Mr.Nesbitt says there's something there that can't be explained.wqell there is something there, that's for sure.but it can be explained. you do not have the ghosts of civial war soldiers here.you have familier spirits disguising themselves as the ghosts of civil war soldiers.
I'm a Confederate reenactor (44th Georgia) and after the Remembrance Day parade last year, I walked through the Wheatfield alone at night still dressed in uniform. As I was walking through the field in the pitch dark, I heard heavy footsteps running towards me. It sounded like someone wearing heavy boots/brogans was about 10 feet away to my right and continued to trail me for about a minute or so. I can't prove it was a ghost but I know for fact that there was no one there but me.
Love that place, we were just there. My wife woke me up "well tried" ha ha...
She heard "didn't see" a person walking back & forth in our room at the edge of the bed.
Like it was doing something, walking around the room. Then complete silence again...
I never woke up I was dead to the world... every cool though... I've never seen a ghost, though my wife isn't lying. she never said the term ghost, just "something"...
The ppl that died there knew what Gettysburg was about.. it was about the last stand of the sovereign states vrs the ones who went Federal.. look at it now.. a bloated Federal government that controls everything. ppl WANT to think secession can be achieved..like AK and TX threatened to do very recently. So..read what Jefferson Davis said about the reason for the war. The states seceded from the union..but the bankers "bought and paid for Lincoln" Secession is not possible. Civil War proved that.
Im a Confederate Civil War Re-enactor(31st Alabama Vol.Infantry) and I was there for the big 145th Battle, and in the night while on Guard duty,I went into the woods to pee.Well when I was coming out I saw two yankee soldiers walking around.Sounds normal TILL THEY DISAPPEARED!!!!! And later on I heard what sounded like screaming, and you can tell that they were either really dying or really good at sounding like they were.
I believe you. When we were exiting the battle grounds, and there was no reenactment that day, we drove slowly right past 2 men dressed as confederates leaning against a fence. There was no reason for them to be right there, away from everything. It was very odd. When we looked back a couple seconds later they were just...gone.
I remember this being on Travel Channel all the time. Now it's all about Man vs Food or something stupid. Nothing against Man vs Food, but just miss those shows about the paranormal or some kind of mystery.
@zucchini2007 Oh, thanks. Love that show. I still wish they showed this once in a while. It's fun to watch it at night. See if anything creepy happens.
like i said, i just dont think its as haunted as people say it is, doesnt mean theres nothing out there. but its bull when people come here to film "ghosts" and they find something everynight or on their first night. no, doesnt happen like that.
its all fake lived around here my whole life never seen a damn thing in gettysburg, and yes i do believe in the paranormal but i disagree that gettysburg is as haunted as they say it is. I go on the battlefeild very often especially devils den, little round top, and what us locals call the covered bridge, and like i said ive never seen a thing
@abloodillusion Maybe you're just not sensitive to these things. Nothing personal, but just because you personally haven't seen anything doesn't mean there's nothing there. Who knows? Certainly, if a place becomes haunted where there is a lot of violent, painful death, Gettysburg is certainly a prime location for it.
@Xmonica15X That must've freaked ur teacher out lol XD But all laughing aside, I was there twice. Once during the day then a few years aft at night. Both times didn't c anything, just a headache. Maybe it's a psychic thing idk.
I went there twice n didn't c or sense any ghosts. Just a huge migraine that didn't go away til I left.... Which is kinda weird when ya think about it. I haven't had those headaches b4 n after I went there. do u people know anybody that experienced this?
I go there every year,I have since I was 7. It is such an awesome place, the ghosts, aren't that bad, I know people who scream when they see them, why should you scream, they are people, like you and me, just transparent at times. If you respect them, they will respect you. I believe in God, but I think I was a soldier in another live. A confederate to be exact. I think I died there though, I believe that we can come back from the dead in another life. If there is something we didn't accomplish.
do you really live in gettysburg if there is one thing i would like most in life is to see where it all happened i am a bit of an historion on the civil war it stems from an constant occuring dream i had as a young boy that i was a confederate officer and the i was badly wounded and bleeding in a recess or cave or such i used to wake up in dread i grew out of it though
No bodies that could be found was left to rot in Gettysburg, mostly because fields were returned to farming ASAP by locals.Contractors were hired to gather the bodies and bury them in mass graves.
Some bodies may have been left unseen in densely wooded parts, but it wasn't intentional.
The most important thing to remember when seeing a spirit in Gettysburg is that they were people, and they died suddenly and miserably. The best thing you can do is acknowledge their sacrifice, and tell them it is over, they can cross.
What i find strange is, why dont you hear much more of haunted battlefields? How about Auschwitz? Allot of people died a horrible death, it should be riddled with paranormal activity!
Ghosts are people who have passed before their time and have unfinished business that they are trying to attend to but don't realize they've been dead for hundreds of years. Simply tell the spirit 'It's time for you to move on now, your mortal time is over and it's time for you to go to your rest.' Worked for me and believe me I'm the MOST haunted person in my family!
Ghosts are people too. They're just humans who have been exposed to ungodly amounts of death and haven't had the good fortune to move on. So keep your bigotry at the door, people. This is THREE DOG AWOOO
@ajarmetta i have tons a pics of gettysburg. and every pic has some sort of spirit in it. i took a pic of the hotel in gettysburg and got a ghost cat setting in the window. it didn't bother me one bit. ghost don't really scare me. and i respect them.
What a bunch of crap. I've walked from Seminary Ridge up to the Emmitsburg Road in the moonlight through Spangler's Farm and I didn't see no stinkin' ghosts, I did see a bunch of weirdos dressed up like Confederate soldiers in town though, may be they were the ghosts!!
@raidereddie You can't expect to see ghosts every time you go somewhere. Seeing them are very rare. And you can't say there are no ghosts just because you didn't see any. I've never seen China, but somehow, I know it's there:)

@queensrgt1986 Gettysburg is a beautiful town and the battlefield is just amazing...i went there once when i was little and i just can't stop going back
Yes, Gettysburg is haunted. I live here. I can honestly say, this is one town that makes their living off the dead. Very sad. They can't let the dead rest because there is always a "dollar" to be had. Yet the town always says it's broke. That's even sadder.Look at all the beautiful trees the Park Service cut off the battlefield in the name of restoring it to it's original appearance in 1863. All the deer the Park Service slaughtered in the name of restoring the battlefield to 1863. Even sadder.
I have been to Gettysburg, at lest twice in my live, and I have learned that those, who ignore the past, will repeat it. Because the ghosts of both armies still haunt the town.

I enjoy the ghost stories but if people hadn't talked about them as much people could have a better experience with the ghosts.
You'll have to forgive me if I fail to object to the slaughter of deer. They have proven too adaptable, devour shrubbery and spread Lyme disease. I tend to give Bambi short shrift. Did the Park Service even cut down the so-called "witness trees" that were there when the battle happened?
I always thought you people had a strange relationship with your ghosts. I loved to imagine you guys having townhall meetings with your spectres trying to drum up more tourists.
i used to live like 5 minutes away from gettysburg when i was like 3 years old. i used to see 2 dead soldiers every day for about a few months. it wasnt scary at all
It's amazing to think that in three short days, 56,000 American men died. That's about as many as the total casualty listing for the Vietnam War. And to think... they did it with (by today's standards) simple muskets...
