@streethassled Your experience doesn't surprise me. I know two people who worked with Lou during his US & European tours in the 1980s. Both of them told me he's just a bag of dicks. He doesn't trust anybody and he surrounds himself with "yes men" to protect his fragile ego.
Saw Quine in 77 with Richard Hell & Voidoids in Leeds UK. Never heard of him before then, but he blew me away. He just owned the stage. Look out 'The Plan' to hear him at his tops. A one off - like Ives, his heart beat to a different drum.

Saw Quine playing with Matthew Sweet at the Stone Pony, Bigtop, early 90's. It was the last outside show of the year and they played (LOUD) till well after one in the morning. Quine was a freak, just incredible. One of my top three favorite shows ever.
I went to see lou reed at Brixton Academy in 84', it was magic but just made me think how old im getting!!!!!!!!!!. New sensations F.......... FANTASTIC1
I was at this show. A killer version of The Blue Mask was left off the video, along with Lou's comments after "Walk on The Wild Side" where he said, "I'll never get tired of playing this song. It has paid my rent for over ten years." I was a Quine convert after the first fifteen minutes. Most underappreciated guitarist ever.
I saw this tour in 1984 when I was at college at SUNY Fredonia. The band walked out and someone said of Robert Quine, "Who brought their grandfather?". Robert Quine then proceeded to blow us all away with his unbelievable guitar playing! Definitely one of the most underappreciated guitar players...
I got the tape of this show back in like '90 after I just started playing guitar. Quine just left me slack jawed. What a fearless approach! I've never seen anyone other than maybe Buddy Guy assault the fucking guitar like him. He was a real inspiration. OF course Lou was the one that made me think I could play and put poetry to music .The drummer tho, man what a rudimentary player and somebody should've taken the keyboardist aside and tell him TO NOT WEAR HAWAIIN SHIRTS IN PUBLIC.
@heartthink Cool, I met him once in front of the same Tower Records, 1991ish. I was speechless, and he said "Bob Quine, nice to meet ya!" I told him he was a big influence and he said: "You made my day, kid." I got his autograph. What a great guy, amazing musician.
Even in his most "average" period (81-84 my and personnal favourite, for the songs as well as for the accompanying personnel), Lou remains a complete freak.
A night with Lou Reed, at the bottom line club, greenwich village, with Quine,Saunders on bass, and Maher on drums is particularly awesome.Available on dvd...lol..Great post bakabana1966...:))
I remember seeing Lou around 87 or 88 and thinking, WOW! , who that guy on guitar? My first introduction to Robert Quine. What a talent. And what a sad way to leave this earth.

I met Quine once in front of Tower records in the Village. I said, "Are you Robert Quine?" and he said "yep".
It just doesn't get much deeper than that...
