Yep good stuff, my Yak is 16' and has a Skeg and Rudder so sailing across the wind is do-able with the large PA Sail, Sailing Upwind with an additional mast would be even better. I find that too much wind just blows you sideways, mild breeze is best..
@Skymaxy I have a "tossed" leeboard that goes on the downwind side. I'm experimenting now with a Hobie sail that's more "mainsailish." Only had it out the once in light airs - look for my "maiden voyage" video. I'm curious to see how much to windward it will let me go in stronger winds.
Looks good :-) I went for a original sailboat setup with two sails just infront of the cockpit. And made a 25 kg keel wich is detachable for ordinary padling. No bank in crosswind, just relaxing and chill :-))
Awesome setup. So was the sail positioned so your "boom" was inline with the length of your boat. I know V-sails are designed only for downwind conditions but was the sail in the rear just there as an airplane rudder? A picture of the setup would definitely help out a lot of paddlers who want to use their Vsails upwind.
The upper "boom of the V-sail was more or less in line with the boat, where the stay on a jib would be on a real sailboat. The lower boom was off to one side so the sail was more or less a jib. The rear deck sail acts pretty much as a main sail would on a real sail boat. For pictures, including a proper jib, see my other video "Sea Kayak Sailing: My Saga So Far".
Sounds good, pls keep me informed. Monsoon here ATM so no Sailing for the last 5 weeks ;(
