  • Democracy Now is for complete open borders, thus they are treaonists.

  • elitist heeb

  • @brahmbhattbhavna Are you kidding me? Elitist? Not many intellectuals have done more for the poor than the Professor. You should check your history buddy....really...

  • I listen to the BBC, the CBC, Al Jazeera, and RussiaToday.

  • democracy now, the young turks and the real news!! forget the corporate run rest.

  • Always thought NPR and Fox news were two sides of the same intellectually dishonest and prejudicial coin.

  • @mortald

Meaning what? Fox is an global media empire presenting characters like Glenn Beck, and NPR is a little radio network with interviews with authors, scientists, Shakespearian actors....

  • chomsky '12

  • @kurtrosenwinkel

He wouldn't support Israel. That makes him unelectable.

  • Comment removed

  • yeah, screw n"p" r

  • Bullshit meters would constrantly register in the US right now

  • NPR is the more tempered version of news

  • Folks, as someone who has spent 15 years of his life working in public radio, I can guarantee you that NPR, PRI, and APM are to the left of Tip O'Neill.

Listen to everything you can, left and right, with a healthy bullshit meter turned on.

  • Well said.

  • NPR "appears" at times to be leftist. They are not. Pacifica radio is leftist. NPR and PBS are corprate shills. They temper their views to appease both their audience and the guys paying them. Cokie Roberts is an example. She grew her voice in public radio. Now she gets the big bucks for the main stream media. I would never donate a penny to NPR or PBS. Why? They have a subtle, but strong conservative slant. They are far from the public interest. They do have a few programs I listen to.

  • Yep...keep the bullshit meter turned on..

  • NPR is too snobby for my taste

  • I'll take NPR fluff over deliberate misguidance by Fox News and their ilk.

Democracy Now! and TheRealNews are more critical.

  • NPR is the Pentagon's official news source

  • NPR is comfortably conservative and easily digestible. It does not trigger my reflexes and cause me to gag or vomit.

Maybe I really am conservative, but just haven't realized it yet.

  • Tweedledum and Tweedledee thats what the US election means to me. Although I have previously had some respect for Obama .. But im not so sure, there is only one political party in America ... your right Noam its the big business party. I now find him lacking back bone, Palin um well.... no need to comment there,Well whatever happens There will be no change apart from a few names, sad, very sad.

  • NPR is a bullshit news program; they claim to be liberal or unbiased; NPR is none of these. I have heard shows that are wrong--just wrong. They are a control-the-population news source all the way. I hate NPR but I listen just to hear the bullshit.

  • I do find myself hearing it on the way to work and I don't feel like I shaped my own opinion but was told what to think. Its hard to pick apart so much that is being thrown at you no matter what channel or station or site.

  • Read the underground press if you want. Some of it is a little strange sounding but some of it hits home as reality. I love the to read some of the same journalists unhindered by the editors. Editors are chosen to please the corporations running them. There are whole books of articles you can buy from the DISINFORMATION SOCIETY on line or in some bookstores. I order them from B&N all the time. They have little softbacks too on many issues--showing all the sides or very objective. Take it easy.

  • Hey thanks for that. I will look this up!

  • ZardexM, It is obvious that you are smitten, with Obama like so many others. "hope" and "change" are only words when has he ever provided those things for his constituents as a senator? have you seen his voting record, his obvious support of things not positive toward the people who believe in him? Have you seen the recent Bankruptcy reform Biden is pushing? obviously you don't care about telecom imunity, and now he will be in support of massive corporate welfare, what about the working class?

  • Not really... I don't give a crap about "hope". I actually dislike those words very much.

I also only read from sources of my own liking and I don't even keep a TV.

I disagree with you about what is good for "the people" though, as in my world economy is a good thing, as long as it is regulated correctly.

