did we learn NOTHING from the RENT movie? It flopped because most people had never heard of anyone in the cast, except for maybe Taye Diggs and Rosario Dawson. As wonderful as they are, if you use the broadway cast, no one will go see it. You need bigger names to get people in the theater. Unfortunately, for studios, that's the bottom line.

@babykitty00 It didn't flop because of the original cast members. It only flopped due to that horrible direction it went under. The actors had NOTHING to do with, I mean they did throw in Rosario Dawson for the "celebrity" aspect, but Chris Columbus did a horrible job trying to convey the message that Rent brings. I think It would've done WAY better if they had a different director. But I do agree that ITH is gonna need some big names, but I feel like the OBC would do just fine.

I almost died when I found out there was going to be a movie, I freaking loved the play. I was actually lucky enough to actually see Lin play Usnavi as well as meet some of the cast members. I was in an after school program and one of the teachers was dating one of the actresses and was able to score us tickets. Then I freaked out when one of best friends told me that her dad used to teach Lin Manuel. It wan't that much of a big deal, but still.

i think when casting for the movie they should really look for talented Latino actors, make it authentic.Some of the original cast members should reprise their roles in the movie.Rosie Perez or Sofia Vergara should be considered for the role of Daniela. Pooch Hall should be considered for Benny.Rick Gonzalez or Jay Hernandez or even Ramón Rodríguez should be considered for Grafitti Pete and the only other person I could see playing Sonny besides Robin De Jesus is Victor Rasuk.
