I've fought so many xiba and natsu I can beat them with my eyes closed x.x pick someone else lol. Xiba = 8 way run to close distance then combo. Natsu = Patroklos anti-air critical edge ring out lol.

@hobbitboy666 Spammable moves are punishable moves. I have no problem dealing with spammers - I even find Taki er- Natsu spammers airly easy most times. Don't say the game sucks just because you ail at it lol. Get better and you'll enjoy it more.
@hobbitboy666 If you want a tactic vs Xiba, use 8-way run moves when he uses his long range pokes as the pokes usually have slow recovery. Look out for things like this if you want to win.

Well for the history of my gaming with Soul Calibur, it goes all the way back to Soul Blade/Edge on the Playstation. I remember getting it from my dad and we used to play all the time. Now towards Soul Calibur, I didn't get much with the 1st one but the 2nd on up (til 5) I played alot of. I loved 3 overall and with the updates they've done is real impressive and Max, your Siegfried is very formidable from what i've seen, I wouldn't mind going against you as Taki (or her protoge') someday
Fact is I love to play online.... but I kept finding MASSIVE LAG, noobs spamming same combos and noobs that at the end of the match, while loosing, left to keep a good win loss ratio.
The game is actually awesome and I love the fact anyone can choose his style and customize a character.... but... the community was pretty absent and cocky....
So.... I used to like this game, but if SC5 got the same problems....
From what I played of SC5, the thing that made me hate it was the removal of the passive GI(Guard Impact) so dumb to remove it, especially now that online is good. Dumb mistake on Namco's part I believe.

the only thing i hate about soul calibur is the guest characters. They make them so bad. Link was just bad in Sc2 and seeing ezio, which i am a huge assassin's creed fan, he seems to be in the low tier like with every guest character. Vader was the only guest that i seen that was high tier

My first soul calibur was 2 like most for Link. but I got 3 and that became my favorite. The series I have followed very much. Ill never forget my first tournament too. it was SC2 and I played nightmare, I got to quarter finals and lost to a talim. I was about 13-14 at the time. and I trained by going into survival on very hard, my furthest level is 56. I dont like 4 at all, it never measured up for me.
I've been playing since Soul Blade on the Playstation, I picked Siegfried and never looked back. Well, except in Soul Calibur 2 where they made him one of Nightmare's costumes.

I had a friend bring over a dreamcast and soul calibur 1 when I was younger don't remember much of it though. I remember having a shit load of friends over at my house and a ps2 and playing soul calibur 2 until like 4 in the morning each of us taking turns during matches. Soul calibur 3 was the first one I personally bought and between the gameplay I had learned to love and the absolutely amazing chronicles of the sword it played it constantly.
@IceDemonTouya I got soul calibur 4 as one of the first games on my xbox. I had a friend close by that didnt really like fighting games but he was more than happy to play it and we spent at least 2 to 3 months just going to each others houses and playing matches endlessly.
i got (the best) soul calibur 2 and i liked it didnt play sc3 but i played soul calibur 4 and was disappointed when they split seigfried and nightmare i was so used to playing nightmare from sc2 that i tried to do moves that each seigfried and nightmare from sc4 did not have
I got Soul Calibur 3 back in the day, had a lot of fun with that. My friend ended up buying SC4, and I didn't enjoy that as much. I'd really like to pick this game up soon.

Never touched the first games or 3. I loved 2 because of Link, but I wasn't really into fighting games back then. My friends and I picked up 4, and we played the shit out of that game! It's because of the create a character mode. We made a created cast that ended up overshadowing the original. Having Kilik as the Pope, and Yun Seong as Jesus made the fights so much more hilarious and memorable. Pretty sure 4 was the most fun I've had with a fighting game, or at least the fondest memories.
I played a craptop of Soul Edge, the first Soul game. Back then, it was essentially Tekken with swords, but the story mode kept me coming back. I then played a small amount Soul Calibur 2 for the Linkage. Picked up SC4 several months ago for 20 bucks due to it having Darth Vader. Recently, through seeing your videos, I've decided I wanted to get a better player in both SC and UMvC3. So you'll be seeing me in the comments a lot answering whatever questions you ask.
I played SC 1, 2, and 4. Skipped 3 due to it being a PS2 exclusive. I loved SC4 just because I could finally play against human opponents (my friends eventually got sick of playing me because I kept winning).
Played alot of SC, SC2, and SC4. skipped 3 entirely for no known reason. Between me and my friends SC2 remains a favorite of ours. My main has been Yoshimitsu since the original SC, as I've always been inclined to pick unorthodox characters. I have a question for you max, what fight stick do you use? I've recently bought alot of fighting games and am looking to step up my game. I am considering the madcatz tournament edition for street fighter.
Played the hell out of Soul Edge, SC and SC2, especially SC2. Didn't like 3 because it felt like a step backward, and 4 was even more so. Was unhappy because SC3 and 4 changed characters a lot too much. To me as well SC2 was the best in the series. Played almost everyone in the game. Mainstreamed Nightmare until people started reading him too much so then I started Taki and Xianghua, then Ivy. Loved Ivy!!!
I'm really excited about Soul Calibur 5. Its looking really neat, and just nowing that it is faster brings me back to Soul Calibur 2 time. And all those new mechanic changes are making this game more attractive.
not sure if you answered it already, but still curious as to why you didn't stick to SC4 when it was out. i felt the create/mod a character options were nearly the same as this iteration, yet you still flipped out when you found out about color saturation and selecting individual pieces to color. plus the netcode was pretty good from what i remember.
The game had air control (I call it DI since I've played a lot of smash bros) in Soul Calibur 2 too, and I'm pretty sure they had immediate ground techs too, but I'm not too sure.
If you are going to play Siegfried a lot, think we can see some Create a Soul characters using Siegfried Style. I'm sure everyone would love to see you fight as Doctor Doom or Strider using one of Siegfried's swords online

