  • I watched the WWDC, download from iTunes, and Snow Leopard is being released in September, and the 3.0 iPhone software coming out in a few weeks! I was happy to see that the Macbook pro is now in a 13 inch version because I am hoping to buy one soon!

  • I have always been a micosoft person and my vista computer has crashed TWICE i had to down grade to xp. If windows 7 is not OUTSTANDING i will SWtICH to APPLE

  • I had the same problem, yet I have windows 7 now, and I've already had to reformat, and my control panel always crashes. I got a new iMac, I'll never look back.

  • Quicktime X (pronounced Quicktime ten)

  • I'm excited for SL, I had my first crash of OS X in 5 years, in Leopard, and three safari crashes, so I'm all for stability. But Leopard is still amazing... SL might also have a new UI code-named "marble". Should be interesting...

  • XP: ok

    vista: GARBAGE

OS X: great AND you can run XP ( I sadly need it because it would be to much for me to switch to a autoCAD like program for a mac it's cheaper)

  • The guy at the macbook store who repaired my Imac had a copy of beta snow...

And he says to me that snow will be ALL ABOUT STABILITY.Nothing less. He sais that (with the same machine that he have) 95% of his application are launching faster. No bug, no freeze, no glitches, no pause, no hesitations. never, ever.

He had the beta for the last 6 months, and he says that it will be really about OpenCL & Grand Central.

I like the name too. It will be a really good update to leopard. Can't wait.

  • Are the early 2008 MacBooks capable of Snow Leopard's 64-bit capabilities? (JW) I have a 2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo with 2 GB of RAM.

  • Yes.

  • Intels Core 2 Duo are 64-Bit processors

  • yes we did get a copy the keynote was great but we werent ment to tell u guys anything

  • could i run snow leopard on the new 2.0ghz MacBook?

  • hell yeah!

  • when is this coming out (Snow Leopard)

  • Yeah, the developers did get a copy of Snow Leopard.

  • I have powerbook g4 will I be able to install leopard and snow leopard

  • u can put leopard, it may be a lil slow, jus max out the ram, but not snow leopard

  • Hmm.. Snow leopard. Its mostly optimized for the Intel Platforms Right? I hope it works for the Intel Duos. I heard a rumor that it is fully integrated with only the new ones, Intel NEHALEM/Core i7

  • DRBUK i'm on a mac right now running leopard, but what you said about Vista not being stable is not true. Vista is the most stable operating system out now. Don't bag Vista because OSX and Windows operating systems are comming more the same, its more personal prefrence over performance.

and btw what is the latest leopard i have 10.5.5, is that the latest?

  • wat up utube!...XD...ON ALL UR VIDEOS!

  • true

    btw

It's more about SPEED! and using VERY bit of power left in your mac

    AND

using the GPU (graphic-card) for multiple purposes

and it's making it REALY easy for developers to write a program that uses EVERYTHING your mac has to offer...

so after a year, your mac is older... but FASTER!

with windows, every new "os" means you need to get a new pc

btw, I have snow leopard and would love to show you guys stuff if you want, just send me an message on my youtube account

  • snow leopard is far from realese dumb shit

  • i dont understand what you mean ?

  • india and pakistan are different countries...

  • u make good videos man!!!! 5/5 to you!

  • windows mobile is dying... (quote. DRBUK) i cant wait for the 11th of july.. iphone hitting italy!! yeah yeah. why screw around with other devices when you have ur imac, iphone and things are working great for you.. i mean why-the-hell-not? stability yeah

  • Could you elaborate please? Are you sure its the programs themselves rather than Leopard?

  • now everyone who gave him a thumbs down, leave him alone, mabye in his exspince was buggy or it crashed, No product is without its errors maybe he just had a bad exsperiance

  • they did get a copy

  • I don't know about Tiger being less buggy. Leopard is great, although, I think it uses a little too much power, and that Snow Leopard will be Leopard fixed to be more efficient and faster in multi-tasking.

