  • Reed just sweating and shaking while talking to who he thinks is an old woman. You can just feel how scared shitless he is in this scene, what a great actor. Karen Black is priceless. And yeah I always thought he was throw out of the window cause Black gets up and goes after him.

  • Awesome 70s Horror flick. The look on Karen Black's face (as the old woman) was priceless!! Thats what scared the shit out of me about the movie. I was about 7 or 8 years old at the time.

  • This movie scared me like a sonofabitch. The Casting is perfect.

Oliver Reed is a great actor and the Horror Genre owes him big time. They say he´s dead, but when you watch him you know he´s not to be trusted!

  • I think it's quite obvious that she throws him out, why should he jump on his own? Doesn't make sense.

  • I was about 12 when my parents made me watch this... This movie literally scarred me for LIFE. I'm 20 now, and I refuse to watch this...

  • How did that old bitch throw a 200lb man out the window?

  • @granpapi29 It looks like she scared the hell out of him, so he dived out the window.

  • One of the best if not the best Horror film from the 70s...highly regard it as the best Haunted House movie ever made...even better than The Amityville Horror....

  • No!!!! Not Davey!!

  • Poor kid!

  • YOU HAVE TO SAY HAVING KAREN BLACK DON THE GREY WIG AND THE BLACK DRESS ALONGSIDE HER FACE BEING ALREADY A LITTLE CREEPY AS IS ,OLIVER REED PROBABLY CRAPPED HIS TROUSERS BEFORE TAKING THAT CLASSIC DIVE OUT THE WINDOW,CLASSIC,ONE OF THE SCARIEST SCENES AND ENDINGS OF A HORROR FILM AND KAREN BLACK GRUESOME MAKEUPAND COSTUME AND OLIVER REED'S CAN SCARE THE SHIT OUT OF ANYONE,GREAT MOVIE,MRS. AALADYCEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!

  • Mrs. Alardyce was pissed! Did you see her clench her fist as if to say, "I'll answer you alright - and it'll be the last voice YOU ever hear!" then that evil-ass look on her face as she rolled toward him and threw him out the window. I was in Oakland today and went to the house(Dunsmuir). They give tours but don't take you to the 3rd floor. I was THIS close to sneaking up to the room used for the old lady just to see it and snap a couple of pictures - decided against though. LOL

  • I always thought that was a wonderfully creepy shot of her clenching her fist before he turned the chair around. One of those little scenes that just stays with you..

  • @jcalli66 Exactly! She was friggin furious, enough to where she had the strength to launch him out that window. LOL

  • Wow, it's creepy to think Mrs. Alidyce was waiting for this entire moment just to hurl Ben out the attic window.

  • Marian had been taken over by the spirit in the house; it really wasn't "her" throwing Ben out the window. she was already gone.

and i've always wondered...when David is screaming "mom!" as the chimney is about to fall on him and kill him, is it because, in those last moments of his life, that he finally "put the pieces together" and realized that "she" was the one doing all of it? or was he still "in the dark" and just screaming for her to come to him?

  • This movie is by fare one of the scariest. As a child it haunted me and the look on her face is bone chilling.

  • I knew how it ends . . .I knew it was coming . . . . still makes the hair rise on the back of my neck!!

  • Whoever did Karen Black's makeup for this last scene should really take a bow. I have never forgotten this ending and I was only 11 when I saw this on TV. Very creepy and very evil.

  • Oliver Reed's intense acting makes this scene scary! Otherwise this scene is laughable!

  • liver Reed's intense acting makes this scene scary! Otherwise this scene is laughable!

  • This was such a creepy ending

  • Now if they had been rich snobs then I would've thought their deaths would be

justifiable but these were normal, decent people. Breaks the heart.

  • The problem with the movie is that has so many plot holes that are explained.

Why is the house haunted in the first place? How did the wife become the new old woman? Or was there even an old woman in the first place? What is the ordeal of the two house owners. Are they both entities that part of the house? Or are they ageless caretakers that started it all? Why did the house allow the doctor to visit and even leave. Why didn't the kid or the husband notice the spontaneous changes to the house

  • @Nigralurker Ah but I think that is the beauty of the movie x) I had all thosse questions too that why i bought the book :DD

  • one of the best.

  • poor boy lost his whole family... and then he was killed this movie scared me when i was little

  • First horror movie I ever saw, I was 11. Quite scary but it should be about 25 minutes shorter.

  • The Cheafuar creeped me out in this moive

  • yah right

  • i love this movie ! its really really underrated in my opinion. i read that it has a 5.9 rating on imdb! thats pathetic.

