QRS is a dead business. They haven't added new titles in years, they fired their only arranger, and asking them to do a recording is impossible! They're going out of business!
Check out ARTCRAFT Music Rolls online. They've been in Wiscasset, Maine, for over 50 years, and they still make dynamic music rolls using original cast iron perforators. The arrangements are hand punched and are far superior to computer generated piano rolls as well as most of the music rolls made in the past.
@clariona -- You need to oil your player piano pedals on your You Tube postings. You have disabled comments on your site so I thought I would let you know here. Very distracting.
Also, Artcraft does not have "perforators". They have a Leabarjan home perforator that produces one roll.
Wow. I had no idea QRS is still around. My parents still have the old player piano we had as a kid. One of the rolls I loved as a kid was the Star Wars theme. Our player piano could be switched from 'conventional' to 'western' sound. The western sound was perfect for the "Cantina" section of the Star Wars roll.
Also, did anyone notice that the 'wand boxes' in the first Harry Potter movie look suspiciously like piano roll boxes?
@ehurtley yeah - i noticed that too. Dunno if the producers bought a ton of differently decorated piano roll boxes from QRS then just filled them with wands.
They shut down the piano roll operation in Buffalo in Jan 2009. I had toured the place with my dad in 2007. The Buffalo news said sales had dropped 80% over the previous 15 years. They have a stockpile of rolls, which they still sell. I understand the moved the piano roll machinery to their factory in Seneca, PA. The way ahead for QRS is for their solenoid player system, the latest of which is their PNOmation. Pretty neat stuff...check it out.
You would be surprised at the amount of legacy computer equipment still in use. I've been in a data center that had brand new top of the range servers running next to microcomputers from the mid 80s. It's good that company's keep this equipment going.
Your high end desktop at work could be running off a 25 year old server system/mainframe or fetching the databases from it.
The audio is even quieter than other HIM video's. Make sure to re-adjust your volume so you don't blast your speakers!

@grosshaslach At least they still operate in Pennsylvania.
Hell, I'll have to order some rolls myself even if I have no pianola to play them with!