  • Isn't that why they call it FREE Market, and FREE Trade? Free of regulations free of tariffs, free of taxes. I'm not sure you quite understand what a "Free Market" is. The Freer it gets the riskier larger corporations become with shareholder money they have no regulations and noone to keep them accountable, they lose company pensions for retiring age people, and then they topple and ask for Government help. Our World economy & global endeavors violate human rights and violate labor laws.

  • Amen! Thanks Chomsky for the bit of realism missing in the debates, missing in our democracy. What's your platform Obama? where are you taking us by being pro telecom immunity,by blatantly supporting Wall Street, by supporting NAFTA and free trade. where will you lead us and will the people still worship you like the messiah once they realize you too were a puppet?

  • You obviously don't even know what free trade means. You sound like it is supposed to be a bad thing.

There is free trade and then there is "Free Trade tm".

  • fair trade is the only system civilized people should use, but then again we are one of the least civilized countries with our foreign affairs, and our mass genocide of Iraq and Afghanistan, soon to be Iran, Mr. Obama has been a very vocal supporter of a War with Iran, an occupation for at least 13 years in Iraq, I think the man lacks a spine he skirts around an issue whenever he is asked a real question, he never gives a yes or no there is always a long explanation attached to whatever he says

  • He is a politician, that's his job.

There is no real difference between the policies of the two candidates, and little to no value in questions over who is more moral. I's their job to see that things work out safely, and the better they are at it the more harm is avoided.

Obama is plainly the more skilled of the two.

Even the business people want what's best for everyone.

"Greed" is a myth for those who do not accept how fallible humans, even business leaders, are amidst fear and uncertainty.

  • You're a contradiction. everything you write contradicts you. None of your philosophy is well founded enough to supports your dim witted opinions. Greed is a word in the Oxford English dictionary with an actual definition. not some ridiculous theory. You are a crackpot. And why I am bothering to respond to such blatherings I will never know.

  • Contradiction? ... What isn't a contradiction?

    Wisdom is madness.

  • Yes, it's likely one of these puppets will get elected. but this has been an odd election year, I want to hear about the issues and not about Obama's personality, whats he going to do? he will have the same platform as McCain with little difference concerning the War, the Economy and Morally as well. we have two choices yes or yes.I'm going with Nader, who is a No thanks vote to corporate greed and corporate welfare.I'm making a protest vote, because democracy is about choice not about yes or yes!

  • Chomsky never said Obama was going to be a puppet, he was just upset about the media covering on him.

Actually Obama would be the first president in a long time with enough education and intelligence to be likely to understand more then half of what his consultants are talking about.

You don't want puppets? Then your only choice can be Obama because McCain has basically no education at all where as Obama has a Master's degree is Law.

  • The first president in a long time? Clinton was a Rhodes scholar.

  • and a Southern Baptist

  • Clinton was a Scholar but did not earn a masters degree in Law like Obama.

  • I don't know if you're joking, but I'll answer as if you're not. You can't get a Master's Degree in law in the USA. Obama has a JD (his law degree) from Harvard.

The Rhodes Scholarship is just about the most prestigious scholarship award given. The studies are at the graduate level. If that is not enough for you, Clinton actually did get a JD (like Obama). His is from Yale University.

  • I wasn't joking, I was just wrong.

Somehow I had managed to read that he had a Master's degree on it, maybe there was a typo on some article.

  • I'm amazed...

to see someone admit to being wrong on a Youtube message board. Much appreciated.

  • Only in pride can you claim humility, and only through pride can you be humbled.

True humility is to embrace pride over the meaningless lie of self worth.

The denial of nothingness and hunger for true meaning is the sickness of the meek who fear their own being and their power to lie so much as to arrogantly claim their own lies as external and higher truths that overshadow and define their illusion of worth.

  • The meek and the arrogant are one and the same, as are the proud and the humble.

  • he says obama will be a puppet, look at other interviews

  • Of cause he is, they all are, but Chomsky still has not said those words.

He has instigated it in so many ways but not as outlandishly as to call him a puppet.

