i think ace and peter messed it up for themselfs they could of had this. why quit touring when your making money. sault ste marie is a town of 15,000 people. 10,000 were at this show. at $100 a ticket for reserved seats $75 for general, kiss played for $640,000 who knows how much gene and paul got of that. people lined up in advance for 3 days to buy tickets. i only waited in line for one day and still got 7th row. ace did a show a year later he sold 1,200 and $22 a piece.
I have been a Kiss fan since 1975 and I would have loved to see this.Kiss was my first concert and we took our son to see the "Farewell Tour" so his first was also with the original members. They are truly one of the great rock bands. I would love to seem them again soon even though Ace & Peter are gone. I saw them with Eric (God rest his soul) and Bruce, and also with Eric playing drums and they all kicked major ass! Thanks for posting!
A studio cut from the Alive II LP. It was around this time when cracks began to appear in KISS' seemingly inpentetrable surface. Ace pulled a disappearing act and was replaced by Bob Kulick. Then there were Peter's problems during Dynasty (see Beth, Largo, MD 1979). I guess all bands go through that, though. It was eeriely reminiscent of The Beatles. 1964/1974...1970/1980...see the similarities?
@timtt2 What I'm saying is that The Beatles broke onto the scene in 64 and broke up in 1970. KISS debuted in 1974. Though they have remained in existence, an original member left in 1980, maybe before, because he didn't perform on the Unmasked LP, even though he did appear in the Shandi video.
@mkl62 Ur pretty much spot on. Peter joined the band for the Unmasked rehearsals in January '80. When it was obvious to the boys that peter couldn't perform up to par, they sidelined him, brought in Anton Fig to play, like they did with Dynasty(except Dirty Livin) In May of '80 they asked peter to do some promo videos for Unmasked. That was Shandi. Peter left May 18th, 1980 Officially
@pluckhutma Peter did the Shandi video due to contract obligations. I heard that after the shoot was done, he broke down crying, because he knew that something beautiful was ending.
@mkl62 Yea thats what I read as well. I would cry too if I knew that something I put alot of blood, sweat and tears into was ending. Although it could have been different for Peter. All he had to do was clean up and get his act together and all would have been fine.
@pluckhutma And Ace, too. As for Peter, yes, there is the Beth video. Also, during the Dynasty Tour, he quit drumming in the middle of Move On. Another time, he and Gene almost came to blows. At another, when the spotlight hit him for Beth, he was seen yelling at someone off stage.
@mkl62 Thats why I don't understand when certain fans go off on Gene and Paul for supposedly dissing Ace and Peter....etc. If these fans would pay attention to what Ace and Peter did to themselves and the band, they would know why those two knuckleheads are not in the band anymore. I love Ace and Peter don't misunderstand that, but they were ididots!!!
@pluckhutma I don't know if you have seen it, but there is a post of Shock Me from this past October at their stop in Greenville, SC. The person who posted it isn't allowing comments on it because he knows the vast majority of them will be negative.
@mkl62 I did see it, and originally he did allow posts, but like u said, they were negative. I am not a fan of Kiss touching former members signature songs, But Kiss does own those songs so I guess thats their leg to stand on. I stopped goin to Kiss concerts after 2003. That's the last tour Peter did with them, without Ace however. I don't care for the new incarnation. I got Sonic Boom though. Guess I'm old school. I've seen Kiss live 45 times between '78-'03. Thats enough
@pluckhutma I've seen them 6 times. 5 in Columbia, SC (1979, 1985, 1990, 1992, and 1996) and once in Norfolk, VA (1988). Paul, Tommy, and Eric came to Augusta, GA a few months ago to the local VA Hospital as part of the Wounded Warriors Project. As for former members songs, they don't do Beth anymore. Eric Carr did a version of it on Smashes, Thrashes and Hits, though.
@mkl62 Yea I remember Eric's version and it was pretty good. Eric also did a pretty good version of Black Diamond in their live set in the 80's. I still like the original four the best though. Even though I have to admit that my all time favorite Kiss album goes to Creatures Of The Night. Hands down!!
@pluckhutma KISS was in a down period around that time though. Peter was gone, then there was a constant turnover with the lead guitarist. Ace, Vinnie Vincent, Mark St. John (RIP), then finally, Bruce Kulick. Mark probably would have stayed, but he had Reiter's Syndrome. In other words, as a doctor told him, "You've got arthritis. And you've got it bad." He did 5 Animalyze shows, then left.
@mkl62 I loved Animalize. Too bad about Mark, he was good guy and would have been good in Kiss for the long run. By the time the Animalize tour hit Chicago, Bruce was in. I remember when Thrashes and Hits came out, they were in a down period then. Crazy Nights was a brutal album and the tour sold so poorly, they cancelled half the tour in the U S anyway.
