You guys hating on Sailor Moon about how she is so girly n clingy. Anyone who ever read the manga or watch the anime would know that Serenity being the Princess of the Silver Millennium was never really meant to be a Sailor Soldier. She was the heart of the nation and that was why she was more of a pacifist in her actions than the other scouts. The other princesses were her guards hence their fighting power and why they could only destroy things while she was only meant to love and heal.
I like all of the scouts, but sailor moon reminds me of that girly clingy chick, i can't say she's dumber than me though, but I believe that although Minako was leader of the scouts, Rei was the strongest willed, which brought her farther along in the end, I also have to say when i comes to singing, Rei is more talented than Minako. Sailor Yenus and sailor moon are pretty much the same. the other scouts are one of a kind, Yuichiro was a better guy heart wise than prince Endymion too
Maybe the whole discussion of whether the manga/anime was aimed for teens or kids is a bit skew. Like mfbbs said, the Japanese original contained a lot of elements that would have rendered it a show for teens or older in the US, but it could still be aimed for kids in Japan. It depends on what you think the target audience would be capable of handling.
ex: The SweDub kept the deaths but Zoysite got a sexchange. The heck?
For all those who think that in Japan this anime was intended for teens, check on youtube for Japanese Sailormoon commercials.....There is no one over the age of 10 years old playing with, eating, writing with (etc etc) Sailor Moon merchandise in these commercials...
(though, when I saw the SweDub as a child, I wept every time these episodes came on the rerun - the emotional impact was a bit overwhelming in comparison to other kids shows in the 90s)

When sailor moon first arrived in America people didn't know how to market it, so they watered it down by a lot and marketed it to the American children... I only know this because I worked for DIC back in the mid 90's when SM first came to America, the company who ran the American version.
Oh my! In all honesty the English voices annoyed me. To high pitched, but the Japanese ones are more pleaseing to the ear. And they go slow enough to read. So it's all good! AND YES SHE SHOULD HAVE KISS HIM!
It's a little upsetting to watch the entire English dubbed version, only to go back and see so much has been left out. The DVD's should offer an option to watch the aired version on TV or the original Japanese version.
I belive this is the second death of sailor mars. During the episod of the moon kingdom we do see that they are heavly hurt, if not killed by queen metallia, however I think that is up to interipate for each and one of ous.
This death always, ALWAYS makes me cry. The deaths of the other senshi are sad, yes, but Usagi's genuine horror at the death of Rei always upset me more than the deaths of the others. I turn 20 in a few months and this STILL chokes me up. I miss this show so much! :c

The real sailor moon series itself was always for a 16+ audience. I'm 14 and watching this series in Japanese because I originally saw some of the episodes in English because I was younger. Though, I abandoned the english dub because it is just a little kiddy show and not the mature and deep show that was desired. I hope that the redub of this is a dub that big SM fans would want. The original thing itself. No changes what so ever.

In the real Japanese version of sailor moon, there is tons of death, nudity, swearing, sexual and homosexual events. I remember some romances were lesbian in nature, and I know that espicially in later seasons they had lots of nudity (first season was limited to the mild nudity of transformation and that wasn't even edited out by DIC). And there was NO sexual content (no depictions of intercourse, etc).
What really stood out was violence, showing even death at the end of the first season.
@mfbbs I agree with @DPAce456, I'm Japanese and I actually have read "Nakayoshi", the manga magazine that SM was published in, and the target age is ca. 7-12 (elementary school age). The anime was for younger kids (like me... I was watching it in kindergarden!) and anime-SM goodies came as extras for mags such as "Tanoshii Youchien", a magazine for kids inkindergarden. If you want to see anime actually intended for teen audiences, try "Urusei Yatsura" and see the difference.

She fought the hardest to protect Usagi as well. Despite their fights, I think her and Usagi had the strongest connection. IT really brings tears to see Usagi hopelessly standing there watching in horror. It must be horrible losing a dear friend like Rei.
@xSailorCocoax I always felt the strongest connection to Usagi, I found her to be most like myself, and whenever something like this would happen to her, Id get angry and sad, and I would cry for her and her friends...Usagi is so sweet and childish, but if you think about it, she has seen the most death in the whole series, shes had to watch her friends die time and time again just to save her. I feel her pain. Rei was a really awesome friend to her. Almost like a big sister.

