Personally i think field hockey is better than ice hockey but thats just because i play it.

From what i can see both ice hockey and field hockey are immensly skillfull :)

Most field hockey players may say that ice hockey is just violence but tbh field hockey does have its injuries but just behind the refs back. :P

violence is just part of ice hockey so there isnt a point for knocking it. Same for ice hockey players calling field hockey a "girls sport".

I'm a bit player in both (I'm not sure if I play field hockey legally...I am a lefty goalie [I can't stop anything if I have the stick in my right hand, as all 5-hole shots go in as I play an ice hockey butterfly style]) and personally, each has there own feel. I feel ice hockey is a game more built on grit and determination, stemming a lot from the physical element of the game, whereas field hockey is a more controlled, strategic game. Both are equally skilled.

what do you think.. Women hockey is the best sport you can find for the netherlands. Football is the most slowest sport i have ever seen and more than 45 minits in a game you can find them on the ground crying..

Where I'm from we play Hockey on ice with skates at full speed and full contact, a puck, and we carry bigger sticks in more ways than one. I've only ever heard that this was played by girls as they're the only ones who rarely play it over here. By the way, maybe my eyes deceive me but It looks as though they're playing with candy canes. Just don't call this "hockey" without putting in the word F-I-E-L-D to precede it.

Hockey IS field hockey; one of the most ancient team games as opposed to "codified 7 ice hockey rules, based on the rules of field hockey". More importantly; a far more global game. @6JCD Just to be bitchy...field hocket started out as a men's sport. We don't wear all the padding ice hockey does. I would like to think, in many ways, this is harder. We run farther. We have the liability of getting bruised/concussed/what-have-yo­u. Just because you think ice hockey is the *men's* sport, don't preach. I'm being hypocritical, but don't jump down my throat.

"padding"? Why do you think they wear it? Field hockey isn't physical. "run farther" i suppose that prancing on grass in shoes is more difficult than high speed skating. You mention bruises and concussions but in Hockey on ice those things are in the nature of the game as well as losing teeth frequently. I could go on for a while. @marcellin20a Not quite! The "coloured" British players are born British - there are many Polynesian players won are not 1st generation who play for NZ. This is due to the economic climate in these small countries who move to NZ for a job & hence bolster your national teams. may I also add your schools still have the old British empire structure (sport is a "tool" ) which I believe is still the best educational system to have. You also really only have rugby, cricket & netball as sports.

The same form of migration wave also occurred in the Uk where a quater of a million afo-Caribbeans migrated to the Uk due to skill shortages in the 1950-1960s.
