look. I'm 13. I could beat this guy in a debate any day. there are so many holes in his argument, its not even funny. A REPUBLICAN saying we need government intervention? Come on.
The economy works for the ultra rich because the federal reserve gives them free money. I didn’t get a penny from Uncle Ben. But I do have to pay Uncle Sam to support criminals, illegal war and suppress those wanting freedom around the world.
Liar's loans had an impact, but with proper taxation in place to pay for this journey into insanity the Bush administration started us on it could have gone on for years. To say that cutting taxes while increasing spending on all fronts hasn't had a major negative impact is mind boggling. To say that liar's loans are the only concern is an ignorant statement and i would expect more out Bill Black based on his past opinions. It makes me think he's a bit to caught up in his own schtick.
Well taxes are important. So its not merely a subset. But giivng the rich tax breaks it encourages them to invest in the FIRE sector or in places like China.
This guy Bill Black is a joke. He wants to talk about being ignorant of facts? The crash in 36 and 37 took place in an environment with nations lining up and poised on the brink of a second world war. It wasn't fixed by going to war. It wasn't fixed by men shooting and killing each other. It was fixed by the 90% tax rate on the rich that was used to drive the war effort. The key here? "It was fixed by the 90% tax rate on the rich." Liar's loans? He's just walking off into left field.
Wow. Bill Black is all over the place. "The debt's great for our economy and isn't an issue. We don't need to tax the rich appropriately like we used to, that's not the problem." , Meanwhile, "That's the problem Paul. Our economy doesn't work. The rich are getting insanely rich and the people aren't getting anything." AHEM, WE ARE GETTING LESS THAN WE USED TO.
This guy is just swinging for the fences trying to make Obama look bad, I agree with everything Obama said here.
Rumsfeld and Cheney saw their opportunity in 1999 and partied like it. Dayme!! B'ain'tit word data pair off disspooted Preysighdentcies cain serve two soakiton up to oligarchical praeterprivileged dangle bots and beyond with no coming back only a tietanning uff belts bellow? Yeserr. This guy produces spurious arguements all the way, never for a moment think outside the box of status quo brinkteetering thinktinkering and agriculture.
This is how the American Revolution started. Taxation without representation. Our children are not being represented, and they are the ones who will eventually bear the burden of our problems.
Painful restructuring is the only answer and the longer it is avoided the greater the cost. THIS IS NOT AN OPINION THIS IS PURE MATHEMATICS.
@6:12 - Ahh the 1936 debacle. When a market crashes a lot of bad investment has to be liquidated. You are going to suffer pain no matter what. When you artificially inflate things, the pain is deepened and prolonged. So if you decide to deepen and prolong the pain for a decade, and then quickly readjust it will be painful.
But ever quick readjust was followed by immediate long term gains. See 1938 to start of war, see 1921, see 1981 etc.
"Our recession has nothing to do with debt". Sure it does Bill, let me explain it to you.
You require continual debt to subsist at current levels. If that debt limit is all of a sudden cut off, you'd have to do giant cuts. Lots of government workers fired. Lots of unhappy people.
To continue you need people wiling to lend to you. People, countries, other corporations etc. If they slow or stop, you are in big trouble. Some are slowing, some are stopping. You are in big trouble.
Some people have a problem with regulation because we have LOTS of it. Literally libraries full of books. And we just get more. Does the world get better? Not really. Is there less we understand and more we have to rely on lawyers (now with special disciplines because one sub sector is too much for anyone to know). And I thought we didn't like lawyers?
So why are we doing things that aren't making things better, just more muddy and complex?
@LouieArrighi Regulations pt2 - There's plenty of regulations on the books that aren't even used. This creates a lot of "gotcha" situations as well. Every day each one of us breaks enough innane rules to either require fines or go to jail. Mostly without bad intent. So if someone with resources wants to see you put away, there's plenty of legal loopholes to do so.
We also don't enforce any fraud laws on all the white collar crime for example. So if you ignore laws, how does making more help?
@LouieArrighi Regulations pt2 - Lastly it benefits the rich to have more laws. Who has the resources to hire the army of lawyers it needs to make sure every i is dotted and t is crossed? Who has the resources to find obscure holes in laws too complex for all but a few to understand? And who has the power to hide holes when it's generally "ok" for them to be so insanely complex. The rich benefit greatly from this.
I thought you weren't fans of giving the rich an advantage?
For the racists out there, try to put that away for a while, put the birther bullshit away for a while, and really listen to the speech. Just see if you don’t agree with how we are supposed to treat each other in this country. If you don’t agree with him on the character of this country. If you don’t believe in shared sacrifice. If you don’t believe in investing in infrastructure and in the future.
@demmmmm1 Obama's a lier. I can't believe one word that comes out of his mouth. In all seriousness, he's just as bad as Bush was! Bush should have been and still should be put on trial for war crimes. Obama should be watched very closely seeing how he can't be trusted!
Excellent report. Bush, I mean, Reagan, I mean, Clinton, I mean Obama -- is just a complete liar. He's performed so much worse than even my low expectations of him, I'm sorry I voted for him and won't again.
@bofors7715 You're a joke, You think all actual news is funded by Soros only because you listen to right wing news funded by the rest of the corporations. Whenever someone talks sense you blame Soros YOU ARE A FUCKEN LUNATIC, BTW hows Glenn Beck leaving Fox going for you huh dipshit?

THEN MOVES ONTO THAT LAND
Then they say they need to FLATTEN MOR LAND FOR SECURITY PURPOSES!
How many medical staff did you kill today, Israel?
How many European journalists and peace protesters?
How many children died in their cots or poisoned by your chemical weapons?
How much white phosphorus today?
Did you attack a civilian neighbourhood today?
WE ALL KNOW YOU WILL SAY "IT'S NOT OUR FAULT"

Taxes on the wealthy are not too high, they are too low. The 400 wealthiest INDIVIDUALS in America have more of the wealth than the bottom 55%.
