  • I'm deaf but I still want to buy one!!

  • Awesome. Thanks for sharing in such a way that is without ego and simple to learn.

  • i used to play the african drums when i was younger at school. i like the beat

  • woow!that made me scratch my brains!i loved it!veeery nice rhythms!lovely complexity!

  • Thanks, there are some nice ideas there.

  • That's very kind of you, thanks. Check out the video Backyard Drum Circle. That's a fun "drum break" rhythm idea we play at many of our local drum circles. It's always a big hit with the group. bonai posted it here on youtube back in 2006. It's awesome.

  • I agree, at some drum circles there is lots of big bangers (or djembe cowboys, lol).

Fortunately more and more here in FL. there is lots of frame drums, doumbeks, smaller percussion items, and wood flutes showing up, that round out the overall sound of the dircle.

  • Maybe get with a few others who feel the same way, and try starting up your own circle, and get some good grooves going.

That happened at Griffith Park in LA and it worked pretty well. If things get too far away from a group ensemble the musicality can become rather frustrating.

  • Is it possible for there to be a Region 2 version of the DVD please? :P I would really like to be able to buy this. :) I used to do a lot of hand drumming and now I'm all rusty and want to get back into it and drag a few people along with me. ;)

What other instruments are possibly found in a drum circle by the way?

  • Hi, it plays in region 1 or 2. I've seen just about every type of drum I can think of at drum circles. 5 gallon buckets, all kinds of stuff. Lots of times flutes, didgeridoos, even saw a violin once. One time I saw this guy that had a cowbell that looked like it came right off a cow at his farm. LoL

  • nice beats. keep up the good work and good luck on your dvd.please view "Cheryl and Claudia Cat"...no subscribers so far,but it's a silly video I put on you tube. Trying to learn more about drum circles and types of drums for use in them.thanks.

  • i brought a 12 " Ashiko are you familiar wiht them?

  • Yes, I like Ashiko cone shaped drums. I think the sound is a little crisper. 12" is a good size. I had one I wish I had never sold. (A car also! A 68 GTO ragtop)

  • I want to buy a drum I found a 8" Djembe is it too small to start with?

  • That's a little small for me. I like at least a 10 inch drum head so I can get some range of bass and tones. I prefer a 12".

But on the other hand, it is easy to transport, you can always get a bigger drum later on, right?

  • were can i get the d.v.d. and is it more detail?

  • Nice rifs. (Very rarely do I see people playing hand drums with rings on and I don't do that myself - how do you find it?)

  • Thanks. It's a wedding ring Tattoo. I agree that wearing a metal ring wouldn't be to smart as it would likely damage the drum head or even cause an injury.

  • great beats.

Im a begginer at playing Set, but do to circumstance, i know longer have one. I got into a drum circle in the gymnasium of my highschool with a few random ppl (now friends) and it kind of inspired me. I had the most fun playing percussion and the most passion playing percussion that i ever had, and i think ima buy a djembe.

If i do, ill be sure to buy your dvd :D

  • If you're not sure what kind of djembe to get, feel free to ask my opinion okay? Lots of my friends are getting these new Toca PVC shell djembes with goatskin heads. They are lightweight, sound pretty good, and sell new for around $100. I have a couple and I like them a lot. S

  • well put together. this will start me on my way. thankyou for keeping it simple.

  • yeh-I have this DVD, it's really helpful and a total bargain for the price- so many rhythms! If you're looking for a rhythm, most likely it's on here, Shannon knows them all! Now- all it needs is a bellydancer to show those rhythms in motion-LOL ;0

  • Thanks, I really appreciate those kind words. Bellydancers and Fire Spinners! Just like at the beach. Yeah man!

  • OH, so helpful. thanx alot.

  • Ah. Got me. ;)

  • Take your ring off or you'll ruin your drum head.

  • It's a wedding band tattoo.

  • LOL .nice.

Where do you recomend someone buy there djambe?

  • Talking to you like a friend, I would suggest getting a 12" remo djembe, but there is a couple good brands. It

has pretty good range, and isn't real heavy.

It will probably last forever as both the shell and head are synthetic.

Try visiting a music store and play one first. Most have a good selection of world percussion now you can try. See what "talks" to you. Most will negotiate 15% off the list. Best to get a good drum that will last, than one you will out grow. & resale is good.

  • I wound up with a 14" Toca freestyle Mech tune. and a 10" X8 duff..... and having a ball playing them.... although I gots huge blood blisters in my middle finger and my left hand smacking the rim too hard ;P .Thanks for the advice.

  • This is very useful!

  • fresh, a great way to practice.

  • great for amateurs like me :p