I've never played any of the Soul Calibur games, but I really wanna get 5 now since its the newest of the Soul Calibur franchise and I think that this game series looks amazingly badass, I missed out on 4 when it had came out and never got around to buying it so when I heard 5 was coming I decided to wait, hopefully can get it today.
Max I just want to point out that on souledge on the playstation you had that air recovery in there too. Also there was a meter in that that allowed you to do supers but at the cost of your weapon's health. So super moves are not really new to the soul games :) play some soul edge max its a brilliant game.
I never owned the first soul cal, So i always played it in arcades. Now people think im crazy when i use a stick with this game but i cant help it ive played this series so much in arcades (skipped 3 since it was not). I finaly got 2 on gamecube and even then i couldnt for lack of stick. And as for 4 i loved soul calibur 4, however i started to nic-pic it and fell off. And all i gotta say for this one is - Perfect. Thank you Namco, cant wait for tekken tag now.
soul calibur 1 and 2 were my greatest loves in the series, so much unlike any other fighter and so easy to pick up, didn't touch 3, and i played 4 for a long time and i loved the character creation more than anything else especially to make characters with styles i liked but hated the characters themselves e.g. talim. 5 looks to be the best of the originals with the creation of 4 so i'm excited!
I loved SC2 so much, I played it on all consoles and everything. Learned Heihachi Spawn and Link. That was one of my favorite fighting games. I never played it again after that though until this one lol.
I would really appreciate you explaining Guard Impacting and Soul Gauge. I main Tira and she has my favorite move called Grim Reaper, it's a GI and I don't know how to do that :/
7. Customizing - This is where I'm concerned because SC3 was awesome with it. Then SCIV removed somethings and now SCV is back with a "better" engine for it. I don't know if it is just me but I'm at 80% with collecting the items and it just looks like there is next to nothing when it comes to costumes this time around. Oh - and you can't make your own assassin. WTH? :(
Other than that the game is awesome. The online is so freakin' smooth and some of the battles are just insane fun!!
@ArthasXfrost Sorry if it felt like I was ranting. Didn't mean to. ;p I just figured I would share my experience with SCV and to get feedback from other SCV players. What better place than Max's channel. :)
(I.E. Someone small and fast can dish out damage that of Astaroth or Nightmare)
5. *Spoiler* Three of the six unlockable characters are Edge Masters. (The only difference with them is their Critical Edge. There is no reason that three EM should be in this game.)
6. Story Mode - I will admit the voice acting has gotten better for English for the story, but it doesn't feel like a story mode. The CG movies, which little we have received, are just stunning. But there is really nothing to it.
started out on soul calibur 2 for ps2 with nightmare being my go to character then moved into three but didnt play alot of it to have a good character then i got four and found i was best with kilik style and zasalamel and found that i stuck with a staff fighting style in 5 and a secondary in lexia or however her names spelledbut i was mainly familiar with two and four

I entered the SC series back in SC2, but I actually never really got into it. SC3 had TONS of single-player content and was actually the entry that really got me into SC, when SC4 came out and I finally got a PS3, I was sorely disappointed. Everything was soooo much slower and sluggish. It felt terrible. It felt like the game was trying to keep up with me instead of the other way round.
My experience with the Soul Calibur games is limited to renting them and having more fun customizing silly characters than actually learning how to fight. It's just not my kind of game, even though I am enjoying watching the videos of others play it right now- I have no urge to buy it, personally. The customization is about the only thing tempting me and it makes me excited in knowing that Capcom wants more customization in their future games, the ones I do like to play.

i first played sc2 on the gamecube. mained link and raphael and on the xbox used spawn, raphael, and mitsurugi. then i played sc1 that was on the xbl market place..but they didnt have raphael ;(...then i played sc4 and wrecked so many lobbies with raphael..now i play on the 360 with raphael and im just starting to pick up the devil jin style...overall soul calibur is the best at what they do

Never touched the first games or 3. I loved 2 because of Link, but I wasn't really into fighting games back then. My friends and I picked up 4, and we played the shit out of that game! It's because of the create a character mode. We made a created cast that ended up overshadowing the original. Having Kilik as the Pope, and Yun Seong as Jesus made the fights so much more hilarious and memorable. Pretty sure 4 was the most fun I've had with a fighting game, or at least the fondest memories.

