Personally Sammy is a better singer than David. David has a lot of showmanship than Sammy but Sammy has the voice, and he could also play guitar. Besides Sammy is not a bad entertainer on stage.
Eddie said Sammy wasn't a "team player" and wasn't around enough... and Sammy says Eddie took forever to present music and finish it. I think they're equally dysfunctional and deserve each other.
Balance is starting to grow on me. I didn't like it at all when it came out.
The only thing that suffered was in 1988 starting the more ballady stuff, really got a lot of female fans into the band for that reason. Kinda stuck with the Hagar material til his demise with the band. I mean with hagar when they rocked, they did indeed. I think the big crapper in the toilet is the overproduced sound of OU812. Strong material indeed, but the lack of power in the drums, virtually no bass, and Ed's over the top 80's sound is just too much. It needs a remaster hardcore.
@revolutionman81 Agreed! They started to get better with F.U.C.K and Balance, a more harder and serious VH would have been my dream band! Eddies sound on those 2 albums is what I aspire to get from my own gear. 'Judgment Day' is a great example of perfect in your face rock, sets the standard IMO.
well people arent gonna not go to a van halen concert because they dont like an album. People will still go based on the earlier stuff that they might like. I for one love the balance album...i pretty much love the whole Sammy Era.
I understand. You, unlike most fans, prefer Sammy era. VH suffers from people wanting the "old days" back. The old days won't be back, people just don't understand they aren't 20's anymore. Their sound changed, just like anything when time passes by.
@saulocpp Ya and when the old days did come back, they kicked out Mikey. Im over the Wolfie thing for sure, but at the same time cant they just do anything decent for the FANS? Like really between 1999-2011 has been the most terrible being a Van Halen fan. Just unreal, how do these idiots not see that? I mean they dont release shit all. No demos, no tracks laying around (hundreds eh Eddie?), no live material, no films, 3 tracks on a best of that is missing the legit bass player, cmon.....

I liked this album, it didn't have as many of the bad lyrics as some of Hagar songs and I really enjoyed it.
