Please find an OTer that can help you with the rig. You can damage the rig easily if you have no idea how to tune it up. If the tubes are bad you will need to install a new set and neutralise them and that takes some know how and skill and you must remove the bottom cover exposing yourself to high volatges. Im not trying to be a curmudgeon but ive seen too many new hams damage these rigs..
I don't believe that the E model will transmit on 11 meters without modification. You may have found this out by now. Anyway, go to the foxtango.org website where you will find info on this rig, both instruction and service manuals. There is a users group associated with foxtang which you can search and post questions on. Tune up your radio on a dummy load and on a band other than 11 mteres while evaluating it. Hope this helps andgood luck.
@w7md Thank you. I appreciate the info. I have found some other forums regarding the FT but they seem to be dead with no active users. I'll check into the .org site you mentioned.
. Try getting a can of tuner cleaner from Radio Shack or other electronic store, remove the top cover and spray into the meter switch while moving the switch up and down. In fact, clean all the controls with cleaner, with power off, then set for a while and try. Could be dust in meter switch, explaining intermittent problem.... Paul KK4Ess
Also do you have the plug installed on the back? That needs to be hooked up or the rig will NOT transmit. Check your IC curent VR adjust as well...

You are taking to long to tune. Probably need new tubes. Use a non-amplified mic.

@swthog7 I have tried a non-amplified regular hand mic, the radio still did the same thing. I agree, probably needs new tubes. Thanks for your input.
