Saw Spinal Tap live last weekend in Toronto and they played this song. That's how I heard about this commercial (they told us about it). They said it wasn't them playing the song which was surprising that AmEx hired a band to sound like them when they could have done it themselves! Hahaha
it's not a real song. i mean it is, but it's mocking a certain kind of music. its meant as a joke, but over time they've became classic songs. excepted by the norm. its so strange. but cool at the sametime.
i was watching tv, bored and annoyed at more commercials, and all of a sudden this came out of nowhere. it was pretty confusing...no, they don't seem to get the original joke...
Na, they've just sped it up a bit, which shifts up the pitch of the song about a tone... also shift's the vocal's formant so it sounds like a different singer.
Same thing, I couldn't believe my ears when I heard this spot on the radio. What a waste of Spinal Tap. Which I guess, in itself, is kind of appropriate.

Well if this is a cover, then it is the best cover ever, by far. But still, they should've gone with Spinal Tap

I'm Straining to hear if they left in the line about 'Bad Checks'
Your face is OK
But your purse is too tight (Gimme some money, gimme some money)
I'm looking for pound notes, loose change, bad checks, anything
I particularly enjoyed the chick buying her dog a down jacket. I hope she's doing ok in the downturn.

Did they even realize what this song was from when they did the commercial?

This was when Spinal Tap sold out. It was inevitable, all great rock groups do eventually.

So so sad that they sold out their Squatney roots.

Who are these lame posers who are playing this uncredited Tuffnel/St. Hubins song?

I just find it amusing that a credit card company is using a song called 'gimme some money' without any sense or irony.
