It is dangerous obviously but his skill mutes it. The real danger comes when an inexperienced climb gets to confident

I just read the story about Proft's climb. Personally, I can climb 7a+, 7b on a good day. I can not imagine to climb a route in this grade without a rope and i think it is crazy to free solo at the limit. However it is very impressive.

Osman and Reardon are allready dead, but they did not die climbing.

So maybe it is not as dangerous as it looks, but i would not do it.

@pennywise43 The danger of free solo climbing is overrated! Who did ever die free soloing?

Dan Osman died ropejumping, Wolfgang Güllich in a car accident, Michael Reardon drowned, John Bachar was found dead, nobody knows if he fell or.....

The idea of soloing is just soooo scary, much more then speeding in a car or beeing at the foot of a cliff when a wave comes. I do agree if you call it irresponsable, having kids and family.

@visionaryrock Quite a few have actually but not many well known free soloists like the ones you have named...only well known person that i can think of that that died doing it is Derek Hersey.

@BeepimajeepBeep If you're speeding in your car and loose focus, death is probable as well, but who is afraid of driving fast? Climbing up there, somewhere on a wall, is just against human nature. That makes it so scary. If you know your limits and check the rock first, you're on the save side, i guess. I give the climber a lot of credit for his ascent, i just do'nt think it's crazy or suicidal!

@scottfreeride Free Solo is a matter of life and death. Nobody must do it because he is crazy enough! You ignor your limits and you die. If a hold breaks you die. I do not know if it is worth the risk. I prefere to watch others doing it.

It's nice to hear good music, watching a climbing video.

Man I really appreciate the difficulty of what you do. However, I still think it is crazy. I love watching your videos but it scares me to death. I want to say climb safe but I know that really doesn't apply to you. So I will just say thanks for the video and keep pushing limit without loosing focus. You rock!