A puppet would be an exaggeration anyways, as not even bush is completely a puppet, as no one can pull the strings on his dyslexia, so he wouldn't stumble with words.

  • he hasn't said 'hes a puppet' but if you watch other interviews where he talks about obama, he implies it. puppet is not literal; it just means that the position that presidents are behaving authentically and making decisions by their own free will is patently false.

  • yes "free trade" represents free of tariffs and regulations,etc.. NAFTA is the North American Free Trade Association, which has written itself as a Law that supercedes all other laws, violates human rights, as well as labor rights, and is in large part responsible for our economic crisis now. Do you call the corporate 700 billion dollar corporate bail out, part of free market capitalism. Free Market Capitalism would die if it weren't for the corporate socialism tax payers will be paying for!

  • you need to watch other chomsky interviews. don't let media hype and obvious repulsiveness of mccain cause you to believe that obama is good and pure. im sorry, he is no better than the rest. hes like reagen; just a good actor, not a good person

  • Obama is full of crap. just another neoliberal puppet. If you want to see real democracy in action these days, you have to look towards South America. elections in the US are a sham, run like marketing campaigns by the PR industries.

  • I am sorry to say that an Obama presidency will make what you assert all the more observable. But can we not say that he is a lesser evil than McCain?

  • He is, but aren't you ashamed that you're voting for a 'lesser evil'?

  • Not as ashamed as I would be if I voted for the greater evil. But I am afaid that the Obama candidacy has been in the corporate can since the beginning. This is simply the way the system works: big bucks above (ultimately for broadcast media spots) and gullibility and laziness below (the people lap it up).

  • And Obama has offered more than any other Democrat, and although it's not for the people, this time he offers a form of universal health care.

    That's a step up/forward...

  • Some of you are soo slow. Obama, McCain and the rest have nothing in common w/ us commoners. They will pretend to during election cycles but we should all see through that posturing easily. Most people won't see reality though. You spend all your energy fighting each other white vs black, "rich" vs poor, etc. So easily distracted from the real threat, the lies, corruption, and complete disconnect from the people's wishes that all modern democracies seem to have.

  • I've been a Chomsky supporter. I agree about NPR. It's run by the government/corporations-fascists. They're puupets-told what to say-'reporters'.

HOWEVER, Chomsky's made statements recently about 9-11 that raised red flags. He says that he does NOT believe it was an inside job & for our government to attempt such a plot would be 'crazy'. He says no one has 'come forward' with 'evidence'.(???) We KNOW Bush/Cheney ARE 'crazy'. Norm, 'Evidence' that Cheney/Bush WERE involved is OVERWHELMING!!

  • would you consider the possibility that you're just a conspiracy nut whose surrendered your mind to unreason, and that chomsky is right?

  • I don't agree with everything ANYONE says simply because they're an icon. I go by evidence.

Although there are litterally thousands upon thousands of proven, documented conspiracies throughout history, including freely given confessions, many people buy into the media propaganda that everything is simply... "chance" or..."coincidence".

Get a copy of David Rockefellers book & read for yoursef if he admits to a cospiracy by internationalists to take over the world.

  • I used to believe that 9/11 was an inside job, but remove all emotion, bias and just think about it.

Our current government is RETARDED, they couldn't keep this a secret for this long...

And such a fucking risk it would be! The biggest risk ever, punishable by the most painful death! lol

I've seen the evidence, I know there is some.

You just have to use logic, though.

  • There is a TON of evidence that the whitehouse was "involved" in the 9-11 attacks. It's all out there too. The mass media WON'T report it. Period.

The military was involved, large corporations were involved...even other countries were involved. I'm not seeing any lack of evidence. I just see media and government denial. That should tell us ALL something.

    1. What happened to the Anthrax investigation?

    2. Where is Bin Laden?

    3. What is the story concerning WTC building #7?

    Logical questions?

  • I'm as much for the truth as you are, my friend. I still consider myself a truther, but one who had settled with another answer.