  • hey drbuk,

i got my first mac 2 days ago!

    2.4ghz core2 duo

    2gb ram

    160gb hard drive

oh and i got Apple TV and an Iphone.

im now Apple converted and i will NEVER go back!

    windows just annoys me.

    cheers for the great vids

  • hi, why so angry ? lol its just a view. i know u, uve never been that pissed of at me before, let me know about the change. microsoft do make more money then apple, because they just have a bigger share of the computing market. so whether they have a good or a bad product, THERE STILL GONNA MAINTAIN THAT SHARE, so they def gonna make more money. when i say vista is dead, i mean that it will continue to make money because ppl are forced to buy it, but its rubbish, its dead compared to mac os x

  • also what do u mean, THE INDIA IN YOU IS DEAD ? elaborate. im not even indian.lol. i know in india microsoft and bill gates is big, because of the jobs provided by bill gates to ppl in india, and im really happy with what microsoft in india has done. i really dont understand THE INDIAN IN YOU IS DEAD.lol. i mean i respect bill gates for his achievements, in business, but dont mean i need to like his products, and love him just because what he done in india. am i wrong ? let me know, thanks

  • Hey 'aditghal'-I wanna tell u something respecting everything..Is microsoft good only bcoz of they've invested in india?Vista is not dead only bcoz of MS've invested in india? So apple has to invest in india to be a good company?I've to give someone money to tell my products good? Here every word of DRBUK is true.I dont think u've ever even touched any MAC.Why r u so angry?? Everyone has the right to share their views. What is the relation btwn this with..india,friends and getting off from youtube?

  • Vista unstable? Really? Hasn't crashed on me in 6+ months......

  • really ? thats pretty good, how new is your system, liek do you have drivers for everything. do you do anything special to keep it stable ??

  • I've updated all the drivers and BIOS to latest. It's about a year old now, nothing special at all, Vista Business x64 just flies (Intel core 2 Duo 1.83 Ghz, 320GB Seagate, 1.5GB cheap RAM). I do nothing special to keep it stable at all. Most Windows crashes are caused by badly written drivers in my experience both with my own PC's and when working in a PC repair shop. The fact Apple do their own drivers I believe is why OS X is more stable. Also Windows x64 is better than Windows x86 anyday :)

  • yes but is not as fast as xp is it

but loepard is nearly as fast as tiger

  • On my machine Vista x64 is slightly slower than XP, but Vista is a different & redesigned OS than XP and therefore comparison isn't what I care to do - if they were more similar then yes I would compare them

  • Only thing i dont like about mac's is that, you cant play games on it.

  • that way too much of a vague statement, you need to elaborate on that. what exactly do you mean by that ? because of course you can game on it. wat else do u mean, like not the most popualr games, or games that are native to mac ??

  • Man, I want to change to mac too, but. My pc is

    well a pc.I don't have enough to get one.Yeah,

I bought a Windows Vista Ultimate and man.

If you guys have heard of "the blue screen of death"(the computer crashs.)I installed vista

and then when I tried log on, BOOM! It crashed my brand new computer.I tried and installed it again and again.

    I'm changing to mac.

  • great set of videos mate, i'm just working on my wwdc videos, shame work is stopping me from having much time to sort them :-(

Snow Leopard is a cunning name, as it suggests it's still a leopard, but the snow suggests it's a clean version (ie optimised and stabilised) :-)

  • LIke you say man, Tiger is old now and has a vast amount of development done on it post release - hence it beings so strong.

I really like the name Snow Leopard, like you say it implies a continuation of the development of Leopard 10.5. I will be upgrading for sure.

  • I have 3 laptops a media server and a home pc for games all running vista. enough is a enough too many promises regarding their stability and now after 15 years of being in the pc business im going MAC yes im changing, not only is mac better the mac commuity is a helpfull and happy group of people, funny thing that "happy" i guess thats because they are not like me and having to re-install every 6mths and when u have as many machines as i do im pretty much my own IT guy. TODAY THAT ENDS!!!!

