Low Energy Nuclear Reactions are tricky things to develop and is probably why development was stopped back then as there just was not the technical capabilities to actual research this subject. Even if there was a nuclear fusion and even if it is releasing radiation, what is it detecting? That counter can only detect protons and gamma rays. It would not be able to detect neutrons.

The energy it takes to cause the particles to fuse is greater than the energy that is outputted by the reaction of the fusion. @BlackStarx3 er, in Edison's time, there was no scientifically valid reason why a lightbulb could not be constructed. cold fusion is another matter. there is no way that this device would be able to fuse any atoms together to create heavier elements. because the nucleus of atoms have a positive charge, they repel each other. the only way to fuze two atoms together is to get them close enough so that the strong force takes over. there just isn't enough energy to do this at low temperatures.

Cold fusion cannot exist. The minimum temperature needed to produce fusion events per the Lawson Criterion is somewhere above 4.5E7 kelvin for deuterium and tritium (which assumes you could even get your hands on that, even something low-level like tritium is highly regulated by law) and above 40E7 kelvin for deuterium alone. That is way the hell and gone from "cold."

Just because we haven't crack the shell on cold fussion yet doesnt mean its impossible. It took Edison 1000-10,000 prototypes to perfect the American industrialized light bulb...

Look, solar fusion works because the localized mass of all that hydrogen creates gravity, which generates heat, density, and confinement time. Fusion reactor systems that are in testing use magnetic compression, which uses a magnetic field instead of a gravity well. Fusion cannot be cold. Even if you could create a "cold" starter, the result is gonna be hellaciously HOT.
@Chunkboi Its been shown that a fusion reaction can occur at super low temperature. Basically at super low temp, the particles become indistinct and coalesce (kinda like a bose-einstein condensate) and given the right conditions, fuse. It called something like muon assisted fusion. So fusion is not just within the realm of the super hot and super dense. This makes it possible to have fusion at room temp.

Fusion reactions, like fission, take advantage of something called the mass defect, which is a difference in mass between the reactant nuclei and the product nuclei. In fission and fusion, there's a slight decrease in mass in these reactions. This mass is converted to energy through the mass-energy equivalence principle (dE=dmc^2). What I want to see is something that is self-sustaining for >24h, with a net energy output.
@Chunkboi I'm not familiar with it myself, so I probably explained it wrong. But you can get fusion by brute force like in the atom bomb, or the Sun. Or you can use an indirect method by taking advantage of the properties of particles to achieve fusion. I was looking up a few stuff on "cold fusion" and found a article that talked about how before Pons and Fleischman's claim, as early as the early 1900's, they had already achieved fusion at low temp. It was an unsustainable reaction though.
@Judas1of12 To further elaborate, think of the properties of a Bose-Einstein condensate. The fluid is composed of particles, but the particles all have the same quantum state. You can't tell one particle from the next, and it can be said that the whole fluid is a "super" particle. They are no longer bound by the Pauli-exclusion principle which says that a particle must have distinct quantum states, and can't occupy the same space. In a superfluid, they particles do occupy the same space.

Surely you would achieve greater density, but once you actually try to get it to fuse, you evaporate the condensate. Bose-Einstein condensates and superfluids like Helium-4 are very very cold...and (it's been a while since I read the book on this), still have their electrons. Plasmas are hot to the point where electrons are thrown off.

You "cannot" prove a negative :) Just because it has NOT been proven and documented does not mean it "cannot" be done. This is a very unscientific attitude to have. Of course we should be skeptical. But you should not be assertive. Even if a cold fusion event was "hellaciously" hot relatively speaking, it could be manageable in small enough quantities. We just do not know... yet.

@Chunkboi a "net" energy field would defy classical physics laws. Even a hydrogen bomb does not have a "net" energy, it is expending the energy contained in the atoms and causing a chain reaction. Semantics? Maybe. Unscientific? OK maybe not. Our normal "experience" is that fusion is hot and most people think of hot when they think of fusion. That does not restrict what fusion can be, only our current definition. I agree, we need hard numbers. Science demands that. But we have to remain open.

The energy it takes to cause the particles to fuse is greater than the energy that is outputted by the reaction of the fusion. @BlackStarx3 er, in Edison's time, there was no scientifically valid reason why a lightbulb could not be constructed. cold fusion is another matter. there is no way that this device would be able to fuse any atoms together to create heavier elements. because the nucleus of atoms have a positive charge, they repel each other. the only way to fuze two atoms together is to get them close enough so that the strong force takes over. there just isn't enough energy to do this at low temperatures.

