  • i mean, i know i'm no Picasso but, do you think my music would sound better if i sidechained? i have a couple of songs on my channel. i only post them as i can be sure no one will steal them because nobody wants them. i just have them posted for my own educational purposes. Should I Sidechain? or is there a problem elsewhere? thank you i subbed you!!

  • It is really rare to see someone like you to unselfishly share the knowledge and also to sound great. I also watched the video you made from where you and the other artists started and it's pretty much self explanatory how iron will and strong persistence can lead to a greater cause.

  • THANK YOU ! finally a good tutorial easy to understand :)

  • Can this be used in Rap & HipHop Beats in any way??

  • i find that fl's compressors does not compress my sounds hard enough it there another plugin/ Fx i can use?

  • Awesome, I've been wanting to learn how to do this; many thanks~

  • this was very helpful :) first tutorial i found that doesnt use the wide mixer!! that really pisses me off :) but seriously was very helpful :)

  • @DaNorthernLight will then GET UP TO SPEED! DON'T USE THAT OLD-AND-BUSTED PEAK CONTROLLER!

  • really good tutorial!! Thanks!!! Got one question.Lets say i want to sidechain all the instuments to the kick, can you? thanks so much!

  • @djjireh Yep, you can sidechain as many instruments to the kick as you want :)

  • @zirconst Thanks a lot man. This method is awesome!!

Tell me how do i sidechain pads for instance where i don't want to hear the kick? How do i mute it then with this method...? Thx so much

  • there's actually two way of sidechaining in FL. One with the Fruity limiter, other with the fruity peak controller

  • @zirconst when i do the side chaining my patterns involving the sidechain go silent and i dont know how to fix it plz help

  • @Splurgeyourheadoff Just turn the ratio up and threshold down on the Limiter.

  • Dude I write hardstyle and the kicks are 3 layers which are on individual channels. Should I compress only the sub bass layer or all 3?

  • Hey Zirconst,

    Thanks for your tut.

Question though: When I route it the way you say, my kick goes through the bass EQ (which I added on the bass track in the mixer) which I of course don´t want. Am I doing something wrong or am I right? Best regards, Charles

  • Without doubt one of the best tutorials I have ever watched! So direct and to the point. The mount of expert tutorials I see that start going off track about beginner info is unbelievable!

Was very informative aswell! I was aware of the new sidechaining method but was not aware that it can be that effective! Was getting sick and tired of having a ridiculous amount of peak controllers open all over the place!

  • This is very useful, thanks for showing it!!

  • can u make a tutorial on the LFO Speed controller i really need it for dubstep

  • is there any way u can have the sidechain instrument lets say the kick to be silent like you could with the old way ?

  • Excellent tutorial. Love your music, too. Cheers.

  • amazing video!! thanks a lot!

  • What's the big difference between sidechaining using your method, peak controller or using the fruity love philter?

  • @AdamDesjardins Side chaining is compression, peak controller is actually modifying whatever signal in a direct or indirect relationship to whatever is controlling it.

  • Best tutorial ever, I didn't have to keep pausing to just keep up! Thanks! Now I can get back to producing! I Thanks again Zirconst. You've got my subscription! Keep up the great work, awesome music btw ^_^

  • This method is useful but maybe you can help me out with a little problem I am having or at least have an answer for it. For example, in some of the songs i have made i like to tweak the 3xOsc with maximus, reverb, and so on in the mixer slot..

so my question is how can i make it so the kick doesn't run through maximus and the parametric eq? because its making the kick sound really bad.

  • Thanks so much! I can sidechain now!

  • Is there an easy way to do this in Samplitude Music Studio that you know of?

  • i use gross beat for side chaining less hassle

  • ps i usualy use side chain for pads and samples that start on a snare

  • *vst where you select the length of each syllable but im not good @ programing pm me if your intrested while ur dointhat check out my stuff

  • can you make a new vocal synthesiser because fl 9s sucks and i finally learn how to use a vocoder and my douche bag friend breaks the efing mic and i need some kind of modulator for my vocoder think you can help i got an idea for a new vocals

  • -]. If ya still answering questions on this video, I would like to ask is sidechaining on a Drum n bass track a wise thing? .[-

  • @TEMPHUiBIS Well, overdoing it with the kick/bass can make it sound too rough due to the fast rhythm of the kick, but sometimes I sidechain a bit!

  • superb demonstration and explaination. You took you time through it and I didn't find myself constantly having to rewind the vid to keep up. 5/5

    well taught!

  • Wow, thanks Andrew! I would have continued the peak controller method had I not seen this!

  • Couldn't you put the compressor in the Master and it would work for every channel? or do you not wanna do that?

  • @HYPNO5IS Nah you typically don't want to do that for sidechaining, because there are some sounds that you don't want to compress :-) I've heard some artists do it but it can sound really tacky.

  • @zirconst Yeah because I only sidechain some tracks, then it doesn't sidechain everything, then it sounds great

  • ah I wish I understood this, I wanna get as much knowledge for music as possible so I can make some good music

  • thanks zircon, time to use it at any new dance track :)

    very usefull

  • Cool. Thanks for the tut. Glad we can do this natively now.

  • WOW Incredible tutorial ! You are awesome! I can't stop to see what other tutorials you have =)

  • Thanks a lot. It's funny how most of the "side chain compression" vids on youtube don't even contain the use of compression. :P

  • awesomeee i didnt know about the right click menu i just sended the kiskc and just turn the knob all the way down and the sidechainning worked anyway

  • Strob by Deadmau5

    ;)

i'll stick ti peak controller or ableton compressor, this way robs mem

  • Nice one , i worked with the old sidechaining and few days ago it stopped working properly.I saw this video and i must say thanx alot :))))

  • You can do this in 8 too right?

  • @blackpanther6389 Nope - this is a new feature in FL9!

  • Thanks so much for this tutorial. Opened my eyes (and ears) for a few things. I'm still a bit lost with this version of FL.

  • thx mate :)

  • what's the song called of deadmau5 ?

  • @9121991 "Strobe" - I just grabbed the MIDI files for it online since I like the patterns. :)

  • DEADMAU5 OWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWNS!!! xD

  • The new sidechain method in FL9 is AWESOME!

  • Hah, thanks much. It's always a pain to get exactly the rhythm you want with the Peak Controller.

  • props!

  • somewhat to an extent... does this "sidechaining" method ... well lemme say this as a quesiton... what specifically (since i'm hard of listening I guss...) does sidechaining do? .3.

  • @NostalgiaInOAB Basically turns down the volume of one sound when another gets louder. Used especially in techno/dance/house for that thumping kick- sidechaining turns down other noises like synths/bass to give the kick drum 'room' in the sound.

Gives it that throbbing sound too.

  • @Kaburorne OH.. okay.. now it makes perfect sense... this method I should practice with then...I can never hear teh kick thump usually...I always have to turn down other sounds manually...

  • @NostalgiaInOAB He says exactly what it does in the video. Watch 0:25

  • @jontecool92

Yeah.... I mean I know now... I'm kinda hard of hearing and understanding sometimes.

  • @NostalgiaInOAB No problem ;>

  • Your deadmau5 example really makes it clear what it is that this does. It's hard to explain to someone without making a good example :)

  • This is one of the things that made me interested in getting FL9. Much more intuitive than the older method.

  • yeeeeeeaaaaaaaaa

  • this is helpful