  • I have also given up hope on Windows and fully into mac's operating system because it's solid and very easy to use

  • whats the big difference between leopard and snow leopard? Probally not much! I peronally use vista ultimate x86 plus xp pro editon on boot camp on my 2 macs! I enjoy using both!

  • apple's intentions with snow leopard appear to be to take leopard and tidy it up code wise and seriously optimise it. some of the reports coming through suggest that it will have a theoretical memory limit of 16TB!!

Apple are setting up snow leopard to be a rock solid foundation for the future, it's almost like they are playing chess, positioning their pieces (OS) to wipe the floor with the competition ;-)

  • I think it's only really worth it if I had a Mac Pro with like 4 cores or more. I'm pretty happy with Leopard now. Even if Apple could maybe release 1 new innovation, ex: Spaces, QuickLook, that would maybe convince me to buy the new OS. I really don't know if updating my iMac is really worth it.

  • I cant wait till Apple releases Mac OS X Leopard snow because I heard that javascript is gonna be 53% faster man Safari 4 is gonna be crazy fast!!!

  • please get off Vista...its not that bad. Its gotten better since its release.

  • 3.) Recent reports have shown that Microsoft fixes bugs faster than Apple. Don't believe me? Pick up a PC World Magazine for June. Go on there website.

  • ye i mean i use windows mobile, i like it a lot. i really believed that windows mobile will come back at apple. but i dunno why, after wwdc 08, apple are just too far ahead. can you really see windows mobile 7 be used in the medical field, liek the iphone ?? i may be wrong, i appreciate you comign with arguements we need those in this debate, thanks for commenting.

  • the problem with windows mobile is that with each version it really doesn't bring that much new to the playing field. I have windows mobile 2003 SE on my old Dell Axim pda, and it's a good little mobile OS. but looking at mobile 5, all it did that 2003 didn't was use persistant storage. however MS dress it up, the same basic interface is still in play in mobile 7 (tho i'm going to research it more), but apple's iphone OS leaves windows mobile eating dust

  • so they're going to be coming out with new hardware (macs) with the new OS right? and will the current leopard be able to hold the new OS if so? will it be as solid of an OS?

    thanks.

ps. i love the new name.

  • its Quicktime X. and about 64 bit, they just said its going to be theoretically possible to have up to 16 TERABYTES of Ram!!!!

I really want snow leopard to be at least a Discounted price not full price.

  • i like the idea and the name of Snow Leopard too. it lets you know that its still Leopard, in terms of features, but is more secure and updated. that's basically like a service pack for Windows users right? so Snow Leopard is basically Leopard SP2!? cool. anyways, unlike you, i think it should be a free upgrade. Service Packs are free for Windows, so Snow Leopard aka a Leopard security and stability boost, should be free also.

  • see thats where yoru wrong, APPLE ALWAYS CHARGE FOR THERE BIG UPDATES, and give the small updates free, the small updates are equiv to the windows sp1 and sp2 etc. apple have a diff system to windows in terms of operating systems. windows say they bring u a whole new os when they dont, thats why i say windows WHOLE NEW OS is equiv to apples BIG UPDATES, mac os 11 is the big big big new os,, still out there somewhere.lol.

  • i guess you're right there. but honestly, from an average consumer's point of view, one would find it hard to shed out $129 for a "security update," with little, if any, new features. Especially, when "the average consumer" compares 10.5 to Windows, Leopard already is king of security. So i dont see them selling many copies, unless they do include newer features, or they simply offer it for free.

  • When do you think 10.6 will come out? Do you think the upgrade will be free?

