This is exactly why I found it really difficult to relate to and enjoy the later storylines with Kirsty and Kane. You don't just forget that someone did that. And it was SO unrealistic. I have two sisters, and I'm much more likely to kill someone who hurt them then I am to bloody marry them. It would never happen. Especially not if you were witness to the whole ordeal like Kirsty was.
All they showed was Kane kissing Danni and Danni telling him to "stop it" and the next thing Danni is sulking......and we're to believe Danni was "assaulted" so badly like she thought it was the end of the world??

There is a clip that shows after Fisher went off at him, he went back in to Fisher and said that he really didn't mean to hurt her, he genuinely thought she wanted it. She even stayed in Summer Bay and refused to go away with Kane (per DVD Hearts Divided) because of what it would do to Dani. Kirsty was very thoughtful, yet Dani only thought about herself and didn't appreciate the SACRIFICE Kirsty was making for her. I know who was the 'bad sister'and it certainly was not Kirsty.

I have no doubt Dani was raped and she had my sympathies for that. I'm not disputing that she was raped, she clearly was. And she clearly did not want it. Well i only ever saw the story line from when kirsty started secretly seeing kane, and i was 11 at the time so i never actually knew what kane was supposed to have done and i was quite irritaed at how everyone was acting so hostile to him. I dont really care either way, this show is not an accurate depiction of reality, and i really hated both those characters anyway.
Yes, she did. She was using him to make Will jealous. Check out earlier episodes. And no may mean no, but Dani never actually said 'no'. Dani admitted this herself.
Kane and Dani actually looked cute together when they first kissed in this video.
I think if Kane had actually went to jail for raping Dani instead of getting away with it and then come out of jail a reformed character, getting with Kirsty after that then their relationhip would be easier to accept and understand.
He raped her which is why it was then so unbelievable that Kirsty would have then fallen in love and had a child with him. What is worse is that, thanks to the writers, many viewers actually supported their relationship and thought Dani and the other Sutherlands were being unfair by trying to keep them apart. Sick.
Kane shouldn't have to pay for that mistake forever. He also did a lot of good things, like save Shelley's life, & rescued the Sutherlands when they fell down that mineshaft. It really pisses me off how no one wants to remember all the good things he did. Yeah, the story's a bit far-fetched, but the show is about redemption of 'baddies'. That is what Home and Away is about. Irene, Nathan, Aden, its ALL ABOUT redemption & giving people second chances. As for Dani, she was always a spoiled brat.
Kane never did pay for the rape, that is the point. he got away with it. Rape is a serious issue and suggesting that everyone, including Dani should have just forgotten about it because Kane pulled a snake off Shelly is one of the reasons I hated the storyline. I work with rape victims, many of whom never fully recover from the experience and so the idea of anyone viewing a rapist as a 'good guy' is repellent.
True, he didn't go to jail like he should have. However from the harassment and hounding he got form the town, & no one ever suffered that much, not even armed robber Nathan Roberts or Dodge, I believe that made up for it. Writing the good Kane did by merely pulling a Snake off Shelley because it doesn't fit your need to be unforgiving, to me, is repellent. As someone who works with victims, you should know that forgiveness is the key, for victim & attacker. The attacker has a life sentence too.
For many rape victims, the key is seeing the person who hurt them be punished for their crime. Forgiveness is something that many never manage to attain as they are frankly far too scared and messed up to ever get to that point. Anger is what many of them feel and continue to feel. As for the idea of the unpunished rapist living a life sentence, I suggest you actually read up as the subject as I have no idea how you have come to such a conclusion.

Agreed. Kane gave 2 people life sentences. Dani; and himself. He will have to live with knowing what he did, every day for the rest of his life. I remember this storyline quite clearly, a few weeks later Kirsty got lost with Kane in the bush, or something and then they got together, I thought it was rearly far fetched at the time. I stopped watching H&A about 2003. This must be around 2001 I guess.

Yep, he did change. And eventually moved on and accepted Kirsty and Kane, but it took her long enough, even though she went to counselling and had apparently left at peace then. Only to change her mind later and chuck a tanty. The irony of Kirsty supposedly being 'selfish' when Dani kissed her own uni lecturer and cheated on Scott, and then lied about it to police. Kirsty and kane when through hell because of Dani's self-centredness. Dani should have apologised to KK for being an obstacle.

Um, because they fell in love and TRULY loved each other! You cannot help who you love, honey. Kirsty was not a bad sister. She even stayed in Summer Bay and refused to go away with Kane (per DVD Hearts Divided) because of what it would do to Dani. Kirsty was very thoughtful, yet Dani only thought about herself and didn't appreciate the SACRIFICE Kirsty was making for her. I know who was the 'bad sister'and it certainly was not Kirsty.

I have no doubt Dani was raped and she had my sympathies for that. I'm not disputing that she was raped, she clearly was. And she clearly did not want it. I was just clarifying for a couple of people below who said that she said no, thats all. I wasn't disputing that he raped her. To answer your question, I don't know. I think he still would have raped her. And he still would have been wrong. The difference to me; is in the intent. I.e maliciousness, or really not meaning to rape her.

Well i only ever saw the story line from when kirsty started secretly seeing kane, and i was 11 at the time so i never actually knew what kane was supposed to have done and i was quite irritaed at how everyone was acting so hostile to him. I dont really care either way, this show is not an accurate depiction of reality, and i really hated both those characters anyway.

What is worse is that, thanks to the writers, many viewers actually supported their relationship and thought Dani and the other Sutherlands were being unfair by trying to keep them apart. Sick.

Kane shouldn't have to pay for that mistake forever. He also did a lot of good things, like save Shelley's life, & rescued the Sutherlands when they fell down that mineshaft. It really pisses me off how no one wants to remember all the good things he did. Yeah, the story's a bit far-fetched, but the show is about redemption of 'baddies'. That is what Home and Away is about. Irene, Nathan, Aden, its ALL ABOUT redemption & giving people second chances. As for Dani, she was always a spoiled brat.

Kane never did pay for the rape, that is the point. he got away with it. Rape is a serious issue and suggesting that everyone, including Dani should have just forgotten about it because Kane pulled a snake off Shelly is one of the reasons I hated the storyline. I work with rape victims, many of whom never fully recover from the experience and so the idea of anyone viewing a rapist as a 'good guy' is repellent.

True, he didn't go to jail like he should have. However from the harassment and hounding he got form the town, & no one ever suffered that much, not even armed robber Nathan Roberts or Dodge, I believe that made up for it. Writing the good Kane did by merely pulling a Snake off Shelley because it doesn't fit your need to be unforgiving, to me, is repellent. As someone who works with victims, you should know that forgiveness is the key, for victim & attacker. The attacker has a life sentence too.

For many rape victims, the key is seeing the person who hurt them be punished for their crime. Forgiveness is something that many never manage to attain as they are frankly far too scared and messed up to ever get to that point. Anger is what many of them feel and continue to feel. As for the idea of the unpunished rapist living a life sentence, I suggest you actually read up as the subject as I have no idea how you have come to such a conclusion.

But, according to what he said MANY times if you had watched, he honestly truly thought she wanted it. It was still rape, yes, but he didn't 'lie', at all! He misinterpretted. Agreed. Kane gave 2 people life sentences. Dani; and himself. He will have to live with knowing what he did, every day for the rest of his life.