Oh yeah, they changed it. In DiC's 'infinite wisodom', they thought that seeing their heroes die would be too traumatic for children. So they dubbed and re-cut the two-episode finale down to one episode and had the four Senshi captured.
When I saw this for the first time (roughly 6 years old??) it changed my whole perspective of... well... It turned me into the one I... well, maybe not ^^; But I've spent a great deal of time on trying to find these episodes XP
Mars is number one, she has the best tactics, and she uses those cool spiritual scrolls (in and outside of costume)shes so sexy, has the best taste in men, and fashion, especially those red stiletto patent leather pumps she sports!!! this scene is sad b/c mars has an integrity the other scouts lack. she isn't boy crazy, flakey, or obsessive, she thinks of others in the face of her own death, and she doesn't let a mortal wound slow her roll.
Agreed. It was the strongest death, followed by jupiter, and when I found out she had died like this.... man, I wanted to hear the version done properly so badly.
Out of the four death in that episode, this one is my favorite. It's still sad that she dies, and sure, none of the others gave up without a fight. But the way she's presented as dead with that one remaining, and the way she suddenly grabs her and says she's not done yet, and then, with the last of her strength, completely incinerates her. That is a powerful death scene.
@KoyasuNoBara I agree, this scene has that little something extra to it. But I have to say I think Jupiter's death was the most intense scene because no one watching this show ever thought any of the heroes would ever be killed. It was a huge shock that this could even happen, and Sailor Moon reacted to it as strongly as anyone watching the show did.
It really couldn't be helped, but by the time Mars' scene came, you sort of knew it was coming. Took just a tiny bit away from it, for me anyway.

They needed to show the whole show more respect. But it must be remembered it was dubbed in the mid 90's before companies learned what fans wanted and the goal was to use the original footage to make a show suitable for all ages, which DiC succeeded at doing.
Strange enough in all the other countries Sailor Moon aired (besides North America) Parents saw nothing wrong with the deaths in Sailor Moon so I guess DIC was just trusting their instinct on what happen in Japan. **source wikipedia**
DIC usually did cut off parts & stuff but I believe the reason so much was cut off in these 2 episodes (now 1) because of all the negative review parents gave on how the soilders died and how the company got many angry phone calls from parents. Yes Sailor Moon the manga was intented for middle schoolers & so on but little kids still watched the actual show.

what was she supposed to do? all her best friends died infront of her eyes and she was dazed and shocked from it all. Plus she had to save her strength to fight queen beryll and they all came back to life anyways so you shouldnt blame her. she got her revenge and saved them

Oh yeah, they changed it. In DiC's 'infinite wisodom', they thought that seeing their heroes die would be too traumatic for children. So they dubbed and re-cut the two-episode finale down to one episode and had the four Senshi captured.

Mars is number one, she has the best tactics, and she uses those cool spiritual scrolls (in and outside of costume)shes so sexy, has the best taste in men, and fashion, especially those red stiletto patent leather pumps she sports!!! And I mean seriously fire is like the most deadly/painful weapon ever. Venus tries to kill ppl with "love", I mean come on!

this scene is sad b/c mars has an integrity the other scouts lack. she isn't boy crazy, flakey, or obsessive, she thinks of others in the face of her own death, and she doesn't let a mortal wound slow her roll.

Agreed. It was the strongest death, followed by jupiter, and when I found out she had died like this.... man, I wanted to hear the version done properly so badly.

Out of the four death in that episode, this one is my favorite. It's still sad that she dies, and sure, none of the others gave up without a fight. But the way she's presented as dead with that one remaining, and the way she suddenly grabs her and says she's not done yet, and then, with the last of her strength, completely incinerates her. That is a powerful death scene.

@KoyasuNoBara I agree, this scene has that little something extra to it. But I have to say I think Jupiter's death was the most intense scene because no one watching this show ever thought any of the heroes would ever be killed. It was a huge shock that this could even happen, and Sailor Moon reacted to it as strongly as anyone watching the show did.
It really couldn't be helped, but by the time Mars' scene came, you sort of knew it was coming. Took just a tiny bit away from it, for me anyway.

They needed to show the whole show more respect. But it must be remembered it was dubbed in the mid 90's before companies learned what fans wanted and the goal was to use the original footage to make a show suitable for all ages, which DiC succeeded at doing.

Strange enough in all the other countries Sailor Moon aired (besides North America) Parents saw nothing wrong with the deaths in Sailor Moon so I guess DIC was just trusting their instinct on what happen in Japan. **source wikipedia**

DIC usually did cut off parts & stuff but I believe the reason so much was cut off in these 2 episodes (now 1) because of all the negative review parents gave on how the soilders died and how the company got many angry phone calls from parents. Yes Sailor Moon the manga was intented for middle schoolers & so on but little kids still watched the actual show.