  • mrs allarcyce scared me when I was a kid

  • I read imdb reviews saying that you need gore and torture in a film now for it to be scary....that shit in the attic is the freakiest thing I have seen in a while and im an avid horror fan...

  • @dspikey Couldnt agreew ith you more. You dont need a whole of gore to scare people. this was a classic horror film and it stills works!! You are more afraid by what you cant see, then what you can see. This film was all mood and suspense. I'd take that over gore any day of the week.

  • I finally found the name (and the vid ,unreal) my mother made me watch this with her as she was to scared to watch horror movies alone and if dad was at work, i was only 5 ,i knew it was karen black, a few thingsstuck out like the end (i thought the old lady was green lol) and the picture hearse part.. FAR OUT, thanks!!!

  • I saw this also when I was about 5 too. I thought she was greenish and i remember seeing a part where the boy or someone looks up at the window and sees her looking out..Either way, scared the s--t out of me and stuck with me all these years...

  • Hey OliverReedFan did you know the house here was the funeral home in Phantasm?

  • @shadowdollcat The Dunsmuir Estate in Oakland, California uas used in Burnt Offerings, Phantasm, So I Married An Axe Murderer and A View To A Kill among other films.

  • my only gripe about the ending of this flick was why the hell did the kid jus stand there and watch the bricks fall on him? I know...its jus a flick.

  • i just saw this scene for the first time in 30 years. OMG! it still terrifies me.

  • probably one of the scariest scenes in horror movie history... for me at least...

  • 1:52-1:54 gave me fuckken nightmares as a kid

  • fucking hell, sweats coming of his brow, then hes met by his wife with white bulging eyes. shit i think i shit meself.

  • haha i have to agree with that comment made 11 months ago IF YOU SEE A BUILDING CRUMBLE JUST STAY THERE AND SCREAM

i mean this kid was he a n idiot?? instead of start running like mad to get the hell out of there he just stands and screams

anyway the movie was one of the best horror movies and the ending was nightmarish

the only thing i expected to see more in this movie was mpre creppy scenes with ghosts as this was a haunted house

but still the ,movie scares me

  • Horror movies from the 70's were great because they made daylight scary.

  • I have to agree, one of the best creep fests out of the 70's...the ending took no prisoners. Both characters and audience alike.

  • god, that face........37, and still rattledby it

  • I'm in my late 30s now, and every once in awhile that image of Karen Black's face still sends a mild chill throughout my body, when I remember how much it frightened me as a child. I am curious to see this scene in high-definition on Blu-Ray (Gulp!). Thank you so much for posting this. It is a true horror classic!

  • I first saw this scene on TV in the late 70s or very early 80s when I was just a child. The scary music woke me up from my nap, I looked at the TV, and the ghostly image of Karen Black's face SCARED THE LIVING DAYLIGHTS OUT OF ME!! I was traumatized by the image of that face for about a month. Not even a tarantula's or a werewolf's face has ever traumatized me that badly!

  • classic, they just dont make em like they used to.

  • will you ANSWER me !!!

  • it still scare the shit out of me when she gets up and starts coming after dude......like what chockmah67 said: if u see an ugly old lady just dive out a window LMFAO !!!!!

  • goddammitt, im 37 and that face STILL gives me the FUCKKEN CREEPS !!!!!

  • For real!! Now everytime I see Karen Black in a movie I remember that scene!! AWESOME!!

  • alls i know is if i were him i dont think i would have stood there in disbeleif; i would have GOT THE FUCK ON and BOUNCED !!!!!!

  • Why do you even bother with posting, if you don't really care for the movie. Let the fans enjoy this movie, without your comments.

  • @OliverReedFan This movie proves that it is possible to create a truly horrifying story without relying upon the cheap gimmicks of blood and guts and gratuitous gore. Except for a moment at the end, there is no blood at all in this movie. Yet, even after all these years, I still think it was one of the scariest movies ever made.

  • @OliverReedFan I remember this movie..I was 11 and this was on tv...scary movie!..thank you for this..

  • fag.

  • Horror flicks from the 70's were the absolute best! Love his film!

  • Marion threw him out! I definitely agree with that...she got out the wheel chair [possessed] and threw Ben out.

And yeah, stand and scream while huge boulders are coming down on you

This is still one of the best horror flix made!

  • "I've been waiting for you, BEN!!" LOL

  • chockmah67,

I totally agree on point #2!...my sentiments exactly...however, I don't think that Ben dove out of the window, I think Marion threw him out..Look at the video closely and notice how she charges him...Anyhow, that was the impression that I always got.

  • Things I've learn to from this movie: 1: if you see an old ugly lady, just dive out of a

3rd story window to a cab below &

2: if you see a building crumble just stay there & scream & wait for huge boulders to crush you.
