was comfortable....lol, yes I'm a dickhead
NO NO NO yo dont just rotate the rear and pull it up ! theres a "pecker" latch by the back right screw which you simply press with a slim screwdriver to release. You can just yank it off though. I find some of these recordings are very believable but only due to the good quality now available to any one.
the bottom of my ps3 , got hit with a screwdriver by some idiot, it lefted a mark, and i have ylod, i bet some part fell off, can someone reply to tell me what to do for a repair?
good video,buuutt...... 5:20 you dont want to hold the motherboard at an angle while you have a heat gun it,you can warp it very easily. Also, make sure you let the board cool down for at least 20-25 minutes before you even touch it. Gilksy has a better tutorial.
Great video, but unfortunately this did not fix my PS3 after all. Any suggestions on how to get my disk out of the blu-ray player? Im about ready to smash it open and buy a new one.
turn off your ps3 with the back "on/off" button.... then turn it "on" again using the back button while pressing the "Eject" button at the same time... keep pressing until it ejects your disk. Hope it helps, it worked for me
Power off the PS3 at the rear switch. Press and hold the eject button. Turn on PS3, and continue holding eject button and the disc should eject. Yes, it works on RLOD and YLOD PS3s.
Excellent step-by-step instructions. She is easy to understand and the visuals explained what was needed. The only recommendation I have is after doing this, I had some trouble with figuring out all the variously sized screws. Remember to document where these things came from and this video is the best I could find to help solve this issue. Subscribed.
I am fixing my ps3 at this moment just so i can take out the disk that's inside (60gb), now does someone know how i can transfer all my data from the memory on the side of the ps3 I don't want to delete anything, a link to a good video would be appreciated.
@Alexschneider21 I have a fat ps3. I got it just over 5 years ago. I just got the ylod and I don't have anything covering it. I think ur semi-right, the fat ones do last longer, but it can happen to any ps3.
In my opinion this is what happened : The problem ones are the old ones 40gb and 60b which also have the PS2 processor on them making you able to play those games too. For me the YLOD came after the big security patch , sony propably made some always on security thing which takes some processing power from the PS3. Well combine that with games and the shit over heats and crashes. Im not sure about this but this is how i think it goes.
I just open my ps3 to vacuum clean it and after I put it together I turn it on and the red and yellow light came up, before was fine, so a look you tube for videos and I decide to fix it my self, I went best buy and bough a dynex thermal compound and I apply it and now it works fine and it run even cooler, just one thing I don't know about the heat gun I didn't used i don't really thing you need to, so far no problems.:)
the best way to repair a ps3 is to buy a new ps3 system and make sure it is the fat one. Those never get the ylod....unless you are a fucktard imbecile who covers his ps3 and let it over heat.
WRONG!!!! you do not spread the compound !!! you have to put it on the center of the CPU and GPU then press the heat sink on it to get the air bubbles out. really a bad tutorial.. lol.. hot chick by the way..
@ShatteredRoseX i owned a ps3 (FAT 40gb) for 5+ years without any problems. yesterday it ylod( after 5 mins of working). now i have 3 solutions. 1) fix it like that. 2) find somewhere 3.55 new one. 3) upgrade my pc:) tomorrow i'll try this.
This information extended the life of my PS3! Thanks so much for putting this important information online for people like me who want to extend the life of something, instead of just settling for buying something new!
@weekendswithme im not sure about the gamesaves but the trophies is on the PSN so as long as you use the same username on the new ps3 you ´re still gonna have all your trophies
I don't how stupid you have to be to use heat gun, without any temp control on electronic component which are temp sensitive. Max temp for RSX is 240 degr. C
Heat Gun should be used to remove paint from wall.
Awesome video! now i don't have to spend almost 200 bucks to get a crappy repair that mite not last a month, I love sony but damn... next gen gaming is getting hella expensive!
LOL....do this at your OWN risk. This method has proven to be extremely FLAWED. That heat-gun has a minimum temp of 500 degrees Fahrenheit and this prevention of localized thermal expansion is all but a theory. The fact is spreading 500f degree heat on sensitive chips can cause permanent damage. I have 20 years experience fixing PCBs and using a heatgun is like using a jackhammer to crack a walnut. Good luck to those that are buying this.
@DwyaneWadeCounty i ended up fixing my ps3.. the problem was i was using a hair dryer and i had it on low heat and didnt heat those 2 metal squares for long enough.. i did it again but on full heat and heated the square fuckers up for like 5 mins each until they like almost started to melt.. then i let it cool, put some of the thermal paste on and it worked :) good luck
@r3fuse thank you for the good, and for sharing your expirience. what I meant was should one forget about ever reassembling the PS3 and just play games with the PS3 dissembled? my thought is that that can help the PS3 to stay cool.
if your gonna do this, its recomended to add Artic Silver thermal paste. do no apply ceramiic based thermal paste, shit is trash and can not handle the PS3 demands. apply artic silver
She definitely had me hooked on different repair kits and takes with great instructions and structure of how it should be done without damaging any particular parts! Gotta say, I'm a fan officially! Love 'em! Keep up the amazing work you do!!! And she is quite the beauty to add~ =)
im afraid 2 go do all tat shit in case i really make a balls of me playstation will sony help or is there an easier way of doin this, or a professional?
I did what I was supposed to do with the fix, but it broke again after 30 minutes. I just noticed that the heat from my heat gun is 300-500. I didn't want to do it too hot, since it says get it around 400.......should I do it again with the higher temperature?
I don't understand one thing, can't we just add a tad more solder onto it?
Sometimes a few days, sometimes months, and rarely years. Its proven that a reflow does not fully fix the main problem which is the solder. On average most reflows only last 3 months. And often the more you do it the shorter amount of time it lasts the next time you do it.
Have a professional reball your ps3. Its worth the money and is much more reliable. Also if you do a reflow yourself you drastically lower the success rates of a reball for ps3.
Why is she now wearing a Static strap, and the Static Mat doesn't look like its grounded since i can see the connector by her right hand. That alone can blow any Motherboard and screw any repair lol.

@SoullessMadness How long did your PS3 last? Mine is a launch 60GB, and it lasted for a full 4 years with heavy use.

if your gonna do this, its recomended to add Artic Silver thermal paste. do no apply ceramiic based thermal paste, shit is trash and can not handle the PS3 demands. apply artic silver

She definitely had me hooked on different repair kits and takes with great instructions and structure of how it should be done without damaging any particular parts! Gotta say, I'm a fan officially! Love 'em! Keep up the amazing work you do!!! And she is quite the beauty to add~ =)

CrimsonFyre 1 month ago
I wouldn't have the patience to do this.

how long will this repair last???
hollywoodcashmoney29 1 month ago
@hollywoodcashmoney29