@pluckhutma On the Crazy Nights Tour, they seemed to be lacking energy, while Ted Nugent (opener), was getting the crowd into a frenzy. I think that they alienated a lot of older fans by not playing a lot of 70's material. They brought a lot of the old stuff back for Hot in the Shade and Revenge tours.
@mkl62 Hot In The Shade tour was a great tour. I agree. They did bring back alot of the older stuff. For some reason I remember that show being longer than any other Kiss show I have been to before or since.
@pluckhutma I saw that tour in July 1990 at the Carolina Coliseum in Columbia. Slaughter opened. They toured with KISS that whole tour. Danger Danger also performed. The only bad thing was that they were NOT allowed to shoot pyro that night. I heard that that happened at some of the shows. Someone responded to me that it happened in Little Rock, Arkansas, too.
Chicago has a very strict pyro ordinance as well. We couldn't see the full effects that I saw on some Hot In the Shade videos from other cities. Faster Pussycat along with Slaughter opened up. They weren't bad. Never saw Danger Danger live. Only heard one song from them. I like being scared ? was that it?
@pluckhutma In 1992, Faster Pussycat opened up, along with Trixter. Danger Danger's most famous song is Bang Bang (Shot Me Down). Trixter went everywhere with them in 1992.
@mkl62 Yea I remember Trixter opening up for the Revenge tour. I was not impressed at all. I will say that Revenge and Hot In The Shade tours were my favorite non-makeup tours for sure. For the makeup years? That goes to the January 15th, 1978 show at Chicago Stadium. The boys were in their prime. Although alot of the problems for the band were right around the corner, they still performed flawlessly. Can't say that about the '79 show.
@pluckhutma They were already having problems even then. There were 5 original songs on Side 4 of Alive II. During the sessions, Ace pulled a disappearing act and was replaced by Bob Kulick, Bruce's brother. Ace usually ends his concerts with Rocket Ride. I did see him in July 1987 at The Boathouse in Norfolk, VA.
@mkl62 I forgot about that. U are right!! I guess problems were already erupting during Destroyer too. Didn't Dick Wagner and Rick Derringer play some solos on Flaming Youth and Sweet Pain? Maybe there was never any real harmony with the original 4?? lol
@pluckhutma Not that I know of. They may have come in as extras. I have read that Love Gun was the last LP that the original four played on. Also, on Love Gun, they used a piano. Christine Sixteen and Tomorrow & Tonight.
@mkl62 Christine Sixteen was one of my favorite songs in the early days. I never really cared for Tomorrow & Tonight. Love Gun as a whole...was probably my favorite record of theirs until Creatures Of The Night came out.
I've been watching and listening to KISS for years and this is my favorite of all times. Someone have KISS release a decent sound track of this.... It Rocks!!!
but with all bitchin aside we got to see a damm good show, with only 10,000 people, when is the last time they played a crowd that small. sault ste. maries population is only 15,000.so for people that were born and raised in this town its a big thing since the next closest place that gets big acts is 5-6 hours away.
Ace is the best guitarist kiss has had, not only in popularity, but his style and the way he bent the notes, superb. this song & rocket ride should have been standard songs live but kiss for once didn't listen.
The funny thing is Kiss is rated #1 live band right now by Hit Parader, whether or not that is the magazine to turn to for that kind of information. Whether Eric Singer is in the band or Tommy, I don't agree with the makeup, shit come up with there own ideas instead of using that makeup. The ones who don't agree with the band now, weren't kiss fans to begin with, so comment me tell me how much I'm wrong and I'm just gonna say fuck you. Kiss ARMY the true members respect Kiss now.
Tommy and Eric can play circles around Ace and Peter, nowadays. But they were the real shit. But i like Eric's and Tommy's playing very much. KISS played with make-up only better until 1977. After that, this line-up is the best. Except for Eric Carr, cause he was superb.
KISS is still the Best band in the fuckin WORLD !!! dude they´re the hottest band in the world !!! 4 Ever an i´m going to a show of them in munich !!!
wheres the Conviction in Pauls Singing,A little weak on the vocals.-In my opinion...Psycho Circus tour they finally Had all wheels in motion & running like a Fine tuned Machine...Then Out with peter/Ace & it goes downhill from there.
I do not know what to say about KISS are just becoming a Vegas show act well folks lets look at the facts they do not have tour anymore they have done it all , in terms of Eric and Tommy I use to have an issue but Eric is a better drummer and Tommy is alright but I would of rather had Bruce but who knows the answer but Tommy is alright
Glad to have seen this. I wish KISS would play this in concert more often. I've heard Love Gun so many times. Would be nice to see and hear some of those other songs, like this.
