  • Can't get over how beautiful this song is

  • Just discovered this amazing singer (after hearing Ed Sheeren singing The Parting Glass) and this song, as well as Black Is The Colour ,has brought me to tears.

I held my dear dad in May as he died and her haunting voice just wells up soo... much emotion in me and is helping me actually give vent to my grief.

BEAUTIFUL VOICE x Thank you Cara

  • Dear thoughts are in my mind and my soul it soars enchanted,

As I hear the sweet lark sing in the clear air of the day,

For a tender beaming smile to my hope has been granted,

And tomorrow he shall hear all my fond heart longs to say.

I will tell him all my love , all my soul's pure adoration,

And I know he will hear my voice and he will not answer me nay,

It is this that gives my soul all it's joyous elation,

As I hear the sweet lark sing in the clear air of the day.

  • So inspiring! I was searching all over Napster for a good recording of this so I can sing it at an Irish dance and music competition next month, and Cara's is the only one I found that really showed the true beauty of the poem in her stylistic interpretation of the piece. Really wonderful singing- thanks so much for your inspiration.

  • Having watched this video 100's of times I found myself wondering who had composed or arranged it. Anybody know?

  • my sheet music says Sir Samuel Ferguson composed it and in this case Phyllis Tate arranged it.

    published by Oxford University Press.

check out the better version - also by Cara. just search youtube for lark in the clear air; its the one with the japanese graphics. Awesome.

  • Thank you rgriff29! I'll have a look!

  • I think that the arrangement in this video is the work of the man at the piano - Brian Byrne - check the video on his website for evidence

  • RTE Radio Sunday mornings of my childhood in the 1970's. Show hosted by Ciaran MacMahuna.I used to hear it via my Grannies big, rich sounding Phillips radio as I waited for to get ready for Sunday mass. It was the violin version beautifully played by Geraldine Kennedy?. Our friend Louise Furey-Burke, friend, singer and musician, played it for my wife and I at our wedding not long ago. Gorgeous.

  • This was the theme music for a RTE radio show when I was a kid. I never knew the name. One day I came across the sheet music and played it on the whistle. Tear-jerker moment for me. Talk about memories!

  • It is indeed the Lark in the clear air--i sang it as a choral piece and now sing it occasionally in folk sessions if I feel the mood is right.

Sung it once about 12 years ago and had giggling from the guys in the room so i stopped singing only to be told off by my ex--the fiddler. So reluctant unless the atmosphere is right to sing it.

  • i love you cara!!!

  • Just curious, is this available on DVD??

  • NO, as far as I know

  • wow, what a gem of poem, lovely voice, piano & orchestra combined. a new favorite. am sending to my friends. think this is the same author who wrote the highwayman that anne of green gables recites at the big hotel when she is growing up-in the pbs series. thanks so much for posting.
