Ok here is the truth. Most Police dogs are really good, if they indicate a person then there is a reason. If a person smoked a cannabis joint yesterday, but had no drugs on them when they were confronted by the dog, the dog would still indicate them as it can still smell the smoke in their clothes from the day before. Hence the majority of people not having drugs on their person.
Dogs DO see differences in skin color but it's not rasism the way we like to call it. It's just simply fear of something unknown - a person that doesn't look like a human "should" in their eyes. A dog brought up by white people would react with suspicion to a black person and vice versa.
This is easily countered by letting the dog meet people with different skin color in a positive manner.

Ok here is the truth. Most Police dogs are really good, if they indicate a person then there is a reason. If a person smoked a cannabis joint yesterday, but had no drugs on them when they were confronted by the dog, the dog would still indicate them as it can still smell the smoke in their clothes from the day before. Hence the majority of people not having drugs on their person.

Dogs DO see differences in skin color but it's not rasism the way we like to call it. It's just simply fear of something unknown - a person that doesn't look like a human "should" in their eyes. A dog brought up by white people would react with suspicion to a black person and vice versa.
This is easily countered by letting the dog meet people with different skin color in a positive manner.

This is stupid. Yes the dogs can, will, and do become "racially biased" but for perfectly understandable reasons. If the dog has helped in 20 drug busts and, say 15/20 of those contained Mexican gangs, the dog would likely regard ANY Mexican with suspicion. Not because the dog is racist but because that is what that particular dog has learned.

police dogs, in theory and in practice, work. They are introduced to different kind of drugs, and are given a toy or a treat if those drugs are found. Anyone can train their dogs to do that, provided they have the drugs the dogs will work with. Now i feel like making special dog food for my three dogs, getting some cereal.