The KISS-bashers are nuts. Gene and Paul still put on great shows year after year. You know why? Because they're not quitters. I'd wager that 99.9 percent of the people who say they should have quit years ago HAVE NEVER DONE ANYTHING NOTEWORTHY IN THEIR LIVES, and probably never will. Let there be KISS coffee, KISS coffins, KISS perfume, and anyone who whines about it is jealous because they know they couldn't accomplish anything like that if they tried.
i dont min tommy and eirc, they have been a part of the kiss family in many ways, but i would like them to play without the make up, not only because of the "ace & peter respect" thing, but also because after they left revival days should be over now
it's sad but true, kiss the greatest rock and roll band of this earth must end. Right now its just a joke. Paul and gene still sound good but they must think in the legacy of the band and don't throw it away just for money. It's for me very sad seein' my heroes comes to this. Maybe kiss could do a final tour with all of his members and close with dignity and honor all they greatest years of glory.
Spot on! Despite what Gene says bout 'you can't have enough money' they have more than enough to live on forever! PLEASE stop using the name of the greatest rock n roll band ever just to make more cash. Honour the memory and legacy. And Gene, just 'cos you can license the name to sell stuff doesn't mean you SHOULD. It's gone too far. Rubber ducks!?! All you're doing is taking advantage of the fans loyalty. Paul, do more solo stuff, solo tours and come to England next time!!!!!! KISS is dead. :(
I agree, KISS has really become a parody of itself. The merchandising has gotten so out of hand that it is beyond ridiculous. It kills me too because I really love this band. Having Tommy and Eric wear the makeup is not only an insult to Ace and Peter, but to them as well. Here's a question: DO we really want any new material from the band after the Psycho Circus debacle? Ace and Peter barely played on the album, and I'd bet that Gene had someone else playing bass on most of the songs.
I understand your point, but at least if they recorded someting I could stomach this line-up more. Give it a life of its OWN. After almost 10years of no new stuff we all know it ain't gonna happen. KISS as a recording group is over. They are living on past glory and, unfortunatly, trampling all over the memory by selling the name to any piece of crap Gene can stick the logo on. KISS are now like the last person at a party who doesn't know when to leave, because its OVER! :(
They really don't sound very good on this. Paul screws up the lyrics ala Gene. This is one of my all-time fave Kiss songs and it's a shame they didn't break this one out on the Reunion Tour w/ Ace & Peter. Okay, I know Bob Kulick played on the record, but still.
If you knew anything about KISStory you'd know that Bob Kulick was brought in during Kiss Alive II's studio sessions to play the solos on All-American Man, Rockin' in the USA, and Larger Than Life because Ace never showed up to play on them. This was Bob Kulick's first of many "ghost" guitar appearances on Kiss albums. Tommy Thayer plays lead for Kiss now using Ace's makeup. Do you homework and don't question someone who's been listening to the band for nearly 30 years.
Bob Kulick was a ghost guitarist who played on the KISS Alive II studio side of the album. He played on All American Man and Larger Than Life tracks. Many believe that Ace played on the entire album, but in fact he did not.
KISS Rocks!! Anything they play sounds good. And give them a break they havent toured in a couple years. They still sound as good as they ever have. And any TRUE KISS FAN would appreciate anything they threw out our way!!! And KISS looks good with Tommy, Ace, or Bruce. Oh and about the songs that you didnt want to hear, those are the classics, the ones that eveyone wants to hear!!!
This line up is a joke and an insult to KISS fans. They might aswell have kept the '92 line up together, just stuck the make up on Eric S. and Bruce K., and not bothered with the reunion.
why do u think is an insult ??... just because Peter and Ace are not in the band ??... that's a shame... i love this line up... i don't care what people say
Because what have Eric S. and Tommy got to do with make-up era KISS? The only reason the make-up is still on is because it draws in the crowds. KISS is now little more than a money making machine for Gene. Keep going if they want just drop the make-up and give us some new material. I love this band but it's become a parody of itself. Pains me to say it, but that's the TRUTH.
Looks like they mailed it in... Why does this not feel like Kiss?... Eric Also didn't play the snare fills like Alive 2... oh well... please bring Ace back.. My favorite band looks dreadful without him. P.S. no more Firehouse, Lick it Up or Calling Dr. Love please... thanks for posting
Very good. I didn't notice any mistakes (performance wise). Paul could've done better, he appeared to be out of breath. Both Eric and Tommy did the song justice.
can some one tell me why tommy eric dont have there own make up

