Kardinal is a Canadian, born in Toronto, Canada. Since Toronto has so many Jamaicans, he felt comfortable embracing his Jamaican roots, so he often sounds like a dancehall-reggae artist even though he's a rapper.
right im jamaican and i was born in the usa but im jamaican if dat makes sence the fact is this tune is reggae and estelle which i know im person is half jamaican so der u go dis tune is reggae
cause its a jamaican tune if you would be asian and there would be a song with asian music youd be like :iam asian i love this tune know what iam sayin?
its not a jamican tune its a hip hop production with a jamican influence. and its for all nations on this earth. theres many styles of hip hop and its for everybody. bless up 1 blood my melanated sistah.
kardinal offishal was born in jamaica and he grew up in canada, i think, but either way his parents r jamaican, so yea hes basically 100% jamaican, or close enough
well he is from Canada but ppl will still ask "no what is your background?" Reason being, ppl are nvr satiffied with a black Canadian, American, or Brit; saying thei from the country from birth. They will always have to say my parents r Jamaican. I am of Jamaican decent but Canadian born and I can nvr simply sau "I'm Canadian"
she is very beatiful, and I respect that she is a darker skin tone. As well that her hair is short. Big ups to Estelle, and i did not know she was black, because her voice is diffferent and unique.
She DEFINITELY kept is original and classy on this joint. The first time I heard it I fell in LOVE! Makes me want to dance! lol go ESTELLE and fuck all the haters. They just mad cause you makin dat paper girl. So magnificent, you truly are!
WTF u talkin about. It doesn´t matter what she looks like outside. It´s the inner beauty that counts and through her music, voice, and the the way she appears and talk I know she is a very, very beautiful woman. When u beautifulinsude u beautiful inside. And to all the ignorant people who haven´t learned that yet I feel really sorry, cause they are missing the opportunity of knowing the best people u could ever know
you kno de funny thing i can only imagine wat some of u guys look like, coming on here having de nerve to call a beautiful young woman as Estelle ugly.... you need to appreciate real beauty i guess youll need long hair and light skin to call her beautiful.some ah yoll real ignorant..oh by de way the entire album is banging..Peace
therefore from what illplayguitar4u was saying, if people were sharing the same riddims then you cannot fault me on saying that there is a similarity between preivous riddims and the riddims of today.
my point is the way in which they had done this so-called version is rubblish - plain and simple.
i see alot of people on here claim to know alot about reggae, actually if anyone on this page thinks they know about reggae please stop by my page, im sure itll give you more than you can handle as of original reggae youve never heard.
Nothing is new under the sun, that's how the expression goes I think. Besides,if I remember correctly, there are elements from that Rihanna joint that are appropriated from elsewhere (viz.,boogiedown productions). Trends in dancehall reggae, which obviously have inspired the making of this song, tend not to be concerned with the reuse of elements of songs.what is more important is taking something that's been done and flipping it in you own way,i.e.,adding your own dopeness to the creative dialogue.
No hostility young sista, I respect your opinion. At the end of the day, you are entitled to your right to express what you feel about the song. if you ent feelin it, you ent feelin it. Simple as that. I just wanted to expand on your observation. Bless
Personally, I don't think they were trying to re-create Rihanna's tune. Plus, Kardinal is on the track which makes it that much better. Big up Toronto!
The way I look at it, it doesn't make any sense to get caught up in this song sounds like this other song, etc, etc. It's a slippery slope. Every song, every creation, every thing on this earth bares some sort of resemblance to something else. For me, I look at that as an absurd criteria for evaluating music. Personally, I think people ought to just cool out and appreciate the girls sweet voice over those warm reggae synth sounds and tuff snares.
actually in reggae inthe old original dancehall days in the early 80s it became a big thing to use adlibs and such that were made popular by other artists. they even share the same riddims because at the time reggae first stated there wasnt too many bands prolly bout 4-5. and everyone was singas or deejays or singjays, but only had access to the music played by the limited bands. its a very common and popular thing in reggae music to use tunes and melodies that people know from other sources.
I so hope Estelle brings this out as a single. I think it could be bigger than 'No Substitute Love' which is probably going to be the third single (as stated by Estelle in an interview with Steve Sutherland).

This sounds Like a rip off from Rhianna's Song - 'If its loving you want' with an addition of a hip hop drum beat.
charlene36 3 years ago
why because there both regea tunes..... idiot
CJ3517 3 years ago
It is obvious that your knowledge of music is very limited. Therefore, i am not even going to stoop to your level with the immature name calling -
obviously for those who make music - like myself can tell when parts of a tune has been copied -
For example, the song 'juicy fruit' - biggie f/ faith evans done a similar version - juicy
people need to do their reserarch before making idiotic comments.

Everyone has a right to freedom of expression and I have expressed what I have to say about this song whether anyone agrees with it or not.
you can try to re-create something, but there is a difference to how good it has been done or not.
