  • this has nothing to do with video games, holy fuck. you can't add this to a video game, unless you had like a 10000$ computer.

  • i want one of those... terminator style

  • They're using Autodesk Maya!

  • If it can be animated, it can be engineered. If it can be engineered it can be created. If it can be created it can be sold. If it can be sold then it is inevitable.

  • @TheLifePerfect

They'll cut our arms to sell these things to us?

Maybe they'll use real tendon of our cutted arms!

  • make some awesome games with this. >:O

  • Hey hey hey, UBC. I woulda gone there if I wasn't so dumb.

  • I can't help but think we're going to start seeing robots with these overly-complicated limbs modeled after the inefficient construction of the human forearm/hand. Why do these researchers insist on coming up with more accurate models of human motion instead of just perfecting the working robotic models we've had for decades now? Ugh.

  • @SakimoriX

Maybe because our "working robotic models" is based upon biological things, like our hand...

  • @SakimoriX human hands are inefficient? hmm dunno where you get that idea, they've done a pretty good job for hundreds of thousands of years o.0

  • That noise at the end scared me xD

  • Hahaha on that spam comment where it says 'STOP READING THIS' I actually stopped reading it :). That's called reverse psychology gone wrong.

  • @OnlyVideoGuyOnEarth i only read until 'Hahaha on that spam comment where it says 'STOP READING THIS...'

    then I stopped reading it

  • @160090 Now you're feeding me my own poison! Damn you! :)

  • does anyone remember type to learn?

  • @bigperson666 ya no kidding

  • As if FPS games didn't lag enough lol

  • Awesome. Hopefully one day they will be able to implement this as character physics in games; to be able to fully simulate damage to the body in a realistic fashion. For instance being stabbed or shot in certain areas doing more or less damage based on what they actually hit (including nerves, organs, bones, muscles, etc) rather than just generalized areas.

  • Star Wars!! LOL

  • surrogates?

    :D

  • now that is gonna be awesome for future first person games

  • Excellent. But the video is too short and fast!!!

  • Cool. Half Life 3 With that advantage will be awsome :)

  • Now all we need to do is let Nintendo know, and we'll have ourselves another more improved Master Hand! : P

    Use your Imagination!

  • how far are we from having this technology used in the health care system? and is it really possible to recreate human limbs using this technology? I suffer from sever arthritis and have had my left wrist fused. my body is quickly falling apart, and it wont be long before I am confined to a wheel chair. I hope to see this advancement used to help people like me, and not just the gaming community.

  • shouldn't you be more converned about scientists just making a cure for arthritis, that would be better than having a dodgey electronic arm with a 2 year warranty for $100 000

  • Certainly, we should pray for this technology to get to us very soon. If people use these recreations to manufacture games and create movies, then it seems fairly obvious that they would use for a greater good: Helping people.

  • @tutamango Haha right because its human nature to help other people and work for the greater good. NOT. The people with power over this kind of stuff are in power for a reason. They cut deals and work under the table for theyre own benefit. Technology will inevitably fuck mankind over.

  • sims is boring now

  • I hope this Advantage will be included in future Computer Games !

  • it will

  • It already is in some :)

  • I want a prehensile tail.

  • Build me a new finger i have a missing one

  • that arm can masturbate by its own

  • @snylekkie

the sound of one hand fapping! LOL

  • maby they can even virtualy simmulate car crashes and the level of damage with this software so that it cuts money loss for test vehicles and shows exactly where and what the damage is done (to)

  • shweet

  • cool stuff!

  • i can't wait till video game companies have engines for fully rendered internal organs, bone, and muscles for bodies so when you blow someone up, you see them just splatter like a real person would.

  • No, you just want to chug over some e-vag with ghost mode activated.

  • Wow... that was lame...

  • O.O wow that would b soo cool

  • HEh. I've seen better in some animations.

  • hello shake our hands people =)

  • Wow... O_O The arm looks very detailed.

  • :O amazing! all those details! all those details!

  • I saw this shit comen when i watched terminator...They did only find the one arm...I knew it...

  • whoa nice details

  • This could add detail to video games, just imagine real world damage in a video game. It would probably be too graphic though.

  • and thats wat u get out of this, video games, thank god u r not the project manager

  • I was first.

  • i just fell into an uncanny valley

  • As an animator I wonder what program they used to make the animations? Or was this proprietary? Beatiful work!

  • I want two bionic arms so bad.

  • The skin has to behave like skin or else it's still going to look funky as a simulation.

  • Hopefully this will tickle down to Video games as well...

  • Reminds me of the Terminator when he got terminated.

  • I am no more afraid to break my hand again. Hope this tech comes in handy for docs.

  • Yes, now we are armed with the technology to lend others a hand. LOL

  • The thumb up in the end looks weird, or am i weird? :S

  • you're weird

  • He might be weird, but he's right. I said it earlier but got (crooked?)thumbs-down from a bunch of sissies who didn't like my observation.

    XD

  • lol you're right

  • Now detail the human wang..

  • They can use this in Pre rendered animations, but not in games, not jet, as it requires a shit load of time and cpu to realtime produce it, not to mention all the work required ...

I believe some of the latest CGI effects are already using this method.

  • eh next generation consoles will most likely be able to handle it and maybe in a year or two high end pc's will be able to

  • You do realise that pc are far more powerfull than any next-gen console, they have to downgrade Far Cry 2 for the the consoles, beceause they can't run the full fledged pc version.

  • lol i had a friend come over and watch me play crysis the other day and he said to me "dude i didnt know computers graphics were this beautiful , i thought you could only get graphics like that with an xbox or something."

so im assuming there are many other people out there who do not realize the power of the PC.

  • xbox*

  • Exactly, lets speak of ibm's super computer xd, the cpu is such a killer that it can mathetaticly calculate the effect of a nuclear war, its like every single particle is being simulated, now thats badass.

  • of course i do thats why i said in a year or two there wont be another next gen console for maybe 5-8 years

  • I'm glad someone is concerned about reconstructing damaged animators.

  • Very nice

  • This means that CGI Characters will look more like real people and less like the cast of Thunderbirds.

  • I bet that it can't do middle finger :)

  • are you ready for pornimation?

  • Five thumbs up!

    ~Tammi~

  • I gotta give 'em a hand. That was cool.

  • You've gotta hand it to them.

  • Truly armazing.

  • i still think the jelly one is the most retarded

  • My thumb looks a lot like that. Man, you really hurt my feelings!!

  • and your thumb by the sound of it

  • awesome stuff

  • PWNAGE

  • weldone first prize goes to you in the bellend championships

  • lol

  • are you the judge?
