This is the most mesmerising rendition of this song I've ever heard. Caballe is truly supreme here, love her legato and pianissimo which is her forte. Except that she makes the aria sound more Romantic than Baroque.

Caballé a très longtemps eu ce morceau au programme de ses récitals. On pourra dire, sans doute à raison, que les tyle n'en est pas très authentique, surtout depuis certains intégristes baroqueux... Masi si on veut bien écouter la voix, l'émotion de cet air de tristesse, on comprendra pourquoi, à chaque fois- et je l'ai entendu plusieurs fois en salle- c'était l'émotion à l'état pur- et souvent l'émotion n'a d'autre école, d'autre étiquette qu'elle-même!

@opera75frfr vous avez absolument raison.Si auparavant régnait une pensée unique de la musique autour du Romantisme,on a désormais affaire à l' autre terrorisme: celui d'une pseudo pensée baroque,qui interdit de fait aux chanteurs lyriques d'aborder des oeuvres anciennes. Je fais pourtant moi-même partie de ce mouvement baroque;mais jamais je n'enlèverai de mon imaginaire l'art de géants comme Caballé,qui forcent le respect par leur maîtrise totale et la sincérité de leur engagement théâtral.

Again it is not "Barok" is is "baroque"(in english,barocco in Italian)

Comparing is not useless,on the contrary if you compare the two singers there is no way that bartoli can achieve that perfection.

Bartoli is averylucky singer that is great when making records,on the stage the voice is so small that you can barely hear her

First,everything is "Bel Canto"which means beautiful singing in Italian.

econd is "Baroque"and bartoli is not an specialist in that she is just one more.

She is not a mezzo,she sings as one but her voice is quite clear and small to song as a mezzo.

To compare Caballe is an insult to both music and Caballe.

In a world of music where mediocrities like fleming,bartoli,georgiou and,worst of them all,nebrevtko "reign"it is conforting to hear how an aria should be sung.

Well, even if I admit that to me Montserrat Caballé has more touching voice I would not be incline of underrate any major soprano as Fleming or Georgiou, I rather say I prefer Caballé which I actually do, It a matter of manners.

Both those "sopranos'are the product of powerful agents(Fleming)and going to bed with the right people at the right time(Georgiou)

I dont think you have read my reaplay to you. I personally think Caballé is superior to almost all sopranos in history, depending on the rope to be sung of course. I have not compared any soprano versis nobody. Only sad that in order to make a constractive opinion we first have to have some manners even if we dont like other way of building a career up. I find unfair and insulting your words.