Cold fusion cannot exist. The minimum temperature needed to produce fusion events per the Lawson Criterion is somewhere above 4.5E7 kelvin for deuterium and tritium (which assumes you could even get your hands on that, even something low-level like tritium is highly regulated by law) and above 40E7 kelvin for deuterium alone. That is way the hell and gone from "cold."

@Chunkboi hopefully u personally calculated this all out and not read/watch it from some diluted opinion of how to achieve cold fusion. to say it cannot exist is restricting the flow of progression in science.... a majority of the discoveries made were seen as "impossible" at one point. Just because we haven't crack the shell on cold fussion yet doesnt mean its impossible. It took Edison 1000-10,000 prototypes to perfect the American industrialized light bulb...

Look, solar fusion works because the localized mass of all that hydrogen creates gravity, which generates heat, density, and confinement time. Fusion reactor systems that are in testing use magnetic compression, which uses a magnetic field instead of a gravity well. Fusion cannot be cold. Even if you could create a "cold" starter, the result is gonna be hellaciously HOT.

@Chunkboi Its been shown that a fusion reaction can occur at super low temperature. Basically at super low temp, the particles become indistinct and coalesce (kinda like a bose-einstein condensate) and given the right conditions, fuse. It called something like muon assisted fusion. So fusion is not just within the realm of the super hot and super dense. This makes it possible to have fusion at room temp.

The fusion event itself, though, is extremely hot Even if you manage to nudge the particles together under these mystery conditions such that you do not require an input of thermal energy, you will still have hot fusion due to the energy output.

Fusion reactions, like fission, take advantage of something called the mass defect, which is a difference in mass between the reactant nuclei and the product nuclei. In fission and fusion, there's a slight decrease in mass in these reactions. This mass is converted to energy through the mass-energy equivalence principle (dE=dmc^2). What I want to see is something that is self-sustaining for >24h, with a net energy output.

@Chunkboi I'm not familiar with it myself, so I probably explained it wrong. But you can get fusion by brute force like in the atom bomb, or the Sun. Or you can use an indirect method by taking advantage of the properties of particles to achieve fusion. I was looking up a few stuff on "cold fusion" and found a article that talked about how before Pons and Fleischman's claim, as early as the early 1900's, they had already achieved fusion at low temp. It was an unsustainable reaction though.

@Judas1of12 To further elaborate, think of the properties of a Bose-Einstein condensate. The fluid is composed of particles, but the particles all have the same quantum state. You can't tell one particle from the next, and it can be said that the whole fluid is a "super" particle. They are no longer bound by the Pauli-exclusion principle which says that a particle must have distinct quantum states, and can't occupy the same space. In a superfluid, they particles do occupy the same space.

Surely you would achieve greater density, but once you actually try to get it to fuse, you evaporate the condensate. Bose-Einstein condensates and superfluids like Helium-4 are very very cold...and (it's been a while since I read the book on this), still have their electrons. Plasmas are hot to the point where electrons are thrown off.

You "cannot" prove a negative :) Just because it has NOT been proven and documented does not mean it "cannot" be done. This is a very unscientific attitude to have. Of course we should be skeptical. But you should not be assertive. Even if a cold fusion event was "hellaciously" hot relatively speaking, it could be manageable in small enough quantities. We just do not know... yet.

@Chunkboi a "net" energy field would defy classical physics laws. Even a hydrogen bomb does not have a "net" energy, it is expending the energy contained in the atoms and causing a chain reaction. Semantics? Maybe. Unscientific? OK maybe not. Our normal "experience" is that fusion is hot and most people think of hot when they think of fusion. That does not restrict what fusion can be, only our current definition. I agree, we need hard numbers. Science demands that. But we have to remain open.

So were planes, etc. I agree that extraordinary claims require proof. But accepting the POTENTIAL has always been required to create new technologies. That is all I ask. And they have had sporadic successes, not unlike the manhatten project which had even fewer proponents than "cold fusion" or whatever it is.

Impressive reaction being video-ed, regardless of whether or not it really fits the label "cold fusion". I would be curious to see an EM meter near the chamber to see what kind of electromagnetic emissions are coming out of this and how far away they are still detected (and maybe the RF and microwave bands too). It would be interesting to see what the above/below unity index is too and how hot/cold the reaction is in degrees.

Fusion will not occur without deuterium oxide...heavy water. They don't sell it on Ebay. Trying to get fusion out of ordinary water would be akin to trying to get infrared lazer light out of red Koolaid.
1 in 6400 hydrogen atoms is deuterium, which is 1 part in 3200 by weight. you ain't got enough here for fusion, and what you have is too far diluted...and if you had fusion You release oxygen and helium gas and with this much light emitted, You'd be dead from the neutrons.
