  • sounds like an octavia, with some pog, and an 808.

  • It's an Octavia. I know he had a a Voodoo Labs ProOctavia which for the money was a close version of the Tycbro-Octavia. But now that he has a lot of money, has great tone advice from Steve Jordan and Rene Martinez, and can get whatever he likes... I'm certain now he has the Roger Mayer Octavia.

  • i love holland and john mayer danke viel voxie2

  • Would you like some Shoarma with your weed mister mayer ?

I bet he was stoned at Picnic At The Park aswel, he was so happy !

  • haha for sure !!

  • i use a mini pog and a ts 808 and it is similar to this sound..

  • hahaha how high is he right now in this video???????

  • Agreed haha.

    Amsterdam being Amsterdam.

You can see he is alot more relaxed and expressive in his playing (not that he was never expressive).

Esp. in the i Don't Trust Myself solos!

  • Crud... and I just bought a Hendrix Dunlop Octavio because I was convinced that was the effect used. Now I'm gonna have to get somethin else!!! Lol, that Octavio does the job well

  • to correct you all.. its THE ELECTRO-HARMONIX MICRO SYNTH. no ands ifs or buts. thats what it is.

  • who cares about gear , i've the hendrix digitech and with soul you get tone , you 'll never gain soul with tones. Mayer is great ,at last for me.

  • I have a fulltone ultimate octave that works really great, too. it has the octave up feature and can replicate the sound in this intro really nicely, and it was only like $200.

  • I thought he uses a Roger Mayer Octavia like Hendrix and SRV.... I love John's sound, but he changes gear so much, it's impossible to keep up with. The POG and Octavia have the ability to "Octave up" which make it have that sweet sound. The Boss Octave "octaves down" one or two... I hated octave pedals cause I thought they all octaved down. Not the case... Now I want a Octavia or a Chicago Iron

  • what pedal is he using?? anyone know?

  • its called a pog

    its all just octaves

    gives it that organ sound

he uses it for in repair too

  • He said he was trying to make futuristic music before, like jazz when it debuted.

this song certainly is a song of that type. you can never bore of it.

    your a genius john.

  • those harmonics are practically alive. craaazy!!

  • John Mayer breaks down the barriers of musical snobbery. A true guitar hero!

  • because funk and soul aren't based on color

  • wow looks like hes doing the guitar. i love this man. amazing

  • How can a white guy be so funky and soulful? John Mayer blows my mind. This song is so fun to play in front of people.

  • That kicks ass how he threw in those Police lyrics @ 5:40...

  • That's 'Black Cat' he is playing at the begining from Janet Jackson's Rythm Nation Album!!

  • Not exactly, it sounds like it, I agree it sounds close.

    but it's not the same

  • You are an absolute moron, it's the exact same melody as Black Cat. It's not an insult to John that he clearly likes it and is inspired by the guitar riff in that song? He improvises on it but it's Black Cat, jeez.

  • Such an inspiration.

    Wow, John. Just wow.

    Thank you for your music.

  • thanks to whoever filmed this. love watching it

  • Dang thats a GRRREAT intro!

  • . . .

  • sickest outro ever

  • im a bigger fan of the outro, wow

  • WOW!!!! INSANE INTRO!!!!

  • sent shiver down my spine!!! love john mayer 4eva

  • A GUITAR GOD!

  • HOLY CRAP!

  • This intro is killing me man. Damn it!

    I want that. lol.

  • What an intro.
