  • Or Thrawst please explain them to me!

  • I still don't understand the cube rotation like the X, Y, and Z notation. I understand how X' and X work but I don't understand how you rotate the cube using Y and Y' and Z and Z'. Can someone please respond and/or send me a video on how to do it!!!

  • So you could have the algorithm L U L z

  • @MrCubeGuy We solve it for the LULz

  • The 2 layer turns also can be notated by a *

  • why don't you just remember "E" as Equator?

  • are you gonna do this again

  • M for Middle, E for Equator, and S for Side.

  • @BluePi1313 S is for standing not side

  • @TheWhiteKid22 oh well that's how i remember it.

  • i thought M slices went the same ways as R's do

  • Something of note is that in WCA terms, there is no notation for slice moves on big cubes, so if you stop the timer and the cube is a slice move away from solved, it's considered a DNF because it's 2 moves( for example U' Uw) away from solved.

  • What about the notation on Cubemania, I looked at the 6x6 and 7x7, and i had never seen them before.

  • hey , Ive been watching ur videos alot lately and they've made me really interested in Rubik's cubes , is there any way u can make like a beginners video? like tell us what all the notations mean and what not?

  • @deadpope66 check out Pogobat's vid if you want to begin. Its the best one on youtube.

  • Nice vid!

  • E for equator

  • M is for Median

  • no. M is for middle.

    E = equator

    S = Standing

  • i thought M was relative to R..?

  • i used to also, but thrawst is correct it is relative to L

  • how does your 4x4 move so well, i watched your mod video for the rubiks 4x4 and did that to mine but mine is all loose now and yours seems so tight a smooth.

  • get an eastsheen, take it apart, tighten or loosen it if you need to (with the center screws), spray all the pieces with silicone, let the silicone dry, and reassemble it. do about 5 solves, and it should turn in a heavenly fashion.

  • I plan on it once I get some spare money. But for right now all I have is my Rubik's brand. Oh well.

  • I recommend the mefferts 4x4, I have had a comparison with both and mefferts is much much better. (Free Shipping too!)

  • you can remember slices easer

    m=midle

    e=eqater

    s=side

  • *m=middle e=equator s=standing

    thats the official acronym for S, but yours works just as well

  • what kind of cube is thattt?? DIY???

  • rubix cube 25th

  • well i think the W's are stupid say u do Uw

    thats basicly D' duh

  • E cause iTz like the equator of the cube

  • harharhar i knew all of that already :P

  • E=Equator

    M=Meridian

    S=Slice

    right?

  • s stands for standing layer

  • how bout e for equator?

  • lol i do that all the time i move it just like that when im bored...now i know what it's called!!!yay!!!!thump thump thump the thump of my rubiks cube

  • E goes with the direction you would write the center bar of the letter E. M goes with the direction the 'V' in the middle of the letter M is pointing. S goes with the direction of the letter S if you drew arrow heads on both tips.

    Basically, learn how to write the letters E, M and S (with your right hand, lefties might write differently).

  • i just think XYZ=RUF like rough

  • i knew all of this...

  • Sure.

  • I'm really curious...what type of cube is that? very informative video...I am really looking forward to these upcomeing episodes!!

  • he had rubik's brand 3x3 and 4x4 then the V-cube 6

    which is 6x6x6

    v-cubes are the only cubes that make 6x6's and 7x7's.

    they also have the 5x5.

  • theres a nother company that makes them

  • This was very helpful.

  • epic fail

  • No, for cubers, this is not a fail. If you think it is, dont watch it.

    Thanks Thrawst, these vids should turn out helpful in the future.

  • Here's a Z perm you probably didn't know: E2 M' E2 M' U M2 U' M2

  • o my! HAHAHA!! this one`s COOL! LOL but its not quick though! LMAO.

  • 0:09 I already knew this :P but this is an excellent video for those who don't know!

  • you're cube is extremely quiet

  • how long has thrawst had hd? Its so much clearer but i always forget to use it

  • 1 slice notation move counts as 2 moves in fewest moves

  • good video i learn something

  • I prefer the Japanese notation for cube rotations, like (r) (u) (f) in which an (r) cube rotation means rotate the cube as you would turn the R face and it's prime, and the same with the other two, albeit I like x,y, and z because of doulble and triple integrals :) Mmm M=middle, E=equatorial, and S=standing. Good video Thrawst, definitely informative for the new cuber or for current cubers that don't know about bigger cube notation

  • interesting, finnaly someone describes the proper way to do x, y, and z turns, i figured it was along those lines, just wasn't sure.