  • for a fact, 10.6 is coming out in about a year, this time in one year. go to apple's site /macosx/snowleopard it says so. it says nothing about the price though

  • yes developer did get an early seed of mac OS 10.6.,,,.bastards

  • Check the torrents, you never know :)

  • do u think that snow leopard will have some multi-touch, maybe CocoTouch?? or will windows 7 beat them to it?

  • This is my first Mac ever, through the first couple of months that I've had it (and I am running Leopard) I've never had a problem with it. It's running a whole lot better is more stable than XP was when I had a Windows PC.

I totally agree with you, Microsoft isn't a bad company, but they dropped the ball on Vista. Knowing Bill Gates, he's bound to come up with something to make up for Vista.

  • I disagree with you that Leopard has problems, i know you've had probems but the general conscensous i think is that leopard is awesome. I love leopard and i've not had any problems. I don't think it warrants a totally new OS but i agree with you leopard OWNS vista lol I lost faith in Microsoft years ago!!

  • Im 50/50 on the stability thing :)

Having not used tiger at home its hard for me to comment, but from the very little experience with panther/tiger i still find leopard to feel a bit fat and unstable. The OS itself never bombs like it would with windows, but i can't remember how many times iTunes, iMovie 06 and 08, OFfice for Mac etc. have crashed xD Oh and dashboard client too :)

I like the name :D Kinda soft though doesn't portray an insanely powerful OS :D Still better than warty warthog xD

  • ive never used tiger but i don't feel that leopard is unstable, although im coming from the most unstable platform there is! (windows) so i suppose im a little bias!! non of those have ever quit for me, either i'm very lucky or im just not pushing my system enough! :P

  • Snow Leopard? :/ What a SHIT name, thats really disapointed me! They could have come up with a better name!!

  • Oh its working xD

Windows Mobile is likely to go the way of iPhone OS, they will sex it up and market it more as a consumer phone OS. But it's still gonna be windows xD

Im mega hyped about snow leopard too! Id love a streamlined, fast and lightweight OS :) My dream OS, OS X but even better!

OpenCL can only be good, open standards FTW! That along with OpenGL and OpenAL its just great!

Good way of thinking about OS X / Windows releases :D

Id willingly pay for 10.6 :)

    Great Video!

  • Last thing lol

One small and very nit picky issue i have with leopard is the fact they took away the sexy transparency! Drop menu's, menu bar etc. were changed in 10.5.2 and now they are barely transparent xD I want my transparency back lol

  • i totally agree with you, i would definetly pay for it, but i don't agree with adrian that leopard is 'unstable'. But i think thats subjective on user experience.

  • I hope that 10.6 is gonna be cheaper than £129, considering it's not gonna have new features and just be more stable... Imo, it should cost less since it's pretty much an upgrade, not a whole new OS like Tiger - Leopard. But I am cheap like that :p

  • dude

dont say anything about microsoft dude vista is different

  • vista sucks. i use to have one.

vista is what caused me to switch to macintosh.

  • u suck ur computer suck vista is fuckin fast if u have the rite hardware

  • This is gonna be an update for Intel Mac users for the most part. Apple is gonna make the Intel binary better. They can't drop PPC support because there are still millions of Mac users that use PowerPC. 10.6 will bring improvements for Macs with multi-processors so it will make the Dual G4, Dual G5 and Quad G5 versions better too. But still PowerPC>Intel. Apple should make this a free update for Leopard users.

  • i bought like 10 stocks for apple

  • drbuk, do you think people that have leopard can get a free upgrade to snow leopard or do they have to buy it all over again. i hope they dont change the look of the leopard dock

  • i dont think bill gates gives 4 shits because he is rich

  • vista cant compare with tiger!

  • I wouldn't say that leopard has always been *error free* That is why I would immediately buy the new snow leopard!

