  • How's the hotel for the Guinea Pigs coming along?

  • I saw that you can eat them too, cool, I was thinking of doing that too. I'll be having rabbit pretty soon.

  • Sounds cool!

  • Thumbs up

  • I was looking into these as well. People in south armerica raise and eat these as a normal food. They are almost a miniature cow in that they both are grazers that love to eat grass. Love the idea, and please show us more.

  • Two Thumbs Up!

  • My daughter raises rats for her pythons. We get some that grow too fast to be consumed by snakes. Maybe I should slaughter one for dinner? They get nearly as big as guinea pigs.

  • Plus in a shtf situation u can get the same results with only grass and water , and when they begin there sexual maturity it only decreases a few months after ther life span which is 6-8 years. The only down side is there long gestation period and there average food conversion which is 2.6-1 of meat to the age of 10 weeks, and that doesn't really matter because of there unexpensive diet.

I seriously recommend u to start breeding them great vid and idea!

  • by grouping 10 pigs , u should have 1 male for every 4-5 males preferably 4.

The best thing is that they grow extremly fast with only fresh grasses , weeds , and kitchen scraps , actually grain based feeds can seriously harm them and even small portions , except for special guinea pig feeds , i lost my first litter because of grain based feed that contained corn.

Soo u can feed them only common grass and weed and get even better weight results.

  • It is actually a great idea , i used to breed them actually and it is pretty cool.

They very prolific , sows are sexually mature at 6 weeks but should be bred at 3 months of age and boar should be bred at 4-5months , there gestation period is throw 68-70days a little long but worth it , there litters are from 1-7 pups , 2 pup litters are common but it varies alot , mostly on a higher number.

They can be kept in "colonies" of almost 30 with no problem , but best breeding results come by....

  • Yes. Yes. Did I say yes yet?

Very interested in the overall experience. You inspired me to build rabbit pens and now you may entice me to eat Cavy meat. Well, maybe. I've learned that if you put enough Teriyaki sauce almost anything is edible.

Waiting until after the wicked heat wave ends to get my breeder rabbits.

  • I have heard they are good, but they are noisy as hell and can and do eat their babies if stressed.

Seems like a lot of work for not a lot of meat. Personally, I would stick to rabbits.

    Good luck though. :)

  • Finally. I've been looking for someone on YouTube that raises guinea pigs for meat. I'm really interested to see how they taste. I think I'd have more problems killing a rabbit to eat rather than a pig but I'd rather eat the rabbit if that makes sense. Maybe it's the whole rodent thing. I'm also interested to see how they handle the cold.

  • I like pork as much as anyone but......

Just kidding, sounds interesting and I will watch to see what happens, but its not something I would be able to do because of the city I live in.

  • i love your channel

  • how many are in a meat pen?

  • I love bizarre foods he said they were very popular in South America I would like to see more on this from you from raising to butcher to cooking.

  • I think you should have guinea pig meat videos, if people don't want to see it, they don't need to watch it. my advice to people who don't want to see dead guinea pigs, ignore the videos that involve killing them. I'd say mark them in a way so everyone knows what the video's about like "graphic, dead guinea pigs", ect.

  • there was a big discution on one of my threads on survivalist boards about eating guinea pigs, but not many people agree that its a good Idea, good luck

  • @teenprepper96 Did they give reasons why not????

  • @JRSKICK1 They can get scurvy, thay dont handle changing/hot temps well, it usually takes several generations to get good offspring, meaning to not die

  • @teenprepper96 Great this is the stuff i need to know... thanks.

  • @JRSKICK1 your welcome, no prob

  • Yes I want to know how it all turns out!

  • Wish you all best with your project

  • @J0Boa keep us posted with everything

  • Look forward to updates on this project it would be interesting if you could at a later date give some sort of an idea of what it eventually cost to produce them

  • It sounds like the guinea pigs are going to love the maze. I would recommend to put the guinea pigs in another hutch.

  • @giantsfans101 My wife won't let me build no more so i have to add on :-} hehe

  • YES LOL I met a fellow here in nc and he ate them all day long your gonna need 3 or 4 to get full but in a shtf all is fair game well in my eyes let me now how they taste and keep em coming great vids

  • should be interesting
