I just wanted to put out my theory on the subject. I believe that the earth has been tropical for the majority of its life. when we cooled off from the mass extinction of the dinosaurs it had a long lasting effect on the environment. causing the many different climates we enjoy now. so i believe that (through my study of earth history) the earth will make a gradually change back to this hotter more tropical climate.
with risk managment you have to look at risk versus reward. column A has no reward at all, you didn't die but we bankrupt the world. is that really any better? in column B we can either live happily, and have money, or we will all die a quick, relatively painless death. What if it turns out that climate change is happaning at the rapidity feard having the same destablising effect but that humans only had a tiny part in this because its a natural cycle. As stupid as his spamming is, he has a point. The reason we're having this problem is regarding how heavily dependant we are on fossil fuels and how our economy is encircled around it.
In the end, it'll get to the point where we it costs too much to simply extract it (deep-sea drilling but in the middle of the Atlantic). Unreadiness for that WILL cause a depression. Casual, slow easing into sustainability without fossil fuels helps the economy in the long run.

False Dichotomy!. There are three possible outcomes and there are three possible actions.
The globe will: 1)get cooler, 2) stay about the same, 3)get warmer
Possible action: 1) we try to decrease temp, 2) do nothing, 3) try to increase temp.
On top of that, there is yet another dimension: a) CO2 is responsible for climate change, b) CO2 is not responsible for climate change!
Now it is clear the best action is to do nothing for 10-20 years ans see what happens. There is no hurry!

I just wanted to put out my theory on the subject. I believe that the earth has been tropical for the majority of its life. when we cooled off from the mass extinction of the dinosaurs it had a long lasting effect on the environment. causing the many different climates we enjoy now. so i believe that (through my study of earth history) the earth will make a gradually change back to this hotter more tropical climate.

I really liked the way you presented your argument and I agree that action is a better choice. However it is the type of action that should be taken that concerns me. What if it turns out that climate change is happaning at the rapidity feard having the same destablising effect but that humans only had a tiny part in this because its a natural cycle. Would it not be worth spending our rescources developing the capability to adapt to changes as sooner or later they come regardless.

Meanwhile we've got a trillion barrels of more expensive, but very accessible heavy oil in South America that we can access as after we cut down the stupid trees that are in the jungle sitting on top of it. As for the animals, who cares, we won Darwin's evolution game. As long as we've got plenty of chickens, pigs, and cows, that's all the fauna biodiversity we need. Extinction happens.

False Assumptions. Example. 1. The risk needs to be weighted. Ex: If you go outside you might be hit by a meteor and it would kill you. 2. If you don't go outside you can't go to work, therefore you will starve to death.

Of course, thats almost like infering that the odds of getting hit by a meteor are anywhere close to the odds of global warming being real (they're not) and that the economic cost of converting to an emissions free economy are as high as the cost of staying indoors all day (it's many orders of magnitude less.) So yes, there IS a chance that it could be a bad bet and a risky investment. However, you'd have to be an idiot to believe it considering the facts.

OK, you make better sense here, but first you need to know where the problem is coming from. Industries, cars, cows (don't laugh, I have heard some put this forward)? To get the biggest reaction, slap a $5.00 per unit tax on the energy consumed and overnight you will see electric cars come to life and petro stations dissappear. Take the tax money and support eco-friendly alternatives. Another consideration, the globe has reached it's human population limit.

As stupid as his spamming is, he has a point. The reason we're having this problem is regarding how heavily dependant we are on fossil fuels and how our economy is encircled around it.
In the end, it'll get to the point where we it costs too much to simply extract it (deep-sea drilling but in the middle of the Atlantic). Unreadiness for that WILL cause a depression. Casual, slow easing into sustainability without fossil fuels helps the economy in the long run.
