Well yes im 13 and plan on breeding them i have researched for months and feel im read. A few months ago i would have said no to guidlines but now that i see what it all takes i think there should be guidlines.

inbreeding could, but should not be done. the thing is, people do it to keep one color or trait that specific animal has to create something new. therefore breeding it out to others but keeping a bloodline of that trait to keep it goin, now if its just inbreeding because you dont want to buy another reptile, thats just dumb.

I think people should be something like 16 before they can breed reptiles.

@IdioticCreations that would be inbreeding, the genetics of inbreeding is that the genes and stuff is so close together, when they create a new embryo, problems can occur, in animals, just as in people. In short, I would definitely not recommend it. Probably way too late to tell you now, but for future reference.

@bubstepfan93 inbreeding is not the same with reptiles as it is with mammals. You can safely breed siblings together or back to the parents with no ill effects. Though after a few generations it is recommended to introduce a fresh bloodline in to your breeding stock.

Too many parents will buy their kid a reptile because he or she wants it but not supervise the child to be sure they are taking proper care of the animals. If we as parents arent going to set the example... who will?

I don't think there should be restrictions but they should definitely know alot about the care of there animal before they even think of breeding but eventually it would be a great experience to breed reptiles

i dont think people should breed geckos in small tanks, unless they own over 30 geckos, otherwise put them in a viv

and i do not think here and there hobby breeding should require a permit but however if you want to be doing it on a regular basis then yes it might be a good idea to have some sort of permit system in place

there are up's and down's to both sides both of which have their own very good points so im not sure which one to say i like better i have considered them both and i am not sure of what to say i would probably have to go with some sort of semi easy to attain permit for commercial breeding [ hence if you want to be doing it on a regular basis ] but for here and there hobby breeding yes there are alot of idiots out there but there are also alot of good honest people

Furthermore, breeding animals is not a "hobby". Creating new life is not a hobby. If the little kids on YouTube (and in general) want something to collect, trade, buy, and sell; then they should look into something more their speed like... Pokemon cards. Or maybe collect stamps? The vast majority of children are simply not competent enough to handle the responsibility. Animals are not toys.

I think the breeding of any animal should require a permit that is relatively difficult to obtain. From hamsters to horses, there are MILLIONS of animals in need of homes all across the US. Maybe if every little 13 year old retard on YouTube wasn't breeding leos, beardies, and ball pythons (probably the most over populated of the reptiles because of the little kiddies who breed them), we wouldn't have so many of them needing homes?

I think reptile breeding should be left up to discretion. If someone under...let's say 16-17, wants to breed, the parents should get involved and make sure the animals are in good shape to breed.

I've often thought about the SHOULD I be breeding part. I see so many ball pythons in rescues, or abused...and I'm creating more...

but then again, I am not a huge breeder pumping out thousands of snakes a year. The most I've had was 11, and I placed them all in good homes.

@ROFLpwnedvideos yes if your 18 and KNOW that they will go to good homes then thats fine but under 18 should be highly inspected by the parents but of coarse most people old enough to be parents cant stand reptiles anyways

people should learn a little before breeding them and dont rush it until you have everything you need for incubation,feeding,right weight etc.!!!!!!!!!

u have to be mature enough to know what your going to do for the future of the babies.

parents should be informed by the people working at the store about buying a breeding pair of reptiles. because kids will tell ther parents that they want ther pet to have a friend and end up buying a second reptile most likely being the opposite sex, and the parents wouldn't care.

Now see theirs my problem, people/young adults buy these animal/reptiles, and they dont care much about the animal all they do is think about making money off of the reptile, and they tend to neglect these animals, I think you should have to atleast have a permit or license that says you can breed a certain animal or reptile and you have to be a respected owner for atleast over a year

guide lines. like u have to know what ur doing and know how to care what u need and how to care for new born geckos. i see videos of people with huge water dishes for there new geckos and they dont know how easy one can drowned
