  • Cover? You know, there are two different recordings of this song by Spinal Tap

  • we are truly through the alice in wonderland looking glass... and it took Madison Avenue and Spinal Tap to show us the way...

  • Saw Spinal Tap live last weekend in Toronto and they played this song. That's how I heard about this commercial (they told us about it). They said it wasn't them playing the song which was surprising that AmEx hired a band to sound like them when they could have done it themselves! Hahaha

  • Well if this is a cover, then it is the best cover ever, by far. But still, they should've gone with Spinal Tap

  • holy shit i remember this commercial!

  • I'm Straining to hear if they left in the line about 'Bad Checks'

    Your face is OK

But your purse is too tight (Gimme some money, gimme some money)

I'm looking for pound notes, loose change, bad checks, anything

I particularly enjoyed the chick buying her dog a down jacket. I hope she's doing ok in the downturn.

  • Did they even realize what this song was from when they did the commercial?

  • it's not a real song. i mean it is, but it's mocking a certain kind of music. its meant as a joke, but over time they've became classic songs. excepted by the norm. its so strange. but cool at the sametime.

  • I meant accepted. excuse me

  • getting money back is the point of the credit card.

  • i <# thamesmen aka the originals aka the new originals

  • This was when Spinal Tap sold out. It was inevitable, all great rock groups do eventually.

  • So so sad that they sold out their Squatney roots.

  • Who are these lame posers who are playing this uncredited Tuffnel/St. Hubins song?

  • Greatest comment on youtube ever.

  • Guest and McKean are obviously laughing about the fact that someone used this!

  • its spinal tap. 60's tap :P

  • that's me singing. nice to meet you.

  • I just find it amusing that a credit card company is using a song called 'gimme some money' without any sense or irony.

  • I hope the band got paid for this...

  • i was watching tv, bored and annoyed at more commercials, and all of a sudden this came out of nowhere. it was pretty confusing...no, they don't seem to get the original joke...

  • freakin awesome! i never thought i'd hear a tap song in a amex ad...maybe that's the effect they were going for?

  • That's deffinately not Spinal Tap. I know its their song, but that's not David St. Hubbin's voice

  • Elphaba528,

Check the other You Tube clip of the song (search on "spinal tap" and "gimme some money"

  • I know its a Spinal Tap song. I just don't think it sounds like them singing

  • Na, they've just sped it up a bit, which shifts up the pitch of the song about a tone... also shift's the vocal's formant so it sounds like a different singer.

  • Dang. Even the _fake_ sixties bands are selling out!

  • Same thing, I couldn't believe my ears when I heard this spot on the radio. What a waste of Spinal Tap. Which I guess, in itself, is kind of appropriate.

  • Ok, at least I wasn't hallucinating when I saw it the other day. I mean, maybe I was hallucinating but not about hearing this song.

  • I .. what were they thinking? Is this awesome or merely lame?

  • Or as David calls it: "GSM"

  • Effing Awesome!

I'm glad I'm not the only one who caught it. Thanks for putting it up here, man.

  • Gimme Some Credit!

  • Gimme some irony!

  • Haha, I saw this video the other day and laughed my ass off.

  • Seriously man, I was cracking up...I couldn't believe they used this song!!!