  • Good vid I could never remember rotations

  • i knew all this xD

  • same here

  • i didnt know the 6x6 and 7x7 notatio nso thanks =)

  • noooooooooooo you started saying 'rate comment subscribe'!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • i know I think I'll take it out next time, or say it in a more clever way.

  • Thanks i didn't know the x y and z...I was on a megaminx website...and i didn't understand those notations.

  • thanks a lot this really helped me because i am currenly learning the advanced method for cubing

  • M means middle, E means equator, and S means standing layer

  • Nice, I didn't quite get the 6x6 notation until now...

    You should also do scrambling notation for Mega, notation for pyra, Mega, and sq-1... or I could do them for you =)

  • Comment removed

  • there's no real notation for the mega(minx) and or the pyra(minx)

  • holy crap "S". even he cant get it right

  • its strange because M and E go with the lesser used sides (L and D) but then S goes with F, in short it was an assumption that I should have checked.

  • i made a tutorial on slice notation too and i made that same mistake

  • e for equator m for middle

  • the way that I remember E is for equator since it cuts through the middle.

  • wow... ur cubes turn real fast

    n erm wads wc regulation?

  • What?

  • wad u do mean by wad?

  • this is really confusing O.O

  • you were wrong on the M you actually showed what is M'

  • no, it was right...

  • you are wrong. M corresponds with the left side.

  • i like this idea :D

    thx alot ^^

  • Cool that was really helpful! :D I always get confused with 'x'

  • tip of the week is an AWESOME idea!

    GO THRAWST!

  • I think this is a great idea. Though, I've never followed the "official" notations for multi-layer rotations. For the 3x3 I've usually seen a lowercase letter used for two layers at a time. thanks for doing this! pCe

  • I think somethings wrong with that xyz diagram in the beginning of the video. but i'am not sure do they flip the diagram in some cases ?

  • this helped thnx,MAKE MOR

  • I remember Equater, Middle, Side. Also I really like this idea, can't wait for more!

  • great idea for videos,

    i guess "S" can be remembered by the fact that it goes (S)ideways

  • I really like this idea of tip of the week. I hope you stick with it!

  • me too

  • Wow! Great idea and great video to start it off:) Hope to see great videos every week in this series:) Thanks:)

  • i use rotations!

  • Random Question: How do you add a timer in your videos? I have a video editing software (Sony Vegas 8.0 Pro)such as yourself but don't know where or how to get a timer into my videos. Thanks a lot, 5 STARS and in my favorites -CCV334

  • you have to use track motion

  • Cool, I cemented my understanding of the rotations and learned the slice moves on the 3x3 and 4x4. thanks!

  • i also heard something about R*, L*, F*, etc. as a move on 4x4. thats the way i learned 2 layer turn. is there anything in the WCA rules about this?

    oh and i like the idea of "tip of the week" a lot

  • When you look up an algorithm to scramble (like on CubeMania), what if you see a term (eg. R3) where the 3 is superscript, what does that mean? Does that meas three layer twist, or the third layer twist?

  • Finally! I was wondering what the video would be today. :D

  • e=equator

    m=middle

    s=side

    thats how i do it

  • Technically, it stands for...

    E=Equatorial

    M=Medial

    S=Standing

  • s stands for standing layer

    i dunno why though

  • I knew most, but when E and S came into the equation... i learned something new!

  • lol I bothered you about this a long time ago. But I ended up finding a helpful site. Like the best UK cuber the #1 I dunno what that's about but it helped.

  • nice idea. very cool. 5*

  • I pretty much know all of this, but nice video anyways.

    *Looks at 6x6 cube*

    *Cube look back*

    "Why are you so stiff cube? I hate you" *Turns cube*

    *2U2*

    :@ *Throws cube*

  • hey is that xyz axis diagram picture thingy @ 0:53 from alibre design?

  • Dude good idea I'm gonna look forward to these.

  • thaqnks for the video, im not quite to that point yet. i can solve the 3 x 3 in around 42 seconds well thats my fastest so i dont consider myself advanced but im practicing. thanks thrawst

  • E= Equator

    M= Meridian

    S= Sandwhich

  • awesome!!!

  • good tip of the week idea. very informative

  • wow thnx for the cube rotations ive had a hard time remembering tht

  • THIRD!

  • fail

    i had 3rd

  • kool!

    i love the idea =D

  • first view. yeahh!!!

  • uber fail

  • it said 0 views when i looked so thats good enough for me

  • lol i got first lol i waited on his page for 5 min. after his twitter msg waiting for this vid so i could be first

  • I bet you feel accomplished now, huh?

  • yes i do lol

  • not even a fail, its a uber phail XD

  • first, plz subscrbe