  • snow leopard sounds cool but really who would use 16TB of ram lol i would not even use the 16GB of ram i dont have a mac i have a vista pc and it runs gr8t on 1.5GB of ram lol but i do want a mac tho just cant get one

  • LOL 16TB is the theoretical amount it can handle, there ain't implementing that any time soon xD Were a long way from that xD

  • i know that but still y would u want that lol

  • We wouldn't today but you never know in the future lol

  • true but still bit 2 much really lol

  • "snail leopard", lol

  • Snow Leopard is not just Leopard plus updates. There completely streamlining the OS and adding new core technology to make it faster and more stable. Its called snow Leopard because it will likely look the same as Leopard, and not have any new applications.

Once in a while you do need to take a hacksaw to your OS.

To me its worth the 85 quid, to others it might not be. Like you said Adrian, its all about the stability. And I'm sure they will continue to support and update Leopard for a while.

  • ye i agree completely, i also agree with the idea of leopard support to continue, as leopard life span has been a little shorter then tiger, as far as i remember. and i think leopard and snow leopard will be supported further into the future.

  • why not just call it something like 10.5.6 or something? why a completer new name?

  • because it's changing the core technology of the current leopard OS. I don't think it's something that you can just download and install. It seems like to install it, it's going to delete everything. Or atleast be like insalling a new OS.

  • You need a healthy balance between stability and features. It's no point to have a stable OS when you don't have anything to do on the OS. On the other hand, there's no point in having cool features if you can't use them for an extended period of time because you're OS is crashing. I admit that this view is a bit exaggerated but that's the basic idea. I think Vista is a crap OS with lots of features and Mac OS X a stable OS with lots of cool features that can actually be used.

  • the name is JUST going to comfuse customers, like i have tiger and i dont no how it will turn out, will i have to buy leopard first since its not a full update or will i be able to just buy snow leopard??? i am alrdy comfused w/ just the first announcement

  • well i think u wont, i think ull be ok, and that u only need to get snow leopard

  • I just hope that Snow leopard doesn't cost the standard of $130 for simply bug fixes and the addition of OpenCL.

  • Snow Leopard is going to have support for 16 TERABYTES of Ram. Not Gigabytes, but TERABYTES! Jesus Christ, it is fucking amazing!

  • i doubt that

  • It isn't a rumor. It's a fact. It said so on MacRumors when they talked about the presentation.

  • Nice great video man. I agree that tiger is solid and i totaly agree i think that is the idea behind sow leopard its just evolving what we already have and making it as gd as tiger in the stability area.

In a way this "snow leopard" pushes apple further in-front of Microsoft because instead of crappy service packes apple are homing in on weaker areas and locking them down !!

  • Quoted from Apple:

Another powerful Snow Leopard technology, OpenCL (Open Compute Library), makes it possible for developers to efficiently tap the vast gigaflops of computing power currently locked up in the graphics processing unit (GPU). With GPUs approaching processing speeds of a trillion operations per second, they're capable of considerably more than just drawing pictures. OpenCL takes that power and redirects it for general-purpose computing.

  • Yea Botan, or OpenCL as apple is calling it is inherent to BSD UNIX, UNIX in general and Linux and has been used on multiple platforms from X8s to SPARC to ARM. It is designed to work with hardware acceleration and more.

  • By the way ZFS is coming to Snow Leopard Server!!!!!

  • man finally someone feels sorry for us for having stupid windows vista it crashes all the time on me and whenever i have enough money i'm going to get a macbook

  • The only thing that concerns me is the compatibility issues one might face. I have many pro apps and A LOT more smaller apps. I hope since Snow Leopard would build upon Leopard, that there aren't many (if any) compatibility issues.

  • Snow Leopard is going to be amazing. Jobs even said put the new features on hold for this OS and it is going to be built to run on multi core Intels. Also Apple even said that Snow Leopard is going to have an even lighter foot print then 10.5, not mention if Apple gets CUDA forget it 10.6 is going to be the new standard for OS benchmarks

  • excellent video, i can't agree more with what you said about microsoft operating systems at the end

  • it's a good name cuz it's not a huge update, like yo said