I played a craptop of Soul Edge, the first Soul game. Back then, it was essentially Tekken with swords, but the story mode kept me coming back. I then played a small amount Soul Calibur 2 for the Linkage. Picked up SC4 several months ago for 20 bucks due to it having Darth Vader. Recently, through seeing your videos, I've decided I wanted to get a better player in both SC and UMvC3. So you'll be seeing me in the comments a lot answering whatever questions you ask.

I played SC 1, 2, and 4. Skipped 3 due to it being a PS2 exclusive. I loved SC4 just because I could finally play against human opponents (my friends eventually got sick of playing me because I kept winning).

My main has been Yoshimitsu since the original SC, as I've always been inclined to pick unorthodox characters. I have a question for you max, what fight stick do you use? Played the hell out of Soul Edge, SC and SC2, especially SC2. Didn't like 3 because it felt like a step backward, and 4 was even more so. Was unhappy because SC3 and 4 changed characters a lot too much. To me as well SC2 was the best in the series. Played almost everyone in the game. Mainstreamed Nightmare until people started reading him too much so then I started Taki and Xianghua, then Ivy. Loved Ivy!!!

not sure if you answered it already, but still curious as to why you didn't stick to SC4 when it was out. i felt the create/mod a character options were nearly the same as this iteration, yet you still flipped out when you found out about color saturation and selecting individual pieces to color. plus the netcode was pretty good from what i remember.

The game had air control (I call it DI since I've played a lot of smash bros) in Soul Calibur 2 too, and I'm pretty sure they had immediate ground techs too, but I'm not too sure.

Max I just want to point out that on souledge on the playstation you had that air recovery in there too. Also there was a meter in that that allowed you to do supers but at the cost of your weapon's health. So super moves are not really new to the soul games :) play some soul edge max its a brilliant game.

I never owned the first soul cal, So i always played it in arcades. Now people think im crazy when i use a stick with this game but i cant help it ive played this series so much in arcades (skipped 3 since it was not). I finaly got 2 on gamecube and even then i couldnt for lack of stick. And as for 4 i loved soul calibur 4, however i started to nic-pic it and fell off. And all i gotta say for this one is - Perfect. Thank you Namco, cant wait for tekken tag now.

soul calibur 1 and 2 were my greatest loves in the series, so much unlike any other fighter and so easy to pick up, didn't touch 3, and i played 4 for a long time and i loved the character creation more than anything else especially to make characters with styles i liked but hated the characters themselves e.g. talim. 5 looks to be the best of the originals with the creation of 4 so i'm excited!

7. Customizing - This is where I'm concerned because SC3 was awesome with it. Then SCIV removed somethings and now SCV is back with a "better" engine for it. I don't know if it is just me but I'm at 80% with collecting the items and it just looks like there is next to nothing when it comes to costumes this time around. Oh - and you can't make your own assassin. WTH? :(
Other than that the game is awesome. The online is so freakin' smooth and some of the battles are just insane fun!!

5. *Spoiler* Three of the six unlockable characters are Edge Masters. (The only difference with them is their Critical Edge. There is no reason that three EM should be in this game.)
6. Story Mode - I will admit the voice acting has gotten better for English for the story, but it doesn't feel like a story mode. The CG movies, which little we have received, are just stunning. But there is really nothing to it.

SCV is a very beautiful game and I enjoy it a lot....but there are a few problems that I have with it and was wondering how others have felt about it.
1. Parrying has been removed.
2. Guard Impact now takes meter. (Not that big of a deal because it doesn't take much.)
3. The "new" characters (not counting Viola and Z.W.E.I.) are just the old ones with a new skin and voice.
4. It feels that none of the characters have a damage output balance.

started out on soul calibur 2 for ps2 with nightmare being my go to character then moved into three but didnt play alot of it to have a good character then i got four and found i was best with kilik style and zasalamel and found that i stuck with a staff fighting style in 5 and a secondary in lexia or however her names spelledbut i was mainly familiar with two and four

I entered the SC series back in SC2, but I actually never really got into it. SC3 had TONS of single-player content and was actually the entry that really got me into SC, when SC4 came out and I finally got a PS3, I was sorely disappointed. Everything was soooo much slower and sluggish. It felt terrible. It felt like the game was trying to keep up with me instead of the other way round.
But,SCV looks brilliant! Can. Not. Wait.

My experience with the Soul Calibur games is limited to renting them and having more fun customizing silly characters than actually learning how to fight. It's just not my kind of game, even though I am enjoying watching the videos of others play it right now- I have no urge to buy it, personally. The customization is about the only thing tempting me and it makes me excited in knowing that Capcom wants more customization in their future games, the ones I do like to play.