The KISS-bashers are nuts. Gene and Paul still put on great shows year after year. You know why? Because they're not quitters. I'd wager that 99.9 percent of the people who say they should have quit years ago HAVE NEVER DONE ANYTHING NOTEWORTHY IN THEIR LIVES, and probably never will. Let there be KISS coffee, KISS coffins, KISS perfume, and anyone who whines about it is jealous because they know they couldn't accomplish anything like that if they tried.

You CANT HAVE A band based on two members
and the make-up is not as important as Original members
TheDareDevil7 4 years ago
STOP WITH THE MERCHANDISE so what and kiss got critized for the coffins Coffehouse most people dont like coffee especially true rockstars

Dare Devil, I think Your opinion sux !
kissunmasked1980 4 years ago
i dont min tommy and eirc, they have been a part of the kiss family in many ways, but i would like them to play without the make up, not only because of the "ace & peter respect" thing, but also because after they left revival days should be over now

it's sad but true, kiss the greatest rock and roll band of this earth must end. Right now its just a joke. Paul and gene still sound good but they must think in the legacy of the band and don't throw it away just for money. It's for me very sad seein' my heroes comes to this. Maybe kiss could do a final tour with all of his members and close with dignity and honor all they greatest years of glory.
ninosimon 4 years ago

how come gene doesnt play bass on most songs?
shonj80 4 years ago
I agree, KISS has really become a parody of itself. The merchandising has gotten so out of hand that it is beyond ridiculous. It kills me too because I really love this band. Having Tommy and Eric wear the makeup is not only an insult to Ace and Peter, but to them as well. Here's a question: DO we really want any new material from the band after the Psycho Circus debacle? Ace and Peter barely played on the album, and I'd bet that Gene had someone else playing bass on most of the songs.
cjcalv1974 4 years ago

Okay, I know Bob Kulick played on the record, but still.
cjcalv1974 4 years ago
Bob Kulick, there was never a Bob Kulick in the band....
kissarmy2007 4 years ago
If you knew anything about KISStory you'd know that Bob Kulick was brought in during Kiss Alive II's studio sessions to play the solos on All-American Man, Rockin' in the USA, and Larger Than Life because Ace never showed up to play on them. This was Bob Kulick's first of many "ghost" guitar appearances on Kiss albums. Tommy Thayer plays lead for Kiss now using Ace's makeup. Do you homework and don't question someone who's been listening to the band for nearly 30 years.
cjcalv1974 4 years ago

You can't be serious????????????????
sylverspice 4 years ago
This line up is a joke and an insult to KISS fans. They might aswell have kept the '92 line up together, just stuck the make up on Eric S. and Bruce K., and not bothered with the reunion.
StrippingFleshFromBo 4 years ago
why do u think is an insult ??... just because Peter and Ace are not in the band ??... that's a shame... i love this line up... i don't care what people say
kikzurass 4 years ago
Because what have Eric S. and Tommy got to do with make-up era KISS? The only reason the make-up is still on is because it draws in the crowds. KISS is now little more than a money making machine for Gene. Keep going if they want just drop the make-up and give us some new material. I love this band but it's become a parody of itself. Pains me to say it, but that's the TRUTH.
StrippingFleshFromBo 4 years ago
Enjoy the 1 or 2 shows they play per year cause even they know a full blown tour would lose some major money.
warptek 4 years ago
Looks like they mailed it in... Why does this not feel like Kiss?... Eric Also didn't play the snare fills like Alive 2... oh well... please bring Ace back.. My favorite band looks dreadful without him. P.S. no more Firehouse, Lick it Up or Calling Dr. Love please... thanks for posting

Very good. I didn't notice any mistakes (performance wise). Paul could've done better, he appeared to be out of breath. Both Eric and Tommy did the song justice.