  • 1) Our country doesn't care for us now, though it should. Did anthrax infect the elites? No, so they didn't care. Now to say that our own government has the balls to want us to DIE, that's gutsy.

    2) If I knew, I would tell you first, okay?

    3) I know this is almost disgusting of me to say this, but I do believe that Building 7 collapsed due to the fire heat (PLUS PRESSURE). The pressure would come in when gas pipes not only catch fire, but SHOOT fire outwards.

  • I listenened to first hand witness accounts from people who were IN #7. They say there were explosions all over the building much of the day on the 11th. They also said that there were dead bodies on the bottom floors. #7 was never hit by debris.

World fire experts have said many times that the fire in #7 was MUCH too tiny to collapse ANY portion of it.

The owner said the building was "pulled", a demolition term.

BBC reported #7 "collapsed" over 25+ Min. before the event even happened.

  • wtf?

  • I don't agree with this one. Barak is the most balance of all.

Barak is the more balanced as regard to the

Palestinian conflict. look at his team of advisors apart from Ross and you'll sea if Barak is the best equipped to make peace.

    Strange one from Chomsky.

  • I dont think chomsky was criticising obama, just highlight the problems with the media.

  • I can't stand Obama, why does he talk like that? and what does he really say? how did he get to the top? the Obama campaign is supported by big insurance. The major media with the Democratic and Republican party, work for the hegemony, keeping the people disinterested in democracy...Fuck Obama.

  • well so what does the left of the left want?

try with nader again but nader is not there to win but just to spoil. obama is the less evil of all and one need to give him a shot otherwise nothing will change at all..

sure he has made mistakes but he is a good guy. i know the people he worked with in chicago as a community organizer. he is n ot a fake and he had it tough. not born with a silver spoon.

  • Obama voted for the "patriot act" - totally unconstitutional--the courts have already struck down parts of it. Obama is very establishment--Chomsky knows that.

  • I said wtf because he was cut off mid sentence, the thought wasn't complete, wtf?

not to mention the first, 17, unnecessary, annoying seconds...but he is so right about the way our elections are a beauty pageant, a candidate's stance on issues is not important....why isn't NPR doing a better job>?why?

  • NO WMDs NO Operational links to al qaeda NO Meetings with Atta NO Nukes NO Bio/Chem weapons labs NO Alum. centrifuge tubes NO Yellow cake purchases Just a motive and a plan (Wolfowitz Doctrine) Just intent to "fix intel around the policy" (Downing St Memo) Just Feith's false intel (Pent. Insp. Gen. Rpt) And more false intel (Sen. PhII Intel Rpt) Just retaliation for the truth (V. Plame/J. Wilson) Just a president who violated his oath and lied to America (articles of impeachment)
  • How true, How true. Us Americans seem to be infatuated with a "Charasmatic Leader". If you are further interested in learning about the comercializing of the candidates read -Media/Society: Industries, Images and Audiences by David R. Croteau and William Hoynes. Its a college text that basically dives in deeper into this whole issue of selling presidents like they would a coke.

  • A "Charasmatic Leader" like GW Bush?

Let's not forget that Americans voted twice for an idiot with no intellectual or physical appeal. I doubt it can be blamed on marketing.

The next American president will be a genius, all he/she has to do it to sit in the oval office and not invade anyone.

  • Nonsense. Bush had the most able marketing professional on his side: Karl Rove.

  • Key part *not invade anyone"

Sorry but Obama and Hillary both have plans of invasion. :(

  • It seems to be a Democratic addiction: the second coming of the great leader. I believe the first one was Kennedy, the great white hope. It seems almost trivial that he invaded south Vietnam, especially if you compare it to the fact that he invaded the south region of Marylin Monroe...

Chomsky is right, there is a huge infatuation with qualities and, even reputation (McCain the maverick), unlike the cold shoulder treatment that the real political issues are experiencing.

