@NigDub actually, you and MrXMGS are both right. alan had the idea of speeding up the song and making it more "dancey." so he and flood sat in the studio for a couple of days coming up with everything while getting occasional feedback from the others. once almost completed, they asked martin to add the guitar riff. only then were flood, alan, and dave satisfied with it. martin took a little convincing b/c the song title now seemed antithetical to the new sped up version.