  • charismatic leaders?

    bush 1 charismatic?

    bush 2 charismatic?

    carter charismatic?

    clinton charismatic?? vulgar yes

the only presidents i know that were charismatic

    were reagan and roosevelt

  • libris39,

    You're an idiot.

    Bush43 is somewhat charismatic.

JFK is somewhat charismatic, but more glamorous.

    Reagan is somewhat charismatic.

    The most charismatic presidents are:

    FDR, LBJ, Bill Clinton

Bill Clinton is mixture of FDR + LBJ + JFK

Obama is a scumbag, but is a charismatic one too. But he will NEVER be president.

  • why tell me i am an idiot???

why would obama never be elected???because dwarfs like you and your repressed gay idols like cheney, robertson and other christian degenerates are going to prevent him??

you have destroyed america or what is left of it. your are an ignorant fool who is responsible for electing criminals who have sent thousands of our young men to die or loose limbs and ruin hard working families because you are an ignorant bachelor who wants to fight other people's war.

  • libris ranted: "why tell me i am an idiot???"

    If the shoe fits pal.

BTW, I'm a Hillary supporter. Idiot.

    LOL.

P.S. And yes, the dwarfs are going to stop him, EASILY. He was hand picked win the nomination, destroy the Clinton brand, and then to LOSE the general election.

  • yes i am happy the white queen was not able to steal the nomination. they think they are entitled and she lost. good for her. americans

don't like queens and kings. enough of that!!!

let's have black rule us for once. that might be a good thing for this country after we raped them and exploit them for centuries.

enough of white supremacy. power to the minorities for once. i'll say obama pres, richardson, vice pres and why not black owl attorney general to give power to natives.

  • Sexism aside, Hillary is simply old establishment. She's "with the program".

Obama has been endorsed to run for Puppet. He's also been approved by the CFR, World Bank, Federal Reserve Bank and the Bank of England.

He's also with 'them', "on board".

US presidents are simply figure heads. They do what they're told...or ELSE!

Jackson, McKinley, Lincoln, JFK & RFK didn't.

  • Does anyone have the full video or audio or even transcript of this?

  • people are like opinions and we all know what they are like.... everybody has one

  • genius

  • it could work

  • 05-15 2008 - To BE or not to BE experiment 777 - The poeple of the world are going to Boycott Everything. Take our money out the banks, no work, no TV, no gas, Fastfood, EVERYTHING. The Microchip must come off the table. Last chance to be part of a good world wide movement. spread the word to as many as you can World Wide

  • That act is completely pointless and a waist of time.

  • like sitting in all day eating fast-food and watching mtv

  • well up for it..

  • I think this guy should run.......LOVE HIM!!!

  • you are stupid like a bush voter

  • ^^^The above user is an anti-semite and racist who does not represent the people who actually read Noam Chomsky. People viewing this video, please do not think actual Chomsky readers behave that way.^^^

  • Chomsky is still the man.

And thankfully, with Mike Gravel on the scene, there's a democratic choice that makes sense as far as policy's are concerned, expecially in dealing with the core issues of the day (including America's "Military Industrial Complex," "Prison Industrial Complex," special interests having high-jacked the legislative branch, etc.)

I strongly urge Noam Chomsky student's to consider supporting Mike Gravel for President in 2008.

  • Yep, I agree , Mike Gravel is a very good choice.

    Even Ralph Nader endorse him.

  • I think Gravel is the wrong man for the job. He's all for a carbon tax. To me this means he's part of the self-same system that lies to us and wants to enslave us. Why would it cost MORE to produce less? And also there is no "man made global warming" - what a crock! When has carbon ever been "bad" for the environment. This is common sense guys! Carbon is part of the life cycle of green things!

  • Wasn't it just 50 years ago that the gov. was telling us that there was going to come SOON a new ice age. Look it up, it's in the public record!

  • That's the dumbest reasoning ever. Water's part of the life cycle too - tell that to New Orleans.

  • chomsky suffers from road-rage, who knew?

  • too true...actually i have not heard him make too many jokes like that...
